Colourpop has the mission statement of being the fast fashion of the makeup world & they have stuck to it. When you say you prolly already have it in your collection is spot on- you do! I have backed off of buying Colourpop for a bit. FOMO is real- but thank god they are always pushing out launches.

your statement about fast fashion is just a tiny bit off bc fast fashion brands like shein are known for exploiting their workers and while Colourpop does release a lot of makeup they don't exploit workers. They do sort of make an effort. They are cruelty free, they switched from plastic palettes to cardboard, and they took out the mirrors to be more sustainable. I totally agree with you on backing off buying colourpop, I have as well.

Try wrapping up all but one palette (chosen at random), and open one or two a week to help you feel less overwhelmed and give you a chance to try them all. It will also help you feel like not shopping since you'll still have new palettes to play with every week.

Now, this was interesting under different aspects. When you talk here and there about what you understood of yourself is really educational, not joking here. The anticipation , the big hauls, the overwhelming feelings etc... I hope many young people watch this and learn how to manage expectations, "dilute" their purchases and learn how to be patient in order to enjoy things at their best. I'm 46 but I started really appreciating makeup a little bit more than one year ago, so I went through a first phase of accumulation ("wow new colours! wow there's a sale! wow a brand I didn't know!") like I had to compensate for all the years I spent without buying makeup. Sale after sale, I have now a big palette collection, and of course I can relate to that haul-feeling you explain, in fact this year I'm being much more calm and patient and I know better to buy only what I need or really like. But the mental experience was interesting indeed. And I like this video also because yes, we EU people see Colourpop everywhere on RU-vid but nowhere in online Eu stores, so the FOMO is real. I bought only once from them and paid a lot for shipping, customs and taxes, so never again, but I'm happy that you confirms that I'm not missing out. I'm also in the process of realizing that the few good brands we have here (Glamshop being the first, but also Lethal, Glossgods...) can actually fill our need for quality and for multichromes - I still would like to try some USA brands, or Glaminatrix too, but now I know I don't strictly need them (FOMO again).
@leaj3799
@leaj3799 Год назад
Perfect description of the same process I went through. I’m in my fifties and only really got into makeup a few years ago (empty nest maybe but then pandemic filled it again). I used CP as a relatively inexpensive way to figure out the looks I prefer but now I’m willing to spend more but buy less from more indie quality brands because I have better sense of what I’ll actually end up liking and using. For a while I was really buying a lot of CP though and I think that is part of their business model- capturing that new makeup user of whatever age by constantly churning out new products and there is always someone that the products seem new and exciting too even as longer term makeup consumers start getting tired and moving on from the brand.

@rbreit93
@rbreit93 Год назад
@@tiffanymichelle8412 tbh I'm not sure, because the quad I had received was broken and I tried it to salvage the shadows. However, from what I can see thru the acrylic/plastic packaging, the pans do look similarly glued in. They're just shallower and you'd have to use alcohol and a needle/box cutter to help lift the edges of the shadow pans. And it does seem like they're magnetic--my nail polish magnets stick to the plastic packaging so it's worth a try. It just might be more difficult because the 9 pans are a lot smaller

I really do like Colourpop's powder eyeshadows. They cheapen them by releasing so many palettes so often, but I only have one, so it still feels special to me. It's the So Jaded palette with Kathleen Lights. That one really does have unique colors, super cool packaging, and the quality holds up IMO. The shadows don't get muddy when blended together, they don't fade or skip, etc. It's not luxury quality but they work reliably and aren't fussy. I agree 100% on the lip products! I was almost sucked in by all the cool colors, but I'm glad I stopped myself. I tried 2 lippie stix and 1 lux lipstick - none of them did it for me. They smelled bad and felt bad. Living in Europe, the cost of importing from US or Canada is prohibitive. Which erases the one thing Colorpop had going for it (cheap pricing). I even have to carefully consider whether to purchase from Clionadh or Davinah and their products and leagues above Colorpop. I'm delighted brands like Lethal, Oden's Eye and Kaleidos are coming out with spectacular things, as they are easier and cheaper to access here. Regardless, I love my modest makeup collection and carefully consider before adding to it. It also eases the stress of "hauls". Like you, I enjoy have time to play with my one new purchase 🥰

I fit as many of the items in my cart as I can to fit in my set budget then sit on it for a while before checking in. I’ll still get some misses but in the end I put in enough thought that I know I only purchased stuff I really wanted to try.

