Unless you can afford a Ferrari, I mean properly afford a Ferrari, it becomes a burden and very hard] to enjoy. I'm glad to have scratched the Ferrari itch but won't be doing it again.

Exactly bro the same!!! I’ve had my 360 for three years and have not had all this drama lol. I feel like this is misinformation and dampers the dreams of people who wish to have one some day. Thumbs down 🤦🏽‍♂️

I think if you were to add up all the 360s that had issues and all that were like yours, I think I know which would be the larger group. But I am very happy that you have had a good experience with yours 😊

@@mguytv what are you basing that assumption on please? I have owned my 360 for 20 years and have had contact with hundreds of 360 owners in that timeframe and I cannot recollect any one instance where someone has had to fork out the vast amount of money you’ve had to, nor have I ever heard of a dealer sold car with so many fundamental issues. I’m afraid I think you are letting your bad luck and unfortunate owner experience cloud your judgement and in the course of that, you are very much putting off potential owners of Fcars.

Sounds like you got unlucky, perhaps because it was the “cheapest”. My Rosso corsa 360 spider has been a joy to own. It’s a manual (in the US) so it is appreciating quite significantly. No major issues and a thrill to drive. The first service/maintenance was $7k to take care of some deferred items (motor mounts, leaking A/C compressor, check engine light due to rollover valves, and fixing leather on dash/windshield vents, plus annual oil change). No other significant issues in 18 months of almost daily driving. Based on my research I think it will average $3-$5K USD/year of maintenance, likely to be offset by appreciation. I enjoyed the process so much I picked up a 1973 Dino GTS as a stablemate, which I adore and also live working on and restoring. Your mileage may vary!

Having been the owner of a 360 for the past 8 years, I will have to agree with you on a couple of your points, but luckily for me mine has never had a major issue. I too felt it was an itch I had to scratch because I have always loved sports cars and Ferrari with its racing F1 heritage was pedigree. Even my grey 360 with a loud exhaust attracts sometimes unwanted attention, but on the other hand hearing the V8 rev to 8000rpm will bring a smile to any car lovers face. I have been fortunate not have had any major mechanical problems, but even the regular servicing is not cheap. My biggest disappointment is I too don't drive it enough, more because of family, crowd attention and parking concerns NOT reliabilty.

Sorry to hear your experience. I am on my 4th Ferrari. A 348, a 355 and 2 x 360’s. I still own a Rosso 360. I wanted 8 tenths of the challenge stradale so moved from a manual to an F1 and then had the ecu and tcu upgraded to challenge spec or better. To do this right you need the cam timing setup perfectly. I too have had ups and downs in Ferrari ownership but the ups far outweigh the downs. It also helps to have a trusted specialist to help you through. I don’t enjoy the attention but I avoid busy places anyway. Just find that open road and listen to one of the best sounding cars of all time sing!!!

They say the two best days of Ferrari ownership is the day you buy it.. and the day you sell it. Great, honest video. Bought my 360 spider around the same time as you. Still have it. No regrets. Buying an example that needed a lot of work though would probably change my ownership experience as well. Best of luck with the channel.

Interesting and timely. I have been "shopping" for a manual 360 online. I have never driven one but I am a big fan of the styling/engine/transmission package. I am concerned about stepping into a money pit. I remember reading a US Ferrari 360 blogger's comment which was "If you cant afford a new Ferrari, you most certainly cant afford a used one" which still haunts me. Among other cars, I run a manual R8 V8 which I will hang on to whatever happens. Your video is probably the nudge back to reality I need, back towards Porsche again. Manual 993,only if I can find a decent affordable one in the UK

I purchased a 2003 360 spider (Red/Tan F1) just before you did. I also recently sold mine. I, like you, am an introvert and the attention was uncomfortable. I got lucky and bought a good reliable example. But in the back of my mind, I was always wondering when my luck would change. I don't regret buying it as I have those experiences to reflect upon. But it was time and I'm glad that I sold it. Itch scratched. I've owned 2 Mercedes and have no real interest in that brand. So I'll not be a subscriber any longer. But good luck with your channel going forward.

I appreciate the heartpouring, and understand where you are coming from. Years ago, I too scratched my itch by buying an old, problematic, 4.2 litre Jaguar XJ6 automatic, and quickly came to regret it. It didn't cost me much, I drove it around for a while, and spent hardly anything trying to renovate it. Instead, I recognised I'd made a bad decision, and like you, quickly got rid of it for much the same reasons. It was nice to have for a while, but I didn't enjoy driving it, so what was the point? Lesson learned. What I did like about that car was just sitting inside it, appreciating the high-gloss walnut dash, leather seats and general trim, and for that, I didn't need to take it out of the garage. That was really its only plus-point: it was nice on the inside. 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about your experience. Agree with the comment below. You were unlucky. US owner here. I bought the most sorted model I could get and am on my 7.5th year of ownership of an '03 F1 coupe and have averaged $2950/year (most of it on maintenance by dealer; cheap by exotic car standard). The only major breakdown was when the right ECU died. No F1 issue to date. These are >18 years old now and something will break sooner or later.

