This was definitely Fred's favorite dancer and he is totally mesmerized! You can see it in his eyes AND smile. NEVER saw him look at Ginger that way and I have all of the movies they did on VHS...yes all on VHS!
To each their own but I'm not sure if we've seen the same movies. Fred&Ginger are in a place of their own and I don't recall him not looking at Ginger like he deeply adored her. It's okay if people have different tastes but in the 10 movies I have, they seem pretty much over the moon, "I'll be hard to handle" comes to mind as one example. But that's just my experience and I enjoy it. Everybody can enjoy what they prefer and like. 😊
Great dancing pair of forties.Rita Hayworth n Fred Astaire.Fred had many partners for dancing such Ginger Rogers,Jane Powell,Judy Garland n Ann Miller, but Rita was something special!
What’s do great about this number is so much of it is in the ballroom partner dancing style. Of course, the chemistry between the two of them is amazing as is the dancing itself. I love watching Rita and Fred dance together.
I am sorry to say this, but most people know Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire go together like hand and glove, but watching Rita Hayworth, with Fred Astaire, I do believe Rita was more smoother in her dancing that Ginger. Rita had more passion in her steps; she seems to feel the music more. The music became a part of her, it was her. Ginger seems to know the routine, the steps, the turns, but seems to lack the passion, that Rita had. Rita's movements are more sensual, you just want to watch her move, her sways, her turns, what she does with her hands and arms, movement of her hips; priceless!
She was dancing from age five. Performed in casinos with her f as milt to beautiful spanish music. Music and dance go hand in hand like breathing and heart beating in rhythm. We are enchanted mesmerised by her ethereal movements. The streeptease in Gilda and her first hair swinging are still breathtaking for viewers. Art for art's sake! We can only sigh! Gone are those rare species of mankind like Rita and Astaire. Hope they will be dancing in the clouds happily!
Ginger lacked the passion? You've obviously not seen "Lets face the music and dance" the final dance in "Follow the Fleet" or "Never gonna dance" from "Swing Time". Ginger actually "acts" the dances with Fred and doesn't dance with a "fixed smile". ps I love Rita as well.
@@LJK931 I'm what you'd call a 'leg man', and I can appreciate that a woman who can dance in spike heels is really something to behold. Even when I was a teen-ager, I didn't care for the teen girls in frumpy flat shoes.
Only Rita could create the magic that lives on and on.......being able to watch these special videos of her at her best......many thanks for bringing them back for us to see.
@@biancatellington85 Yes. Someone else made this correction. Mercer did write the lyrics and Kerm wrote the music. But Kern did work on other projects with Ira Gershwin.
What a pair. She magnificent and sensual. He the most graceful man who ever existed. The song and terrace provide the magical setting for this romantic pas de deux.
Qué mujer tan espectacularmente guapa!!! Qué pelo, qué ojos, qué boca, qué cuerpo, qué manera de moverse!!! La verdad es que es uno de los grandes mitos del Hollywood dorado por méritos propios.
Absolutely, she was never lovelier. But it's hard to suspend disbelief when she sings the words: I admit I was never one adored by local lads." It quite a stretch. But it's all beautiful and 'tis ignoble to complain. As Astaire himself once said, Rita was his best partner!
What grace and beautiful choreography as these two ‘iconic’ actors dance! Fred Astaire said that Ruta Hayward was his favorite dance partner. I can believe that! Thank you, ‘Acubomaj’, for this fantastic video. I just found it and will watch it frequently! 🥰👍
The interaction between Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire is far above that between him and Ginger Rogers (actually, she detested Astaire and that shows in her eyes...).
For me, the 1st act of that was all about interpreting their definite chemistry, read through the peaks and troughs of their respective eyebrows. You'd have to be blind not to notice how much he was reveling in it. That wasn't acting. Instead, that was the real deal. And for the dancing, it's maybe grudgingly sad to suggest their partnership ended too soon. But if they only made the two movies, some eighty years down the line, we're still pouring over them. What's more, enjoying their combined talents, from start to finish. To the class of 87, when they both bowed out of the mortsl coil, I raise a glass. Maybe even a Margharita, for that would be fitting... wouldn't it?
