Yeah, the Stafford is well known in internet chess thanks to Eric, but most of the chess world doesn't happen on the internet, and it's a dubious line at the end of the day. Once you know the traps, the cheese, it's easy to refute. So most people won't study it.

I ran over the game with Stockfish. For not knowing the Stafford, Dina played very, very well against an extremely dangerous opponent in a dangerous opening. She consistently found the best defensive moves while under time pressure. Sacrificing a pawn on d4 in order to play Ne2! was a fantastic intuition, one that Stockfish loved. Her one mistake was 15. Qe3, just as she was pulling out of the worst of Eric's attack, because Black can trade the Queens and convert into a winning endgame, up a pawn and with a passed g-pawn. However, punishing that is a hard line to find even without a blindfold. Eric understandably missed it, and played 15...Qe5, and from then on it was an exciting, but dead draw (without the time considerations).

But blindfolded endgame takes much longer if they use the proxy mover. If his time stops after saying the move he would be fine, but as they’re playing here I assume he may bleed out. Maybe not with the 2 second increment.

@@cptobvius Feels like blindfold player should get like half a second higher increment. I was also surprised he didn't force simplification to just pawn endgame with a Rf5 instead of Rd6 at the end, but I guess it was mostly over by that point anyway

those were some surprising moves she made to defend early on, but some were surprisingly effective at preventing a crushing loss (still a much better endgame for black, between the rook files and the pawn structure, though she actually seemed to be making progress at the end). as I saw Qh4 h3 Qg3 was coming, I didn't see how to survive that as white. didn't even immediately see how d4 would prolong the game more than one move - that was some crafty defensive work with the knight. I don't think I'll be trying this as an anti Stafford because it really seems to offer no prospects, but for an OTB blitz innovation against a Stafford monster it's a damn good fight.
