As much as Hank tries to deny it, it's pretty obvious he sees Connor as a real person. He stops Connor from hopping the fence because he's worried he'll be killed, the "well you fucked up, welcome to the club" line was treating him like a person than a machine. People fuck up, it's just how it is. That's why Hank gets upset when Connor behaves like a machine, because he wants to believe Connor is more than that, that he's a genuine person.
I noticed that too! At the start of the game his movement are very rigid, but if you play as Deviant Connor he starts to become more fluid and convincingly human :)
@@profilore He could, but it'd distract from his existing role. I'd say delete Markus, keep Connor and Kara. Maybe replace Markus with a storyline about the worth of life. Maybe a military android getting sentience would be pretty I interesting. A path could be it embracing its capabilities in killing, while another embraces desires to preserve life. Dunno, just spitballing, but Connor's position is pretty solid as is.
@@snkybrki that??? Is an excellent idea. I would have LOVED for Markus to have been a military droid. And Kara should have been the artist, if not Connor.
@@ShatteredLament Probably Connor with the art. Kara was too busy saving Alice (which is an absolutely TERRIBLE plot twist that she's an android) to really have the time. Maybe Connor would paint as he chats with Amanda between missions? It'd show his path towards deviancy, and help give players something to do during those bits. Thanks for the support, though.
1:47 “That shouldn’t have happened. I wasn’t programmed to fail.” Connor breaks my heart😭😭 obviously at this point he still thinks of himself as a machine but it hurts to see him think he’s worthless if he fails
Imo the most heartbreaking moment is when/if you go to the roof at the TV station and find the Jericho android, Simon, I believe, hiding in the closet thing. Then if you manage to get to him despite his shooting, Connor grabs his hand to see Simon's memories and Simon commits suicide. He says "I felt it dying... Like I was dying...". A part of me died as well, seeing him all traumatized 😭 Edit: love the username and the pfp
The subtle facial expressions are done quite well. You can tell he's conflicted and afraid. Connor honestly feels like he's always been deviant but in denial of who he really is.
@@magna1451 yea actually it is but l dont know man l mean after all thpse kratos games, now the last God of War with atreus is kinda strange l still didnt get used to it it was good to be a lone wolf
3:18 aww Hank, he sounds so sincere, and Hank call them a "girl" not an "it". Plus it sounds like he feels bad. Also this is the first time I've heard this dialogue. Gotta say Hank sounds like a sweet kindhearted gentleman. ☺️
Btw in order to get that you need to never die and then die in that chapter. Cause if he dies before that or many other times he says "Still immortal huh Connor? In a way. You know, I kinda was hoping you wouldn't come back. I'm just a Machine replaced by another Machine Lieutenant. Fuck you." Also at that part when he's talking to Connor bout Empathy if you go guns blazing and kill the Deviant it's a little different. And of course if you do neither of those he says he's a machine.
One of my favorite scenes is where Hank and Connor are at the fence and Hank does his whole "Don't go, that's an Order" but if you do go Hank is like "CONNOR GODDAMN IT!" and that's where (at least for me) I could tell Hank is starting to care about Connor.
@@cheetopuff8888 Yeah, I know for one of his deaths (I think it's after the attack on the news casting tower) if Connor dies, Hank goes "Hang on son", and you bet I cried.
@@esmakaplan8554 RIGHT, EXACTLY! so glad the fandom is still alive, i've never played the game myself but I watched jack's series as soon as it came out and just 3 days ago I decided to rewatch it and show my sister too so now we can love connor together :p
hank hated me for 90% of the game and even killed me and almost himself but during the last bit we got to bestie status. my friends hate how much luck i had with this game, no one i could have let die died and alice had a new mommy AND daddy. 🥰 connor became his own guy and i led a peaceful revolt
Lol i got lucky too, i played Markus full violent revolutionary and then pulled it back at the end of the game and everyone survived 🤣 my friend was in disbelief
The almost fear in Connor's voice when he says "That shouldn't have happened. I wasn't programmed to fail." Like he's already having am identity crisis, poor guy. He's still just a prototype, too.
Headcanon: Connor’s program probably allows him to do the puppy dog eyes to make is job easier in some cases, but he’s only ever found it this effective on Hank
"Oh, well, you fucked up, Connor. Welcome to the club." This fucking killed me. I love this fandom so much -- Connor and Hank made this game. Their voice actors are so talented, their chemistry is so unexpectedly incredible given their characters. Edit: I honestly can't believe that I never saw some of these moments, considering how hard I tried to see everything. Just wow. And how great the delivery of every line is, even the ones not many people ever see.
11:05 'white person crossing the street smile' I'M HOWLING. In other news that scene is so SOFT. But I never get to see it because I assume you need to have Hank "warm" and not already at friendship/absolute soulmates level??
Actually, it's the version where you're still friends with Hank after shooting Kamski's android and asking him about Jericho! Because then Connor's departure from the precinct isn't rushed because he already knows where Jericho is :)
The fact that he knows that expression will get him what he wants is what makes it funnier to me. He uses it multiple times and every time Hank gives in lmao.