Thanks for sharing!!! Sorry to hear it was not such a good experience and that you now regret trading the R8 and CL65. However, I remember you saying the CL65 was a bit big. So maybe one day you will get another R8 and appreciate it more when you do. Or maybe you will get something completely different. I really like the 612, although it seems a Vegemite car, however, I have the impression they are costly to maintain and not as great to drive as one would expect. The pull of the badge can cloud our judgements. Now you know you have ticked the box. Been there done that. Now you can focus more on the cars, rather than the marques. I have also seen that there's a surprising interest in the likes of the SL. You also now know that not just for you, but for YT views, you don't need to spend so much money. I feel it's a lesson we all need to learn. Anyway, I can also see that your peace of mind is quickly returning, and that's really the most important thing. My advice is chill for a while. Don't rush to get anything else. Just because so many are currently losing their heads during Covid doesn't mean you have to join them. It's really hard for me to say, but there has to be more to life than obsessing over cars. Be well and enjoy your current garage for a while.

That is quite a repair list! I know someone that has a 360 too and they have spent over $23,000 AUD just to keep it on the road. What is disappointing is that several 4 and 6 cylinder BMW'S or Mercedes are just as quick and they cost less brand new

On the other hand, my 612 scaglietti is in service or in the garage and there are very few moments in between, when im just driving it. But i dont think that your 360 was in bad condition, its just those old ferraris in general are behaving in that way, unfortunately. Im about to keep the 612 and sell it after the prices will go somewhere around 100k eur in europe

Thank you for this video! I'm sure everyone who wants to buy a used Ferrari should watch this video. Even I still want to get a red convertible 360 with manual transmission and gated shifter. And videos like this make me sober. And I appreciate it. I think unless you buy a brand new Ferrari under warranty you are risking to spend a lot of money fixing and maintaining it. I guess when you buy a Ferrari to build a channel you really need to act like Doug DeMuro who did the same several years ago. I mean you need to put on a show. In reality not everyone is a showman. If you are more like an introvert then definitely a bright red car with a loud exhaust may not be a good fit. But to be honest C63 and SL55 are also not quiet cars especially C63. Personally, I don't want to be entertaining everyone on YT and I buy my cars because I like them, not because I want to boost my channel. Anyway, I hope you'll get a very nice sports car soon! Like another newer R8! I can hardly call an R8 a car for introverts, but at least the brand itself is more "restrained" than Ferrari or Lambo. Even Maserati looks like a normal car next to a Ferrari.

Wow I have the same story. I traded my R8 & a CLS55 AMG for a Ferrari F430, in 2020. The car has been in the repair shop more than I drive it. It has cost me way too much money. Now I'm am shell shocked to drive it, thinking what else is going to break. I still have it, and I don't want to sell it because I think that I have spent all this money, just for someone else to enjoy without any problems, and it's going up in value. Bottom line, it is my dream car, so I'm keeping it. The color is black with black interior, yellow calipers.

Remember Ferrari 360 is old car and old Italian cars or any exotic cars will give you big big bills to pay. If the history not been great then you should make sure get stuff fixed most likely 20-30k EUR. But if you buy Ferrari F8 or 488 then you dont have much cost. But old classic exotics you can't think it will be cheap ownership :)

Hey man, I m trying really hard not to dislike you, not only because of your seemingly ridiculous decision, selling trading 2 cars, both FAR better then that old 360, each in there own right, except values. I bet the salesman threw a party when he got home home from work that night....To me, common sense dictates that the cheapest example, of an older car, will have issues , Synchros fail in tranny's, it very common and you wouldn't know until you spent some time giving it some gusto in the driver's seat, the previous owner definitely knew. I guess, moving forward, learn these lessons the hard way , that sucked, but, I feel like after this vid, you see what happened, and your better for it, so I dislike you less, and hopefully in the future, I may start liking you content more. I subbed, and will start to recommend your channel to others. Cheers mate.

Sorting the car is part of owning a used Ferrari; it’s like a fixer-upper house purchase and has to be factored into one’s thinking before you commit to buying. I don’t like the attention I get from the general public driving a red Ferrari, but the joy of driving a Ferrari gets me past that. I’ve driven multiple Lambos, Porsches, BMWs, etc. and enjoyed them all, but none have made me feel the way I feel driving my 360. I hope this video doesn’t deter others from owning the 360 because it really is a GREAT Ferrari. It’s my 2nd Ferrari and I won’t be selling mine until I can get into an F430 Scud or a 458 Italia and, even then, I hope I can afford NOT to sell the 360. It really comes down to getting a well-sorted example and being able to afford to keep it that way.

