Good on this guy for honoring his loan payments under his mom's name and wanting to use the bonus money for what he thinks is right. Hes in debt but hes got a quality that cant be bought.
He's good guy because he's willing pay the parent plus loan debt there are some children that would have stuck their parents with the debt because they don't wanna pay
He can drop and do 50 push ups anytime. He can jog in place. Buy a pair of weights from Wallmart and lift those before and after work. You can always work in pushing your body even if it's for a few minutes a few times a day. :)
Yayy Areaa People been taking care of their health long before paying monthly membership driving to the gym. He can get a mini trampoline and a couple of used weights like I did.
Its not the monthly gym membership Dave was opposing... He wants the man to use time spent exercising every night to go drive an Uber car or deliver pizzas. I personally think its a HORRIBLE idea to give up exercise - which is so important for physical and mental health, and has important long term benefits in terms of health care savings. I consider time and reasonable money spent exercising a GOOD investment.
Whenever you're having a bad day, just sit down, take a deep breath, and think to yourself, you know what.......at least I'm not Justin "the chiropractor" from Colorado.
I have 150,000 in student loan debt and I'm documenting my journey on YT. It's been a challenge but small progress is better than no progress. Glad to see Agnel is facing his problems. Good luck!
Caller: I work a regular job during the week & work Uber on weekends. Dave: what about at night? Caller: what about sleep? Me: this dude ain't working on my teeth.
Oh wait I just realized she said she does have an associate's I thought this said she didn't have one. Honestly, there is more value in associate's then bachelor's. I'm glad he at least makes 66k, some people go to a 4 year just to make half of that or less
Ariana Ledesma some people go to private expensive out of state school (Tuition usually $40000 per year) and probably graduate past 4 years because they failed some classes or changed majors
I was under the impression a dental hygienist requires a 2-year associate’s degree. How did he get $150,000 in student loan debt for a 2-year associate’s/community college?
Pretty sad that seeing a title like this isn’t even surprising anymore. too many people don’t know what theyre doing and end up in 6 figures of debt before they’re even 25
I paid my loans. But I would not let my parents go into debt or me. How much was the original parent plus loan??? One has to appreciate that he is not letting parents footing all of that bill. Honorable.
Ah you tube, the only place that you can listen to a show about the horrors of student loan debt right after you listen to a ad from Walden univ for a worthless PhD in public health degree that will make you one of Dave's future callers in 4-6 years
My $64,000 debt has turned into $109,000. The collection agency wants to settle for $80,000. I'm going to continue making income contingent payments until I can settle & hopefully get that amount lowered. I really wish I knew about Dave Ramsey before I got into this mess & so glad to hear that he's in the high school curriculum nowadays. I was the first in my family to get a degree, so it was important to get one, but there are other options.
This is a good guy. And hope he doesn't stop going to the gym either. That's health, that's important and keeps people going day after day if they're into that lifestyle. Good man, hope he figures it out.
Get a roommate. Rent the BR if there is just one, and crash on sofa. Frees up $5,000 per year and cuts utilities cost down. Or move when lease is up, and rent a room in a group house. Jobs fill your time, plus commute? Good - you'll be able to sleep thru any noise.
Huh, sounds like exactly where me and my girlfriend were 2 years ago. Today were half way done, 75k down 75k to go! Yes, we make more than him, but at the end of the day its a wash because we also invest a good amount. Keep your head high :). It can be tough because we dont really owe the money, its on someone elses name.. but morally its the right thing to do. I guess you could say if me and my girlfriend can make it through this, we can make it through anything.. and its the right thing to do for the entire family (outside of us).
I’m not a rich man, but to me it seems like the difference between rich and poor these days comes down to decisions that you make. Just as I decided to major in computer science but read English literature and liberal studies in a book for my spare time.
He gets $18k each year for loan repayment. You can break that into increments of $1,500 per month for a 12-month year. Also, he earns $66k from work. You can break that down to $5,500 per month for a year. I don't see why he can't then pay $3,000 per month toward the loans. He can pay it all off in under 5 years, not counting interest of course. Still be in his 20s, making probably a higher salary. It's possible young man. Bravo to you, also, for considering the Parent-Plus Loan, so mom won't be stuck. _Might_ consider going back to live with mom, too, but not long. That's not an attractive option, but you'd be saving that $900 a month on rent; and you could just pay that entire $150k debt off in about 3 years.