I spend a lot of money on makeup, but I’m so much happier with my collection now that I no longer purchase from brands like Colourpop. I don’t buy anything just because it’s cute. I focus on mid range to luxury and the really great drugstore formulas that rival them. I’m going to be real and say that every dollar I’ve ever spent on Colourpop has been a waste. The products I tried were awful and they all went rancid scarily fast. At the time I tried them everyone was raving over the brand so I just kept buying to try and understand the hype. Well over $100 later I’ve sworn the brand off and never looked back. Every single thing I purchased ended up being thrown away within a year.

I often buy things when I’m in a “mood” to buy - if I think about it, typically it’s because I’m feeling bored with life. Some things end up genuinely giving me joy for as long as I have them / use them. Other things, the joy quickly wears off.

I used to place monthly (or more) orders on ColourPop, but I slowed it down dramatically this year. They release so much that it's easy to feel tempted or experience FOMO. What I did this year was create a wishlist, which I went through frequently and would add/remove as I did more research on the products (Amanda/Makeup Just For Fun makes GREAT review/swatch comparison videos). By the time they had their major Memorial Day sale, I was 100% certain about everything I wanted -- and I got it at a discount! I ended up being really happy with my purchase; every product felt intentional and more special as a result. There's definitely an appeal to making a huge haul because *that* feels like such a "treat yo self" moment. But actually buying stuff you know will add something to your collection/life is where it really feels like you've won. Glad you found some gems even if it was rough digging through the mud for them. ❤

I felt this.. and I appreciate how candid and genuine you always are.. you are good vibes and I am new-ish here but have been loving going through all your content. These are such good chats to have, and I think almost everyone who is in this make up world goes through something relatable to this at some point, it is like inevitable because at the time it is so exciting and difficult to see the downside. CP used to have me browsing and adding to cart all the time. Now thankfully my FOMO about ColourPop has gone away for the most part (Beauty Bay probably is more likely to get me at this point with their 20-pan palettes because I missed that Wilderness palette and I’m still sad about it lol ).. but I barely use the ones I have. Even the super shocks I just need better storage for them, they are tucked away so I don’t use them, I wish it was a formula that would survive being depotted so I could store it in a flat palette. I don’t tend to impulse buy per se but right before the pandemic stuff started, I lost an immediate relative who had been sick and developed a bit of an unfortunate shopping habit, sometimes it feels like it is worse than it ever was, but I also only got back into make up again after like a 12 year hiatus in like May/June of 2022.. so I get extra FOMO being new and having an art background (because *plot twist* almost all of it is beautiful and it is designed to be that way 😂) and then for days/weeks, sometimes even way longer than that I will go to the website and add things to my cart and then remove them, I make lists and obsess about it until I eventually buy it, like I KNOW I am going to buy it so idk why I do that so it is weird. My other thing is, I do unfortunately feel some guilt about spending money, but I also feel like.. I work a stressful, sometimes thankless job. These things genuinely bring me so much joy and that matters. I shouldn’t feel bad about spending my money, nor allowing those purchases to take up space in my life. Anyway, that was super long-winded and none of that really matters. I wholeheartedly agree about the lip products at CP.. I have tried over and over again to enjoy them but I don’t, even those lip oils they are okay/relatively comfortable but I hate the smell. I do genuinely enjoy the BFF mascara, I have the blue one (brown/amber eye color) so I can’t speak for the black/other color shades, but it stays put all day and applies like a dream. I don’t think I use anything from them regularly though. I feel drawn towards their base products sometimes and of course, the brush sets and stuff like that. I really wish they’d make more fun colored super shock highlighters, it is such a missed opportunity for them to not get some super bold stuff out there!

