it is, his face has finally matched his age. The classic era doctors were all mature -ish - men, but the character pre time war was under 1000 years old. Then we have the post time war PTSDing doctor carrying a mass of guilt, then we have the young hunky docotrs, hiding their pain with a mass of fury within, now, now. This doctor KNOWS Gallifrey is alright, he didnt murder his home, hes almost at peace with himself now. This doctor I believe is over 2000 years old, has lost and found his home

The 11th Doctor always tried to avoid any negative emotion, any no scenario, he wanted all the possibilities to be open and couldn't accept that Clara couldn't be anything more than a friend until he grew old enough to reflect on his actions which led her on, he didn't mean to but he should have known better. Capaldi wanted to show Clara his age, which is not the reason he chose Capaldi's face specifically, but why he chose an old face. He knew he needed to be so different so that she would understand that he is an immortal alien who is everchanging. Smith tried to help her let go along the way due to his compassionate nature, but Capaldi had to be brutally honest.

Andrew Chapman Its basically still 11th's Series 7B console room but they changed the lighting from greenish/blue to orange plus the added bookcases and leather chair. I was happy they redid it from the steampunk console room to this one. It made the TARDIS back into a ship and plus I love the Classic feel. :)

At the time 11 thought he was the last one and would be dying for good soon. I’ve always thought that his more 12ish look in the TARDIS/his outfit from Series 7B was the TARDIS and maybe his subconscious telling him otherwise. That he would have a future as another man.

I just started watching the new Who and that seems to be how they ALL act. Each companion (except Bill because she was lesbian) was in love with the Doctor and he friendzoned them all, YET at the same time he treated them like and wanted attention from them like he was dating them. THen he gets butt hurt when they finally decide to move on romantically. I was so glad when they introduced the River character because honestly the Doctor seriously need her, not just for the girlfriend/wife aspect but also because she was such a strong woman who was more of a equal than a simple follower like his female companions.

BrotherJosephus He messed it up, though. Because of bad character development, as usual. Clara is supposed to be the one who knows The Doctor best in the whole Universe. She's been inside his timeline and met all his incarnations. Knows they're different men who are all the same inside. I didn't get her ambivalence and hesitance towards the New Doctor, and, frankly, thought it was the most careless part of the episode. I understood it with Sarah Jane and Peri Brown and Rose Tyler because they were human and attached to The Doctor and didn't know about regeneration. I don't get it with Clara. She's actually the one person who should never, ever be fazed by the fact that The Doctor's personality has changed so radically. She's the only companion who logically didn't need a call from The Doctor's previous incarnation encouraging her to accept the new one. Or she shouldn't have needed it. Plus, given her character development in the previous series, I don't see any reason why the Eleventh would see her as anything more than a puzzle. Again, I understood his infatuation and love for River and Rose completely because they were fully-fledged, 3-D characters, whereas Clara only became a character in series eight. Before that, she was only a prop ("The Impossible Girl"). So the "I'm not your boyfriend" line is jarring and a sign, again, of careless character writing.

giligara30492 As I said before, Clara seeing all his past incarnations doesn't mean much, because even when she saw all the different faces of the Doctor, and met the War Doctor and the Tenth Doctor, she always had her "Chinny" Doctor behind her. However, when the Twelfth Doctor emerged, she was genuinely shocked. She got hit hard with the fact that from now on, the Eleventh Doctor would not be for her.

giligara30492 What you fail to realize is maybe clara knows something you don't, something not tangible. The doctor got a new set of regenerations, so there may indeed be something fundamentally different. Is there a reason they limit the number of regeneration to a specific number? The fact that claire has been inside the doctors timeline, who better to help the doctor find himself again, then someone who knows as intimately as anyone what that actually means? There may be a deeper purpose to claire staying with the doctor through all this, and the master helping that happen, then we know yet.

HerityInOrder I remember after the finally where smith died, it was stated the next doctor(which is now this doctor) will be a transitional doctor, while he comes to grips with his new set of regenerations. Whether this is still the case or not I don't know, but my advice would be to try not to get too attached. The unlikability written into his character seems to reinforce that. The next season may be his last, but we will see. If it is, they better make it worth it :P

considering the fact that the 11th Doctor was also around when he was 909 in The Impossible Astronaught that'd mean that The Doctor was the 11th for over half of his life up to this point. the 3rd Doctor claimed to be several thousand years old the 7th Doctor was supposedly 953 though in books the 8th Doctor claimed to be 1200 the 10th claimed to be 900 but there was one point where he was mentioned to have 3000 years worth of memories. but there's not really much reason for people to get so worked up about Time Lord ages. 11 himself said that he had actually lost track (just rounding to the nearest hundred on 2 occations, the latter of which he mentioned that he could be a few centuries off) and didn't even remember if he was lying about his age or not. the 13th also stated that she didn't know her age. the 5th Doctor claimed that Time Lords will always lie about their age.

One thing they hammered home with Capaldi (especially in this episode) was that the Doctor's incarnations are partly a matter of internal expression--he regenerates as what he subconsciously wants to be. Matt Smith was a young, sexy Doctor, probably as a result of Time Lord Tennant never getting together with Rose. He wanted to be someone's boyfriend. Capaldi is excellent because he's the Doctor accepting himself as an old man. It's flipping ridiculous to see yourself as the boyfriend of a 20-year-old human when you're over 2000 years old. Capaldi, here, is realizing that he was always just pretending to be young.

I'm still waiting to see what Jodie Whittaker does with the character. Which is a shame because I think she is a decent actress, it's just the stories and writing suck. Hopefully s13 will be a change of pace

@@bruntusrex The 13th doctor (Jodie) has a delightful personality, it's just that she's not as free as all the other doctors. The writing seems to trap her in a certain place for the act. If you watched the runaway vr doctor who episode, you could see how free she was as the role of the doctor. She's able to use her personality and it's amazing. I wish the writers could write her better
