I work at a Gamestop, if someone bought a game that didn’t have the original case but later we do have one, I always let them just switch it out. I totally get they would rather have the original case. Gotta help people out

I agree with you BeatEmUps. If I am spending $30+ for a USED game, I want the freaking case. I am old school and collect video games. When I get a game without a case, it makes me feel like the game is stolen (e.g. game not returned from a video rental kiosk machine, game borrowed from a friend and never returned, etc...) . I mean, WHY do video game companies hire graphical artist and spend thousands of dollars to craft game covers if they don't mean anything? They mean something to ME and I want them as part of my game purchase. Otherwise, reduce the price of these games.

So, I work at Gamestop and just wanna point out a couple things (I'm only a couple minutes into the video and mostly responding to things I know people are bitching about in the comments so I apologize if any of it is said in the video) Keep in mind with preowned, people get the luxury of trading in games without cases and it doesn't affect the trade value at all. Because of that, we have generic cases and they don't cost any less to buy. If you're in store, the employees will usually understand if you want the original case and will understand if you decline to buy it if they don't have one. Switch and DS games are the worst, because most people put them in a cartridge case and throw the game cases away. It's absolutely a gamble to buy online, and honestly as an employee I don't recommend it. Retro items ship from the warehouse, which is why they'll usually all come together. Any games/systems/accessories that are sold in store could be either shipped from the warehouse or from a store. Most likely from a store, or a bunch of different stores that happen to have the game you ordered in stock. That's why they all arrive separately (and fast shipping is a joke on things like that, I don't recommend it) As long as they are preowned, you can return them to your local gamestop within 7 days of receiving them. Or you can go into your local gamestop and see if they are willing to give you the original case if they have it (in exchange for the generic one). I personally try to give out original game cases if I can, even in shipments.. but it wouldn't surprise me if other employees ship out generic cases to get rid of them. Your best bet is going into a store. Also, for the people whining about $55 for a preowned game, those are typically new releases and most of the savings comes from being a pro member which makes them $50 for games that were recently released.

My sisters got me Injustice 2 for my birthday and it didn't have a case. I went to gamestop and asked for a case + art cover and they gave me those for free. Even told me I can ask for any and they will most probably have extras. Hope that helps

I've never really had a bad experience with Gamestop until recently. A couple weeks ago I ordered the pre-owned version of Wolfenstein II for Switch and received a case with no game cartridge. I've been trying to contact corporate but have had no success.

I read the title as I Ordered used Nintendo switches from GameStop... this is what they sent me...

Why I STOPPED buying from GameStop ONLINE store: 1. Missing original case and/or other materials 2. NEVER deliver when expected. 3. Cancel orders without explanation OR contacting me. 4. Orders simple do not show up 5. Trying to resolve issue w/ missing games, etc. at a store fails. 6. Poor customer service online/on phone. 7. Damaged items received. 8. Resealing a game and selling as new. 9. Online inventory never matches actual inventory. (i.e. order a used game and days later the order is cancelled due to out-of-stock) It's like the physical and online stores are 2 different companies, so no support from each other, except returning a game with receipt works OK between them. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: my local stores are great! It is the online store that they need to fix or close since it damages the rep of their physical stores.

Anyone: Can I have a used game with an actual cover GameStop: No but we will give you $3 for your Xbox.

So from what I've learnt from watching this video the USA has no consumer laws where by the item has to be described accurately and cannot be a false description, so for example those games without box art have to specifically say they don't have box art otherwise they are not sold as described and so the customer gets a refund or replacement. I guess the UK protects customers more than USA

As an ex GameStop employee I'm not gonna lie yeah that's usually what we sent, games without cases. Never the tray they sent you harvest Moon in those are specific for 3ds and ds games

Just go to a near by GameStop and ask if you can exchange the covers. Explain you're a collector. If they say no, return it. Their online return policy is the same as buying in store. But I've swapped covers before at different locations. They know people prefer the original box art.

If you paid for express shipping and not only did they not send it express but they delayed it you need to call them and demand they refund you for that piece of it.

I don't mind getting a generic GameStop case. I just make my own artwork on the inside. Oftentimes, it makes the spine look a lot better too

at least you got a couple cases. as a vita collector i've gotten shipments with 0 cases :( which made it super surprising when I got a DS game last year with the retail case and manual lol

Cartridge games I feel are notorious for coming without a case if bought used since so many people pop the cartridges into a carrying case and toss the case. I ALWAYS keep my cases but all my game cartridges go into a case for easy access and travel. But Second hand Game shops should have to disclose if the game is in original case or not or if the case is damaged, because many do like the collector aspect of cases and they should be discounted if its not in the original manufacture case. And word of advice to everyone, never pay extra shipping for fast delivery 9/10 its late and 2 day shipping just for example usually means 2 days AFTER the order processes for those who don’t know so express shipping is really a sham.

