Hi Jason, That item you highlighted looks to be the main ground cable for the El Camino. Your vehicle has great similarities to my Uncles 1960 Chevrolet Parkwood wagon that I rode around in as a kid. I can remember my Cousin Bob and I dropping jelly beans through a rotted hole in the right rear wheel well as my Aunt Rita drove us down the road ! Those cars were prone to rust, but you appear to be winning the battle. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to your next video pressing in the new parts. Thanks for the video.

I know this is a long shot, but being a Chevy and car makers even back then trying to save a buck using the same parts on more than one model, those headlight buckets look identical to Corvairs. There were a couple of types used I think, the 1960 model cars, the FC’s or vans use the same, and the ‘61-64’s another. If so there are many sources such as Clarks Corvair parts, California Corvair, and Corvair Ranch (1000 junk Corvairs).

It's the body frame ground strap for the engine, continuity. with out that car wont start, or what happens the voltage gets confused and creates it's own ground, I seen the polarity reverse, Ground go positive. Ground strap. My 2015 Chevy 4x has it nearly located in the vary same location, That ground strap should rust out on my truck, all the electronics go crazy, even the steering will start to jump back and forth, so all who have a Chevy like mine, it's hid up above behind the inner fender liner well cover, they rot out. I'm very surprised to see it. Building muscle cars back in the day, We put two no# 9 copper wire for grounds from the body to the engine block, one on each side off the fire wall and from the engine block to the frame, make up your own batt cable ground cable, one on each side should cover it. It isn't over kill, Chevy starters charging system, ignition on those old cars can get to be vary sketchy at time. as for the starter, use a number 9 wire from the ignition to the starter, remove the factor wire in the junction wire block on the outside of the fire wall, to the starter replace it that goes for the Distribuidor. and voltage regulator. over heated starters, doesn't like to turn over, put a long nut on the stud post, where the positive cable goes, moving the wires out away from the ex-manifold. it will cure that issue for good. I ran big blocks and small blocks, but the big blocks were more fussy at times. heat. Having engine over heating issues, back in the day we had engine oil water coolers that mounted at the engine oil filter, plus I put an additional trans cooler, all for running out in the CA desert, I never ever had any over heating issues other then the starter some times. The long long on the positive post on the starter fix that. Fix one thing at a time, never never get anxious about other things until your done with what your working on. In time with some luck, some of the stuff will find you out when it is time. I highly recommend replacing the body cab mounting grommets. they do effect the electrical system. grounding, rust. when you get around to teh head lights and tail lights, you will need to cut off all the old wire connectors, at lest two inches back, or more or get a fresh harness, or make your own.

You did alright on the front parts. I was in the same situation for my 78 k10. Needed the front headlights guys, grill and some time. Was cut exactly like yours. I could have went with a new repop, but the quality control is super spotty I’ve seen. You got a good bumper, grill and some chrome trim for 200 bones, that ain’t bad considering their scarcity. You're doing a great job! On the core support being rotted same way in both your car and the parts donor, I feel your pain. I restored a C3 Corvette and every radiator support that was available was always rusted out in exactly the same place as my original. It was either fix what you had or spring for a repop. I see someone else said it already, but the mesh wire is the main ground strap between the frame and the motor. It spans the rubber motor mount because otherwise, there's no metal-to-metal connection between the motor and the frame.
