As a Greek person who grew up watching my grandma do the "cupping therapy" on my grandpa's back everytime he caught a cold, I find it kinda funny that is now presented as an alternative therapy and has become a trend. I mean, here in Greece, it is sort of a traditional thing and pretty common too among old people to perform the cupping when they feel ill before anything else and instead of taking some kind of medicine.

I would just say another way she can treat her headaches is to go to a chiropractor. I go to one and the first session, my headache was gone in less then 30 minutes

I also suffer with chronic pain from migraines, neck and back pain daily/weekly for over 15 years. I receive Botox and trigger point injections with other medications in order to function. I use a chiropractic care and an acupuncture from time to time. Living with pain is never easy and it won’t just ever go away but having a productive and happy life is what we all want.
@justjess-yn4bl
@justjess-yn4bl Месяц назад
hmmm chiro should have been able to help with that with no problem. you might want to try massage and Physical therapy. Also, you don't necessarily need cupping from an acu. I usually just put needles in for migraine patients. Headaches are actually one of the easiest things to treat with acupuncture, imo. If you go back to a chiro, maybe try one that does gentle manipulation (not the cracking ones). And just as random info, TCM also says sex helps with migraines. Might want to try yoga too. Also, I assume you've already had imaging done, but if not, see a neurologist to see if they can figure out the origin of the problem. Then see the others to get pain relief and try to correct the issue, if possible.

I was not a fan of how this person described cupping in a gimmicky way - energy in cup? What the heck is that supposed to be. It helps stimulate blood circulation like a massage and she made it sound like stars aligning and crystal power stuff. Cupping is widely used in Asia. I personally found it very helpful for strains or pulls on muscles, especially when used with Western medicine. It is recommended to usually do them together in Korea, since both are covered by insurance anyways.

I am sorry but pilosebaceous unit (aka. skin "pore") is not something that is opened and closed by heat and/or any other manipulation, be it mechanical or chemical simply because it lacks the necessary masculature. 4-years of whatever education and still being unaware of this super confused, and overly abused concept (that certain manipulations could open and close the pores for a desired end result of some sort)... just wow! Btw, yes, I am a doctor.

Provider. And it's because the training in CA is MUCH more extensive than ANY other state. In our class, we had a Naturopath from another state who had to go back to acupuncture school because her training wasn't enough for the CA boards. If you go to an acupuncturist in CA, they will know orthopedic exams, will understand what basic panels mean, can order tests, and depending on your case, will probably want to be in contact with your GP. As a student, I was in contact with one of my patient's GP and Psychiatrist because my patient wanted to get off her psych meds. Took 2 years, but by the end she was off them and doing very well. There are people who REALLY don't trust MDs/Allopathic medicine and will not go to MDs. These people are often the ones who will pick Cali Acus as their primary care providers.

There’s no science to back any of this up. If you want to reference the placebo affect, sure. But once you starting taking about “pores and heat and nervous system” you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. You’re just saying things that sound nice. Reference some actual studies on the science behind cupping and what it actually does within the body. Then we’ll talk.

@jjk4891

Cupping is actually very widely used in Asian medicine. It’s like a massage - usually used to stimulate blood flow. So it has that much effect, think of it as a nice deep massage, commonly done for rehab or stiff mucles. This person really made it sound like stars aligning bs and I did not appreciate that as an Asian American.
@justjess-yn4bl
@justjess-yn4bl Месяц назад
TCM is being studied. Agencies/organizations in the USA are looking at mechanisms to try and explain why patients get better/why it works. Cupping definitely works for pain... it did for me, and it does for my patients. You don't have to use fire cups, but I only use them, because they work better and are easier to use. It's basically a massage with suction to stimulate blood flow (in TCM we say "Move Qi and Blood") and decrease pain in the muscles. Patients often ask for it because it feels good and it works. It's not necessary to create so much suction that the patient has pain or feels a burning sensation on the skin from the fire... In fact, acupuncturists are trained NOT to do so in California. And I've never seen anyone with raised marks after a treatment. That's some strong cupping! The effect of a massage isn't placebo, and neither is this. As far as the pores etc. Stuff can definitely come out. Some patients have green colored gunk that comes out, some brown, etc... like enough that you have to stop it from dripping and wipe it away after you remove the cup... you can actually see it collecting in the cup. Hasn't happened much, but it has happened.. No idea what it is, probably oil and dirt, but in TCM we just say "toxins". If you do "wet" cupping, then you actually use a small lancet to pierce the skin and then put the cup over it to suck out the blood... That's not something I do. Never had a patient I felt I had to "bleed", but I was "bled" in China on my ankle. Twisted it really badly and it hurt like hell. They treated it with acupuncture and bled it, and then it didn't hurt, and I could walk on it.... Immediately.