Thank you Wood for being honest about your feelings on Gamestop, I love it too. If it weren't for places like their's i would have never have been able to buy any of the games my son was interested in especially when he was little. Gamestop is a single disabled mother's DREAM, especially on a stupid low income. People that trip about them clearly have more expendable cash than I have ever been blessed with. Lol Also, copies of covers to games are super easy to replicate via computer, though we always go in used game retail places knowing cases would be scarce and never bothered us so much. My son, thank God, was grateful just to have a game and couldn't have cared less if it was a hand me down of sorts. He is awesome that way.

I just love all the commenters that literally read the title and made a comment without actually watching the vid....he clearly stated that he got the idea from Spawnwave, and that he even asked. Goodness sakes. He also did a spot with Dollar Shave Club...does that make him WulffDen? Wait... Hey Wood, we use Game Stop as well, because we don't have the luxury of supporting anyone local, as we live in small town Midwest. I understand that people have reasons to not like Gamestop, but the truth is that for many of us, that's literally our only storefront option, other than WAL-MART. If they go under, many of us are screwed. They've always done right by me and my family.

I think the "case" or "case-less" indicator on the website would be a great idea. That's how it is when you go to the store anyway, you get to ask if the game comes with a stock case or not. I remember at the EB (and also Funcoland) near my childhood home they even had a "newspaper" that listed all the pre-owned games they had that week, and it would indicate if stock cases were available, or disks/cartridges/generic cases only, and I used to pick it up after school on Monday or Tuesday, ponder over it all week, and then go back and see which ones I wanted were still there on Friday lol. Anyway, would be fantastic to see the case thing emulated online!

I'm from Norway and you are lucky to have GameStop right now. in Norway they shut down all GameStops and I cried, I was really happy with the store and didn't think they had it that bad. I still feel awfull.

As someone who is pedantic about having the display cases as well, I can say that I have had the exact same heartbreaking experience from gamestop/ebgames online lol (even with 'new' games that were being sold as clearance). In-store is not too bad though since you can inspect what you are purchasing.

Here's my theory: The people that return the games keep the cases for their own personal collection when returning to GameStop. I don't believe GameStop themselves do it.

I bought Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey, and Animal crossing used because of a sale they had and all 3 of them came with generic cases. I was so mad and tried to return them to the store and they refused to switch them even though they had them all there.

You could've gotten most of these games on eBay with the case for less than you paid at GameStop. There's multiple complete copies of Ys VIII on there right now for 50 dollars.

I bought about 25-30 switch games pre owned throughout the past few weeks and only 3 or so didnt have the cases. Im very surprised and extremely happy

In Europe we have a shop called that sells all second-handed games and if u buy them online if they dont have units with the case they cancel ur order, i think this is something all should do

As an employee at Gamestop, you can’t blame them for the lack of cases, a lot of people trade in switch games with no cases, the one thing that I don’t like, however, is we throw all preowned 3ds and DS cases, which sucks butt

I can't deal with having any switch games without the case. I've seen people throw them out and I think those people are dumb. Loose games don't even count in my collection.

Every time I see a switch game box I look over at my PSP collection just to make sure a rouge switch game hid on my shelf. (The boxes are very similar sizes)

As someone who was employed by gs you had it spot on we will always send out the no cases if possible we can sell the ones with cases easier and if we lose a case for a new game we’ll use the used cases with the new game (people steal the empty cases from the wall all the time)

As a GameStop Assistant Manager, I think it's cool that you buy your games from us. I love you and your videos! I'd like to comment and hopefully clarify a bit of the packaging. I can tell you why the packages were delayed. I can tell from the packaging of those envelopes that those are packaged at the store level and not just at the warehouse. This happens so that when you order online you are browsing not only the inventory of the warehouse but also every store's inventory as well, and thus have a greater selection. The downside being that you'll have multiple packages and or shipments. Also I definitely recommend checking your local GameStop for extra cover art, we always have extras, and I usually hand them out to customers if they ask, I don't mind. Harvest Moon should not be in a clam shell case, that's against policy. Lol All in all, when I send out online orders I try to send out the best case and cover if I can! I don't understand why anyone would throw out a case for a handheld game. Handheld game cartridges are so damn small. They're far easier to lose than console cartridges, so why wouldn't you always keep it in the case?

I've been told by GameStop employees that sometimes the box is traded-in with the game, but then the GS employee has to toss out the box themselves. This was back in the GBA/DS era, and the main reason why they never had the manuals, but it might still be practiced in some locations.
