Mudmouth and Suction Bomb being described as a classic combo really goes to show how well integrated the themings of Tableturf is. Since you're supposed to throw a bomb in its mouth after all.
it's honestly really impressive how well they translated the feeling of splatoon's strategy into a card game. when i realized that both modes encourage rushing into mid to hold a line against your opponent, or the usage of specials to break through that line... real "ohhh, that's clever" kinda moment
So glad this video was finally able to come out! Thanks for having SirNerbird and I on Gem! We hope this is a great resource for everyone else when getting in to Tableturf Battle! We'd love everyone to join TBS and also try out a tournament! Also, if it wasn't clear from the video PLEASE DO NOT USE BURST BOMB! Any other small card in the game will be better in terms of utility. Burst bomb only works for one highly specific strategy on River Drift that completely blocks off an unaware opponent. We call this the wall. Shoutouts out to Ljovynn. If anyone has any questions about Tableturf I'd be happy to answer! Just leave a comment.
Tableturf was one of the first things I became addicted to after Splatoon 3 came out. Almost more than the actual game itself for a while. Seeing you get involved and allowing me to learn about competitive is an excellent opportunity.
Very awesome that there's big-name promotion of tableturf *with* input from the competitive community, super awesome to see!! Hope more people can access tableturf resources like TBS and grow the scene (also can't believe Hydrus kept this collab hidden from us for so long lmao)
1:01:37 One thing that i think gets passed over a little bit here is just a more basic analysis of the board that informs their defense read: Harmony has ALREADY managed to cordon off a large amount of the top left / mid side, because there are very few 1-wide cards that will fit in there, so she's a lot more secure in her control of (your) left side then she currently is in her control of her right side. That's why a human player would almost always go to shore up that control compared to extending the left side further for less potential impact.
Just joined the server! If you want some more Tableturf tips, I would highly recommend some cryptidcultist videos, that's how I first learned about beginner tableturf strategies
tableturf is so cool i just with there was a way to solo queue online. its such a barrier of entry if you wanna get some quick matches in, even if there are dedicated communities around it
Competitive table turf is underrated and fun. The only problem with it is that the accessibility to cards and packs are limited and luck-based with the gatcha machine. If you haven’t been active in splatoon, it’s hard to build multiple competitive decks unless you’re lucky
I feel like, and this is just my own observation, i dont think hydrus has ever thought about taking a praxis exam lol. Fun episode, just a little hard to hear as a fellow teacher :)
As a non-teacher, i fully agreee. Lots of information very fast without enough explanation. The parts where hydrus did explain was very helpful, it just wasn't enough explaining for the other concepts like why booyah bomb is a beginner's trap.
My talking style is generally pretty fast, I also had to look up what a praxis exam is haha I'll try to keep this in mind if we do another video! This was also my first time being in a bigger video.
@@jojothomas5212 Yeah I could've gone on many different explanations I just tried to get the main points across without getting too distracted. Certain topics in Tableturf Battle you could talk about for a very long time. Especially each individual cards/the 3-12s. If you were interested why cards like Booyah Bomb and Burst Bomb are considered a beginner's trap, they are good on paper but actually terrible in practice against real opponents. They are some of the most outclassed cards in their function. Passing a turn is better than playing burst bomb 99% of the time, and Booyah Bomb is easily special attacked over, has no reach, its too compact to actually reach around special tiles, it can be difficult to get maximum value out of it IF your opponent even has a semblance of special tile defense. You should not use EITHER of these cards as they are just both complete garbage for the reasons that I listed above. Hope that clears you up! If you have any questions (this goes to anyone) just leave a comment! And I'll try to get back to you. I appreciate the healthy criticism.
@@hydrus5822 Thanks a lot for responding. You are clearly very passionate about tableturf 👍. That makes a lot of sense considering what was said in the video where specials cards that can reach into the enemy side and plop a lot of blocks are really good, as well as the use of passing over the tiniest card burst bomb, which wasn't discussed in the video. Which also helps me understand why the 3 block cards are better for special. This ALSO confirms what you've said multiple times in the video that there is a lot to talk about for even single cards (as this is descriptive comment is kind of long but very clear). Thank you for accepting the critisim :) (burst bomb crying in the corner)
Yeah I mean to be fair, I think after having people who are literally like qualified in and experienced in teaching complex concepts to children like a school teacher such as gem, we take for granted how well spoken he is, and his ability to communicate his thoughts to us in an understandable way, and as such, when we come across a person who's probably about as good as most people at that kind of thing, they seem worse by comparison even if theyre probably perfectly fine
i like tableturf! i think i’ll stay casual though- i joined the tableturf battle server, and then realized i could not wrap my head around whatever this is. this video might be helpful for me though
There's events for casual players in TBS, the Wednesday (well, thursday for some time zones) Annie Hour hosted by cryptidcultist might be a good time for you to get involved without competitive pressure! Also feel free to just ping the gameplay coach role and straight up ask about anything that is confusing you
With regards to the desc, according to interviews with jp game devs, harmony still works with chirpy chips on occassion. (Also how has her fish been dying from neglect for a whole 7 years)
no way ! (edit : Harmony is not aggressive, and I would really go against the theory that AIs cheat in any way, it can sometimes feel like your opponent knows all your moves in advance and that's how it goes)
Game 2 turn 10 my explanation : In my opinion you need to consider who has more "play" to properly explain why each player should go left or right. By play I simply mean opportunity to get more space. So, let's say Gem goes right and Harmony goes left. Who then has more play ? I would say that it's Gem (especially if they had a card that could reach just below Harmony's starting block) since with that Dynamo opener there is an obstacle in Gem's base for their opponent to go around. Also Harmony's base is extremely vulnerable since it is a 4-wide gap all the way, making it easy to play many type of cards, and also because there are 2 ways to attack it (either going for the top right corner or to the left) making it harder to defend. Now if Gem were to go left while Harmony went right that would be devastating since Harmony would have access to Gem's entire base, while Gem's play would be slow and easy to defend since they would have to first breach with wiper.
Actually Lean did show us that the AIs do take the piece we played and where we played it into account when deciding a move. We don’t know the extent to which they cheat but we do know they do
Getting rid of Flyfish? I disagree. Flyfish's job isn't to build Special, it's to be disruptive, to eat a chunk of space in a manner inconvenient for your opponent, and no card does it nearly as well as Flyfish. Also, REEF-LUX 450 and Captain is a two Special point combo, so I highly recommend including it as well.
Damn the frame rate is so bad it effects the audio. What caused that? It's not OBS bc your camera and mic and discord audio is fine. Prob a screen sharing thing?
Between Tableturf and the Pokemon TCG, Nintendo has no shortage of card game versions of competitive games they actually care about. So why aren't there physical versions of these cards yet? I want my lil judd card ;-;