My biggest takeaway from my experience was to really think about not just the quality a review talks about but whether that reviewer creates looks I could see wearing on my eyes. For example, I’ve learned to be very particular about blue eyeshadows as in general they don’t flatter me unless paired with browns or other neutrals. So I’ll watch a review of a palette but if there is too big a percentage of blue shadows, I know that I can appreciate the colors in the pan but I wouldn’t make the purchase because it’s more likely I wouldn’t enjoy the looks on my eyes.

I hadn’t ordered from CP in ages… picked up 7 of the Zodiac quads during the clearance and recently picked up the three Xtra Celestial palettes. Cheaper than drugstore and better quality & creativity. I’m delighted with everything I purchased, especially with it all being half off and more. The Xtra Celestial palettes are right up my alley; I’m tired of bright colors and wanted something nice and ‘fluffy’ looking haha and I love that they included some new formulas in the palettes. And the duo chromes in the zodiac palettes are just stunning. Now that I have all of these to play with I probably won’t be buying again for the rest of the year, but it was well worth it.

Talking about the perfect storm of shopping - I have noticed that I start looking for something to want when I am overtired, over exhausted, and overwhelmed. Like this past week, where I not only had to learn a part in the operetta I have been in the chorus for in about half an hour, but had to go on in performance with only 2 rehearsals. The glamorous life of an understudy/swing meant I was so stressed I broke my replacement only no buy.

Hi Lauren, I hope you are being kind to yourself with all of this. You've been going through a lot recently and I can totally relate purchasing makeup to make me feel better. I appreciate this video because it reminds me not to get too caught up in FOMO on makeup, esp. if it will only stress you out once you actually have the items. Are you able to return anything? Honestly might be worth it if you can. (Just keep what you actually like the formula on) Sending you love!💗

Bare Necessities is one of my favorite/most used palettes of all time! I use it all of the time for weddings/special events/everyday. It has a nice mix of cool/warm tones and although it’s a little bigger, it’s so convenient to just have to bring one palette with me. I have a ton of palettes but that one still gets used.

This has been happening to me lately!! Just in the past 2 months I spent what u said u spent! And I do feel so overwhelmed!! And now I’m afraid I won’t go through it all before it goes bad!!!!! I don’t know what came over me!! I was almost thinking of using eyeshadows for art , crafting, in case I don’t use them all on my eyes! Never again will I go crazy like this!! This is the first time I’ve gone nuts!!! I was always on the search for a green eyeshadow pallette that was like the Revlon 12 hour stay eyeshadow palette - 4 piece quad called spring moss!! It was my all time favorite!! It had incredible pay off- and never wore off or creased! Gorgeous colors- buttery, inexpensive, and great mattes and shimmers!!!!! Revlon changed and cheapened their eyeshadows ever since all those went discontinued, and I should have just stuck with buying the 9 pan pallette the child and the green super shocks and gold But I went nuts!!!!!!! Ugghhhhh

I've ordered from Colourpop a few times, but it's only really worth paying shipping to Australia if I'm buying a few things. I haven't placed an order since the last Raw Beauty Kristi At Forest Sight restock, and I probably won't order again for a long time unless there's something I'm desperate to try, but even then I'll be trying so hard to talk myself out of it first.

I've definitely cooled down my purchases from Colourpop. I don't use a lot of lip products to begin with but I really love the Tarte Maracuja juicy lip which I bought with the Busy Gal Brows from the 30% off sale. I've been reaching for my other palettes over my Colourpop lately and they put out so many redundant items. It's great for people who like staple neutrals. I love the super shock highlighters, and flexitarian will forever be my favorite.

