I ordered an ADVENT CALENDAR from 1 vs. 5 star Chocolatier

How crazy they both put perishable foods in a month long advent calendar. I’d leave feedback about that for sure. They’re overpriced but worth it watching you! X

How is this stuff not individually wrapped? A piece of cheesecake just sitting in a drawer? Gross! How is that not in need of refrigeration?

Really not sure how these places expect these items to hold up for the month. I could see maybe a few shelf stable pastries the first few days, but after that I'm thinking candy. No way a cupcake or brownie is going to taste good after 3 weeks on a shelf

Both those advent calendars were completely weird, the whole point is to only open one box per day and all those treats would've been spoiled/stale within a day or two! This year I didn't get an advent calendar for myself, but I got one for my dog and one for my cat! I actually think they enjoy the treats more than I do so, totally worth it!

They both seem way overpriced and if they were both chocolatiers literally all they had to do was take 24 chocolates from their selection. I feel like most sell 24 different types of chocolate. Maybe in both cases the person who works on the patisserie counter was the one who answered the phone/email?

Am I the only one that's disturbed by the fact that none of the cake/pastries are wrapped? Mmmmm Moldy cake! Chocolate/fudge is the only thing that makes sense to last up to 24 days.

That wooden advent calendar is seriously the most beautiful advent calendar I've ever seen. I would probably buy it & I don't even care for advent calendars. Super good to keep over the years and refill!

I've seen cheese advent calendars, wine advent calendars, chocolate advent calendars... I don't think it is fair to hold variety against them. But, those pastries were not going to last a week, let alone 24 days, and that is a huge problem.

The 5 star one looked really pretty and I love it, but I completely agree with all the other comments. Who puts pastry in a advent calendar?! I'd be so angry if I paid that much money, only to have stale and mouldy stuff after a few days.

I'd be complaining to them for spending $75 on an advent Calendar that's supposed to be from a chocolatier and has 80% chocolates on the website.. But in reality you get literally 5% chocolate

First calendar was such a scam. Pastry is the best the first and second day, but after 4 days max,esp if not stored properly, it goes bad really fast

5 star one looks great, but disapointed in items inside, not even wrapped thats gross. If you ask for chocolate then you should get chocolate, not cakes and cookies that will not last, and in no way could it be stored right. And i feel you were right, they look lie cut offs from other orders made in store.

I feel like they put all their $150 into that gorgeous wooden box and not into being creative with their craft. Because both of these suffered the same downside, none of that stuff would have lasted till Christmas. And what if, assuming when you buy it you think it is just chocolate, that you wait till the next year? Chocolate has a long shelf life, you would have a moldy mess on your hands! For the price you paid for both, I would have been disappointed over the lack of critical thinking and lack of creativity. Neither made sweets that spoke to the holiday season. Neither made sweets keeping in mind that the calendar would be a month of tasting. And neither really listened to directions. The only upside to this experience is that beautiful wooden box that lights up. Hell I'm willing to pay the $150 just to have it because that IS stunning. But I honestly feel both people let you down. They gave you pastry plates for a single day party, not chocolate selections for a month long advent calender

The box for the second one is amazing, but both of the sets of treats look like whatever leftovers they had and just cut them up to fit the little boxes. For the price of either of them seemed a little pricey for what you get.

the wooden advent calendar is amazing cos you can reuse that year after year, really get your money's worth that way. just next year, put celebrations chocolate inside each one.

I grew up believing advent calendars were meant to be shared by the whole family. We all took turns and it was those little crappy $1 ones lol 😂 Advent calendars are not done very well in the USA, in my experience.

My anxiety really wanted you to place these in numerical order as you went so we could see them in a nice line. 🤣

As a French girl with Swiss grand father I really feel bad about it. And more because I work as a quality agro manager. So when I see a piece of brownie or a pastry waiting for 24days.... they want to kill someone? I don’t understand how people can be so stupid.

