The best scene of the movie "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"
Dialogue:
Elizabeth I: Ambassador? What do you know of the Enterprise of England?
Don Guerau De Spes(Ambassador): The Enterprise? Forgive me, Majesty, I'm not familiar...
Elizabeth I: Two armies landing on the coast of Sussex and... (pause) ...Norfolk. Mary Stuart is to be set free and placed on the English Throne, and I am to be assassinated. Does any of this sound familiar?
Don Guerau De Spes: I know nothing of any invasion plans...
Elizabeth I: Well, I refer to this plan as the Enterprise of England, it should more accurately be called "La Empresa de Inglaterra" because it is a Spanish plan. The plan of my one-time brother in law, your king, to attack my country.
Don Guerau De Spes: Your country? It is my country that is under attack. Your so called Piratas, your pirates attack our merchant ships daily. And you... You think we don't know where the orders come from? The whole world knows these pirates sail up the tames, all the way to your royal bed.
Elizabeth I: (Angry) You will leave my presence, sir. Go back to your rat hole! Tell Phillip I fear neither him, nor his priests, nor his armies. Tell him if he wants to shake his little fist at us. we're ready to give him such a bite, he'll wish he'd kept his hands in his pockets.
Don Guerau De Spes: You see a leaf fall and you think you nkow which way the wind blows. Well, there is a wind coming, madam, that will sweep away your pride.
Elizabeth I: (Very angry) I, TOO, CAN COMMAND THE WIND, SIR! I HAVE A HURRICANE IN ME THAT WILL STRIP SPAIN BARE IF YOU DARE TO TRY ME!
Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush,Clive Owen and Samantha Morton.

I think that's a leap, she's likely called Madam because royal styles on the continent weren't as exotic as English ones. To call a woman as old as Elizabeth anything else would be insulting--madam isn't just for married women, it applies to anyone woman who isn't a young adult

That was a gallant gesture but just gesture Foolish let a loyal noble killed defending her "honour" nonsense Elizabeth knew they knew too (as they must have had well paid informants in her inner circle) that however making fun of noble houses princes or kings pretending her alliance by marriage, as it was a centuries long business until the mid XX c., she made herself a pirate's slut, way beneath her station and office.... while playing virgin princess to the plebes swallowing the propaganda. Not even Lady Diana would be so respected for sleeping around with polo players or muslim daddy's boys, however not anymore forced to be called to SERVE as Queen. the visionary/ joseph manno i agree that it seems to be part of human nature to proclaim something the GOAT, but acting is art...so it is puzzling to me because you can enjoy many different artists who are great in their own unique ways without denigrating others... but i guess i get it, its just one of those things humans continually don't leave behind or outgrow, at least not yet.. and i guess its kind of almost a figure of speech at this point, like "pizza is the best! i love pizza!" so you could take that as the idea of the best and of love being watered so far down, but really...you don't actually mean it like that, so whatever i think were overanalyzing this..

Even Caesar had a nasty experience with the English natives using bad weather between storms and rain to screw with him over, losing cavalry to mud and had to flee. They made Roman invasion of England extremely expensive and unrewarding. Much like the Russians typically use the winter against enemies, England's traditionally used rain and storms to their advantage. Mud and storms are our best friends. Traditionally, Britain's military and navy has used smaller numbers relying more on strategy than power. After the fiasco of the Invincible Armada, Elizabeth I wanted to take advantage of Spain's weakness to destroy its power. England, however, suffered its greatest catastrophe on the sea. The Counter Armada: this was the greatest Spanish naval victory over England that almost nobody counts. Of the 180 ships that had sailed to take Spain, 102 returned with many of their men infected by the plague suffered at sea and which they spread when they went ashore. Of the 27,667 men who had embarked, only 3,722 survived. This expedition - whose losses were double those of the Invincible Armada - made it the greatest naval catastrophe in the history of England.
