See and this is why I love Katie, she's like everyone else. It took her multiple tries to make that cake, bless her and Chris's sweet heart for persevering 🖤😂
Advice to anyone who wants to try this: if you can, use agar agar instead of gelatin. You can find it in most Asian markets. It's vegan, hella cheap, and doesn't have that weird ass gelatin smell or taste (so you don't need to add so much extra sugar). It's also a little more structurally sound (ie/ less jiggly) compared to gelatin.
I just want to say I really appreciate Katie's efforts in her videos. Like she is at home filming, she could have done a simple video given the constraints BUT NO Katie just keeps outdoing herself video after video. Really kudos to her and her husband!
Internet made it look so easy! I'm glad Katie is here to prove it's not that easy and now I know the actual expectations for when I try to make this cake. Had so much fun watching this video, thanks Katie!
its very encouraging to see you are seeing similar things what we are going thru while me and my son making videos for recipes. Its not easy but got new energy after seeing this video and will continue to try. thanks.
It turned out awesome and guessing the reason why your gelatin didn’t set up the first time was because of the high temps you guys were having to deal with from June-September! Thanks so much for sharing! Much love and positive vibes from Montana. ✨💖✨
Nice job. Yeah, on the first gelatin mixture I was yelling at the screen like it was a horror movie, "Too much water, not enough gelatin." It looks amazing and I love the dry ice volcano effect.
Incase you ever decide to do it again: my family hates soggy cake, so when we make trifle for christmas, my mom makes the jello, puts it in the fridge until it starts to set (not firm, still very loose) and then puts a layer over the cake. It should prevent spillage with a cake like that as well
My island is being battered by waves from every angle, is that how it works? Shore!? (Nice hidden pun there) also I can recognise the absolute heart wrenching grief of a cake fail, as a fellow baker. But the final product is stunning, and I love dry ice, wish I had more excuses to play with it! 🧁 🍰 🌴 🌊 🏖 🏝