This is dumb. He works 40 during the week and then ubers on the weekend. He doesn't need another job. Does no good to stop going to the gym and ruin your life by working 24/7. Bad advice this time
@@MoD3RnHD ... What would be needed more than a few weights and calisthenics? If you do the research, you don't need saunas and weight machines. You can get cheap ewuupment that does the same.
Wow. I feel bad because I also owe $150k in student loans as well, but I also have an MSEE degree and make $100k/yr, with room to move up and make way more. I'm on step 2 and plan on throwing everything except the kitchen sink towards that loan.
Keep the gym going. You need your physical strength. Just accept it will take seven years to get out of this mess, and in the meantime, throw every cent at debt that you can. It will eventually get paid off. Can your mama contribute even $100 a month?
Dave Ramsey and team, Thanks for all your help with guidance on getting folks out of debt. However, the information shared in the call is dangerous. For the 18k Indian Health Service student loan repayment, which I belive this caller is referring to, the 18k needs to be paid directly on your student loan and at the end of the year you need proof that 18k was paid to your student loan. Please do your due diligence and correct this information. Loan repayment in the medical field can be tricky! Hope this information helps others.
For the parent plus loan he said ballooned up to $800 a month because there wasn't a minor in the house I sure hope mom is still paying what she paid before the payments ballooned and her son is paying the difference at least. I hope she didn't just dump the balloon payments in his lap. Also I would seriously consider moving back in with mom for a year to knock down as much debt as possible. A year of yout life isn't that extreme.
How is his mother a bad person for encouraging him to spend $150000 in order to make at least $1800000(30 years x $60000)? That is a great investment. He just needs to be disciplined and attack the debt.
InsideOutside UpsideDown currently living in a Prius. I spend 1 dollar and some change for gas to keep the AC on all night. Insurance is cheap/plus stealth. Honestly if you don’t mind living poor for a few years like me this is the way to go. Food I bought a portable stove with propane easy to clean. Also he wouldn’t have to drive that hour and a half every day. It’s a win win in my eyes doing a Prius. Travel trailer is great I agree but it requires a truck to pull plus insurance, gas, and somewhere to rent to park it. But you live much better that’s for sure
Jacob Moore ok, no travel trailer...full blown used RV. Just stay over in walmart parking lot....you can live cheap for sure, just dont drop you outriggers or dump yer charcoal onto the parking lot and youll be fine
@@illegalalien6542 Dave doesnt actually mean eat rice and beans....he has stated just eat at home. Buy groceries from the grocery store. Its much less expensive to eat at home. Don't eat out.
Hi Dave Sr. I want to help with my son's and my family but i can't talk to English i have so many problems Pls help i want do new beness Pls Pls help me I'm in Indiana
I agree you should be able to get the degree for less debt, BUT... if you increased your earning power by 20k/yr and it takes 6 years to break even, and you're doing what you love in that 6 years, then you DID make a good decision. Period. So don't feel bad and for God's sake, Mom, don't you feel bad just because Mr. Ramsey's "math" doesn't fit. I'm a BSEE, and it took me even longer to pay off my loan, but I did so before age 30. No regrets. Shame on you Dave, for criticizing someone regarding their decisions with their kids when you know a tiny fraction of their story. This really ticks me off.
"Doing what you love in that 6 years". I hate when people say stuff like this, liked anyone couldn't think of better things to do other than working. People work to pay bills and hopefully save enough money so one day they don't have to work. Nobody works because "they love to do it". I get it though, might as well lie to yourself when you don't have a choice anyway.
@@jayh40515 ok, I agree with you, but the point is... would you rather be working in a fairly easy air conditioned office job or maybe in a hot garage changing oil? There's a lot more to this than the payback period.
Parents should pay parent plus loan...cuz you know the whole parent part of the loan name. If they aren't willing to pay it then they shouldn't take it out.
You do need the gym, never have I seen an optimally fit person who didn't go to the gym. The key word is optimal. Never give up fitness for debt paying, there are other ways. Show me your rockin body without the gym and I will admit my wrong.
@@shannysalcedo3627 most people don't do it or stay with it for very long, I know, I am in the fitness industry for 10 years now. Plus you will not be in optimal shape, show me a person who is in top shape that only does home workouts.
Dave is absurd. He works 7 days a week and Dave tells him to start working nights too. Don’t listen to him. Take ten years to pay off your loans and quit your weekend job. Enough of this working 80 hours a week and eating rice and beans to pay your debt off in 3 years. Do not take advise from this man.
It's a loan that a parent takes out for their child's college. Legally it's in the parent's name so they're responsible for it, but in this case the caller said he had made an agreement with his mom for him to pay it, so he's honoring that.