Fred did not want to be yoked to a lady in the public mind- not after 35 years with Adele and Ginger. He had vowed not to work more than twice in movies with the same woman, so it was a compliment to those who did get two turns: Rita, Cyd and Vera-Ellen. And after he migrated to TV, Barrie Chase was his only regular partner for 10 years.
@@liptak15 I think @Robert Rowan suggested a margarita bc in Mexico it is rumored that the Margarita was named after Rita Hayworth. Margarita is her full first name
You got that right, Buster! She took his hand twice in the first ten seconds. That's when I knew.... And oh, and just by the way, I don't know who wrote the music, but Fred Astaire himself wrote the lyrics. Now try that one on!
."I'm Old Fashioned" is a 1942 song composed by Jerome Kern, with lyrics written by Johnny Mercer en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27m_Old_Fashioned I checked it up because I thought it was Noel Coward's. But no, he just sang it.
EVERYONE KNOWS RITA WAS ALWAYS DUBBED BUT GOD WHAT A BEAUTY SHE WAS...HER BEST WAS "GILDA"....GREAT DANCER...AND OF COURSE FRED WAS THE BEST..NOTHING LIKE THIS TODAY...SAD...JANE POWELL PASSED AWAY LAST MONTH AT 92....THE LAST OF THOSE MGM TALENTS...
THE IMAGE I HAD OF RITA HAYWORTH WAS THE TEALLY SOPHISTICATED WOMAN, SUCH AD IN GILDA, A FILM OF THE FIFTEES. BUT I TEVISED MY IDEA, ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE APPEARS WITH FRED ASTAIRE.
I am not such a clever one about the latest fads I admit I was never one adored by local lads Not that I ever tried to be a saint I’m the type that they classify as quaint I’m old fashioned, I love the moonlight I love the old fashioned things The sound of rain upon a window pane The starry song that April sings This years fancies are passing fancies But sighing sighs, holding hands These my heart understands I’m old fashioned but I don’t mind it That’s how I want to be As long as you agree To stay old fashioned with me. I’m old fashioned but I don’t mind it That’s how I want to be As long as you agree To stay old fashioned with me./ Я не такая уж умная в отношении последних причуд Я признаю, что никогда не был одним из тех, кого обожали местные парни Не то чтобы я когда-либо пытался быть святым Я отношусь к тому типу людей, которых они классифицируют как странных Я старомоден, я люблю лунный свет Я люблю старомодные вещи Стук дождя по оконному стеклу Звездная песня, которую поет Эйприл Фантазии этого года - преходящие фантазии Но вздыхая вздохами, держась за руки Это понимает мое сердце Я старомоден, но я не возражаю против этого Вот каким я хочу быть До тех пор, пока вы согласны Чтобы оставаться со мной старомодным. Я старомоден, но я не возражаю против этого Вот каким я хочу быть До тех пор, пока вы согласны Чтобы оставаться со мной старомодным.
Where can someone research this sort of thing? We all know about Barbara Cook, of course, but how many other singers made careers, or at least a good side hustle, dubbing for stars?
@@singndance Marjorie Lane for her friend, Eleanor Powell. Jo Ann Greer, a band singer with Les Brown who did Rita's later stuff (not this). Marni Nixon for 'most everybody; they finally let her show her face as one of the 'How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?' nuns. The most outrageous instance was Debbie Reynolds having her voice substituted by Betty Noyes on two songs in 'Singin' in the Rain', even though the denouement was about the hypocrisy of Jean Hagen's character passing Debbie's voice off as her own.
A GIRL TOLD ME THAT I WAS EXTREMELY SLIM YESTERDAY, AT 80 KGS. FRED ASTAIRE IS MUCH MUCH SLIMER THAN ME. AND AS DANCE IS SOMETHING MORE FEMININE THAN MASCULINE, MEN DOING THIS SHOUKD BE VERY VERY SLIM, RATHER THAN BEING RAMBOS ...