PPIs at least in my experience are not really worth it. Paying $700-$1000 usd on average is not worth it when that money could be set aside for maintenance. Most of the time a basic safety inspection is performed during a PPi. Most of the time if you are mechanically inclined you can probably inspect the car yourself. Coolant should be changed regularly every 2-3 years. If not you can corrode the heat exchanger and dump damaging coolant into the gearbox which is what occurred to cause the vast majority of the damage here. Follow the maintenance schedule and you should not be over $3-5k average annually ever.
@sultanoftippoo3857
@sultanoftippoo3857 2 года назад
Totally disagree. A proper PPI should be way more detailed than “a basic safety inspection” ie: compression test, focus on areas of the specific model that has known issues etc. Finding a known/trusted but independent Ferrari specialist is key. Anyone spending upwards of $100k on a 20 year old car should see $700 as peanuts to reduce your chances of buying a lemon.

Hi Simon, great honest video. I do empathise and honestly I was never a fan of the Ferrari. In fact I don’t like Ferrari’s. You couldn’t give me one. I put a comment on your channel when you first described what you had to do to it …. The dealer who sold you that car is an absolute cretin and clearly a shonk, I know where they are and would never buy anything from them. For you to have to spend nearly $50k on it within a few months of purchase is unbelievable and most certainly would sour the whole ownership experience. I have been a subscriber mainly for your German cars, your CLs and SLs were my favourites tbh. I was sad to see you sell your SL55. I like your channel as you are an enthusiastic car nut a bit like me, I have no desire to have a RU-vid channel but do have a nice collection of cars myself which give me great joy. Anyway it’s done now so chin up , move on to something more to your tastes and preferences, yes a nice classic CL or maybe a 560 SEC or a classic 300 SEL 6.3… lots of cars to look at. Good luck Simon and I’m sure we all look forward to your next garage asset! Cheers

$32,000 USD is way too much for what was done. Ferrari dealerships are the last place you actually want to service your Ferrari. However, don't beat yourself up about the PPI. Some of those issues, if actual issues and the Ferrari dealer not telling you lies, would not have been picked up on a PPI, like synchros. I was only a subscriber for the Ferrari content. Why didn't you take the car back to the dealer you bought it from? They should stand by their car.

In Australia, only cars under 10 years old have any dealer warranty...

I've been driving for 46 years and have never considered buying a Ferrari, mainly because I am an engineer and couldn't stomach the thought of being "Rogered" by a Ferrari dealer or Ferrari independent specialist on what is an inherently poorly made and unreliable car, compared to well established makes (Mercedes, Audi, Porsche etc) who are known for their quality and reliability. Didn't realise you traded an R8 plus a lovely Merc for the 360. I must have missed that video, still I guess you have learnt a valuable lesson. I got to your channel because of your lovely Mercedes SL, one of which I also own and would never part with. BTW I also have a beautiful R8 too. If its any consolation I think you have done the right thing... 👍

Not sure which rock you've been living under but on this planet, large modern Audis, many Mercedes and BMWs are horribly unreliable. During the time of the 360 shown here and the very solid F430, the Gerrmans built some of the most terrible cars and drivetrains ever made. The mid 2000s 745i, M5, A8/S8, RS6, S and CL65s under Chrysler co-ownershi(t) would frequently need tens of thousands in engine out service, engine replacements at 40-50K, intake manifolds, never ending issues with the air and hydraulic suspension systems over the course of the vehicles life. Electronic gremlins at low miles, I can go on and on. Until my fellow country men discovered cost cutting in the 90s, they mostly built well made cars, especially Mercedes, but a modern Ferrari F430 and onward are easily more dependable than a German luxo barge, IF people actually drive them. Were the early F1 transmissions in the Ferraris great? Definitely not but talk to any BMW SMG owner and they all either bled thousands to fix them, sold the car or converted to manual. The only German brand that truly still stands out today in the reliability department is Porsche.

Interesting. You said it didn’t suit your personality and you didn’t like the attention, my question is didn’t you think about that before trading in your cars for a FERRARI ?
@mguytv
@mguytv 2 года назад
Well it was partly a bucket list thing, but also until you own one you can never know really how intense the attention can be.

You just got rid of the only thing that you had that was vaguely interesting. At least others can use your experience as a guide on how not to treat a great car from the worlds greatest motoring manufacturer.

I'm glad the ferrari is gone. the videos with it while driving were a pain to watch because of this annoying loud exhaust droning. I'm surprised how quiet the C63 is instead. I'm also a little bit surprised when you said, you couldn't afford it. i mean, you bought another cars while you owned the 360...why have you done that if the 360 was too much already? given your previous car history i always thought you were a millionaire or at least in a very high paid job.

Should have done your homework first, I own a few Ferrari’s and know them very well. You bought some one else’s problems, also every one knows Ferrari’s are very flashy cars, you should have stayed with the Audi and Benz.

Ferrari's from 2000 - 2010 were made poorly. That's why a lot of people go to Lambos because they're more reliable.