I haven’t been buying colourpop for a while now. As an international consumer I make an order of minimum 60 dollars for free shipping and I buy on sale, but colourpop puts the full value of the products on the box and I pay 20% taxes of that sum. Also once I got half my order, they sent the other half again which was nice but I payed taxes on them again! So basically I am paying extra and waiting one month for mediocre products that can come broken. Meanwhile I have Clionadh glam shop Natasha Denona Pat McGrath etc Colourpop can be great for other people just not for me

My personal approach to my CP buys; that is after I had experience using them, is once I stumble upon a palette or product that works nearly every time I buy duplicates and store them in cool dark cabinet. I still have one of my absolutely favorite 12 pan eyeshadow palettes that hadn’t been touched! Anyway there is a lot of waste that we end up throwing away.

I love Colourpop. They have a looser pan so do kick up. I use that to add more colour. I bought their Classified Mystery box and it was tons of stuff. It is overwhelming. I found myself with 3 eyepalettes and 2 eyeshadow in cream form. I put the stuff in an acrylic organizer that is a good medium size square. I put everything new, including Boxycharm stuff. I simply grab an eye palette and just use it. I have so much Colourpop eyeshadow that are depotted in their own palettes. That saved a ton of space. From like 20, 9 pans in 3 magnetic palettes in large and my own smalls I play with.

I love Colourpop, there is literally something for everyone. I do have a strategy for them, however. You gotta have a strategy for them. Most of the neutral palettes I skip, unless its REALLY calling to me. Like that nagging, you can't stop thinking about it, and then wait for a sale and grab it. Also this rule applies to any of their stuff. Prioritize what you really like from them. Their eyeshadows are always pretty consistent, so you know the eyeshadows are always going to be same good quality. Then it comes down to colors and palettes that speak to you. Compare what you have from them already, mostly the neutrals, and go from there. If you already have most of the colors, skip it. We're looking for the most unique at this point. Btw, I'm using "you" as a general for everyone. Super shocks, love those, so those are always high on the list. Jelly much shadows, also love those. Then eyeliners, some face stuff (bronzers, blushes, highlighters) every once in a while. I have a lot that I like already in my collection, so I don't get a ton of that. Lips, very once in a while. Ranking your Colourpop products really helps. Now for their special collections, if its something that is right up my alley (Nightmare Before XMAS, Hocus Pocus, some of the Disney ones) sign me up! Those I will go after because I'm into those IPs. They kind of become a collector's thing at that point. Bottom line, have a strategy, don't buy it all, get the stuff that will speak to you. Hone in on specific things that are unique to you. Ok, that was a lot, but you can make Coloupop special to you if you have a plan.

I got lured in too! I had been watching the Cancer Quad for months and I wanted another So Fly Lip oil bc I like them. Next thing you know…a couple quads, a few lip glosses and 6 super shocks later. Yep. One thing that is different for me is even though I buy something doesn’t mean I immediately use it. When I get a larger haul I don’t swatch them all immediately and I wait to use them when I am bored or just want to try something new and then…there it is, shiny and new and I paid a lot less for it. So for me, I’d rather buy it on major sale and just introduce it when I am just ready to use it. I am generally patient about most releases and wait until they are half off or so depending on the brand.

The Like a Virgo palette is definitely my favorite of the Zodiac quads (I think I have like 6 or 7 of them), and I also love Head Capricorn in Charge (which shocked me bc I usually don't go for neutrals) and I think they're "actually good," not "good for the price." CP is about to release a rainbow mega palette that is all mattes and though I plan to wait for a sale, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying that one.

I made a single ColourPop order earlier this year, and I have already passed on the palette. In fact, I think the only thing I did keep is the cleanser. I don't need to buy anything from them because I don't like the eyeshadow formula. I'm glad that I got over that temptation!

Girl I think Colourpop got all of us with that sale! I ordered so many of those clear quads, a bunch of SSS, and that shell cheek palette. Also got the apricot lip mask…PSA If anyone is considering the apricot lip mask, don’t. The flavor and fragrance are nauseating. It’s like a sweet chemical scent in the most toxic way.

Stopped buying from colourpop was a good decision. I don't have the problems with choosing an eyeshadow palette that looks like everything else on the website anymore lol. Tbh though, I'm on low buy, so obviously cutting off colourpop was an easy choice. I'm excited for the Clionadh's launch! Can't wait to hear your thoughts about it too!