I only heard the line in this video where Hank says: "I'm with him. Not with him like that. Just have a job to do" Because youtubers are always in a rush in playing videogames so we don't actually get to hear the full dialogue. So thanks for posting this compilation.
i really suggest watching no commentary playthroughs, they really save my ass if i don't want to buy a game (though from what i played of dbh, it was so fucking fun, even if i was on the verge of a heart attack during zlatko's segment). this is the playthrough i watched before i bought the game myself: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U6PGp8TF9Qs.html it's made to flow like a movie. this was apparently the poster's first playthrough, so they make only one avoidable choice (i don't really want to spoil it, but it's really late in the game, where kara and alice are crossing the border). other than that, it's a solid video. they also have three separate videos where it's just the characters' segments (e.g., one video dedicated to just connor's campaign).
5:51 that little hand movement where hank put his hand on connors head like that was what sold me 100% on loving these two. My mom used to do the same thing when i was feeling bad physically or mentally. The placement, the softness, having no logical reason to put it there, everything is perfect (also compliments to the chef for adding extra spice with those subtitles 👌)
Hank: "Why do you always ask for more time when I'm ready to leave?" Connor: _(puppy eyes)_ Hank: "ueh, alright you got two minutes, then I'm outta here" I don't blame him, if Connor looked at me like that I'd let him do whatever he wants. He's kyut. 😂 3:26 Hank 💀💀
im glad that bryan and amelia are keeping the detroit fandom alive. i joined the fandom around august of last year and im so happy that people still post content. (still kinda sad that jesse and valorie werent very active in the detroit fandom)
@@rainedropxx4450 Jesse Williams is a longtime resident of Grey's Anatomy and other shows and media. He might not have the ability to do much for the game anymore.
1:09 He sound so... nice, like he was really worried and it was the most obvious answer. Its weird to see Hank like this, but i feel like he sees Cole childish personality in Connor's way to act--
I've lost myself in AUs a lot lately, it feels good to come back to some canon content and realize their alchemy in the game was not made up by my ship thirsty mind.
I watch ONE hour long video on youtubers falling in love with hank and Connor and all my recommendations are hankcon, amazing. Didn't know ppl were still into this game but I'm glad, it's so fun
I just played DBH with my brother yesterday. I swear he loves to make all the worst decisions that, for him, come logically. For instance, he decides to make Connor a machine just because it seems like Connor wouldn’t become a deviant (even tho the name of the game is literally BECOME human-). He is also very bad at timed events, so Hank often told him « well you fucked up Connor we’re leaving ». Or he would kill two humans as Marcus and then be a pacifist right before he attacks the police. I don’t understand.
Me:im so sick of overused tropes The trope: the grumpy one is soft for only one person aka hank @ connor Me: *tears up* oh my god grumpy one is soft for only him
Judging by Hanks character, I highly doubt he is delusional enough to think this android, based on a human male in his 30′s, would be anything like Cole if the child had lived until current events that would be only 9. A nd the literally only "sign" of them having that was a "son" from Hank while Connor was dying and like... calling another young man "son" is such a white american boomer thing, Captain America used it in Avengers as well and yet I see no one calling the guy he called "son" Cap's adopted son. Old white american men just say that sometimes, it's nothing special. And, of course, this is all assisted by the fact that Connor's max Hank relationship is "friend" yet we know that with Kara, Luther, and Alice, they are capable of seeing people as "Family." Listing Hank as "Family" would have been more appropriate if father/son was the intended interpretation, but instead we see them becoming only "Friends".
@@creamsimulator lovers are also family, friends are family, partners, even soldiers that fight together. Once again: Connor never needed or desired a parental figure. In addition, Connor and Hank were essentially working as colleagues so saying they had a father/son relationship implies a power imbalance that I don't think they actually had nor do I think they should have had. And, of course, this is all assisted by the fact that Connor's max Hank relationship is "friend" yet we know that with Kara, Luther, and Alice, they are capable of seeing people as "Family." @@creamsimulator nope) I think it's worse to interpret them in a way that they obviously aren't just because of homophobia, biases or stereotypes. Clancy Brown said clearly "No" when he got asked on Twitter if Hank sees Connor as his son. I totally see why people would not ship them, if you personally see them as cop buddies or colleagues or friends then that's totally fine y'know? They're friends/partners in the game, after all. They're not father and son though, the game has many of those dynamics (Kara/Alice, Carl/Markus) and the literally only "sign" of them having that was a "son" from Hank while Connor was dying and like... calling another young man "son" is such a white american boomer thing, Captain America used it in Avengers as well and yet I see no one calling the guy he called "son" Cap's adopted son. 10:40 we and hank know at this point that Connor is a deviant but hearing him express himself genuinely, like he said - outside of his programming - is really heartmelting. And the stuttering really is 😭😭
god damn i thought id seen everything on these two, but connor begging for more time with hank being exhausted and the ones at the club??? incredible. thank you for uploading this!!
Hank saying, “Yeah you fucked up Conner,” really meant “Yeah it’s fine, you did something dumb, everyone does.” He was trying to be nice in his own grumpy old man way.
This video has a rare line that I can't catch anywhere else - Eden Club, where Hank idles and there's a dialogue with the other cop (Ben?) and I remember first time watching the game, this moment hit me - because it's the first time Hank talks about Connor to other people while using his name and it sounds just like he sees him as a human. You can feel the personhood behind that name pronunciation and I love those little moments that show you they he starts to care for Connor.
5:39 I managed to prevent Connor from dying on this part but omg seeing Hank react like that is just- Ahhh I love it You can see he actually cares about Connor when this happens.