I am willing to bet as an artisan maker that the reason the packaging isn’t the same as the ones you are used to with the first box is because they are most likely cut from cardstock from an SVG file and assembled by the artisan themselves. I’m pretty sure that specific file for that advent is from Etsy. Most small businesses usually don’t order mass produced items, especially boxes, unless you have a budget for outsourcing your customized packaging. 50 customized shipping boxes alone the size of a shoebox can cost upwards of $100+ for some small businesses who don’t have contracts or do not have a need to order in larger quantities. The more you buy the more the discount is, but most don’t sell enough to be able to warrant the purchase or to afford that. If you were a business ordering 1,000 custom boxes, you’d pay a lot less per piece than someone who only needs 100 of them. It’s usually more cost effective for most small artisans to make it themselves. With that said though, I am disappointed to see the first box had very little chocolates in it. Especially when you consider that they claim that is their specialty. For $75 I think you are right to be disappointed. The additions you did receive are nice, but they aren’t what you believed you were ordering. If I sell you a calendar as a soap maker, I’m not sending you 90% wax melts. I don’t personally think that is worth $75, it feels intentionally misleading.

He really has such a beautiful nature. I'm sure the bakeries understood exactly what he meant. When he said he wanted chocolate it was clear enough to understand. First of all those baked goods should have been wrapped and never would have lasted until Christmas without going moldy. As a matter of anything made with eggs could give serious food poisoning after a few days and I think it would be safe to say all baked goods are made with eggs.

Even if you kept it in the fridge, those items wouldn't be any good by the end. :\ That's super disappointing. You would have wasted more than half of that, if you hadn't opened it all in one day. The actual calendar is cute though, I think! My jaw dropped when he opened the 5=star though

First calendar was literally someone trying to get rid of their miniature cakes' stock that without a crap load of preservatives wouldn't last a week. Second calendar was beautiful and that's just it, you pay extra for the "box" and not the contents. In short, both ended up being a rip off when the requested was all chocolate. Not cake, chocolate. If one wished for a cake advent calendar then that's what it would be ordered.

$75 for that? That wouldn't have cost more than $30 for the production.

Tbh unless they're putting some serious preservatives in this stuff, 90% of the items across both calendars would go stale.

1st Advent Calendar Tree was bought from Target clearance. The 2nd is one of the best looking calendars I've seen.

Number 5 looks like a brazilian dessert called brigadeiro. 1 can of condensed milk, 3 tbsp of cocoa powder and 1 tbsp of butter, cooked and covered in sprinkles. It's super easy to make and freaking awesome. You should try it

tbh there are nowadays several kinds of advent kalenders, like the rituals or artstuff, but you paid 'chocolate' experts to make you an advent calendar, it should have been mostly chocolate imo... Loved the idea though! edit: for my bday (end of November) I got two advent calendars: one from Kinder and the other from Clipper Tea (yes, tea and chocolate every day is amazing, loving both so far!

Unless it’s a chocolate advent, they have a variety. Advent calendars just promise a treat, themed calendars are specified.

That advent calendar wouldn't last one day in my house. My binge eating self would have eaten all those pastries and chocolate in one sitting.

The 12 days of Christmas are the 12 days between Christmas Day and Twelfth Night (the night before Epiphany). Technically, a 12 day "advent" calendar would run from 25th December until 5th January.

Ok you should order for ur next bakery VS video and tell them it's for a video and then order the exact same items again from the same 2 bakeries and don't tell them(might have to get it put under another name)and see the difference between the 2 items from the 5 star bakery and the difference between the 2 items from the 1 star bakery..do u get what I am talking about bc it would be cool to see if they would do it better for the video than if it was just a regular order..might be a cool new part to ur bakery episodes🤔

Advent calendars can be anything unless you specifically ask for chocolate, however these pastries would not stay good for longer than 5 days. You can’t charge someone for 24 days of treats and give then 24 treats for 1 day. And I think a fair price for the pastries of the first box is like 1 quid per pastry and then 5 quid for the calendar and some for the man hours but Def not 75

I think just the 5-star calendar by itself without anything in it would be worth 150 $. And you can use it again next year (just put other things inside). It's really beautiful. I actually like the design of the 1-star calendar as well, but it's really not helping if the stuff inside just isn't good and it's really overpriced.

The advent calendar has changed Over the years. You can get wine, beer, candy, chocolate, toys. As long as you get something every day it qualifies.

Diffenately not what I expected. I thought there would be like homemade chocolate Santa's or snowmen more truffles chocolate cover cordials maybe some chocolate cover marshmallows. If you got it from candy maker shop I think it would have been more like that
