I'm American female, age 65. I partied in my 20s, but somehow got two degrees. In my 30's, I worked , got married and became a stepmother. That did NOT go well, so I had a huge midlife crisis and married a very handsome man I did not know was a drug addict. Got divorced, moved to Alaska and started a business. Got a bunch of money and came back to the Lower 48 at 60. Now I have a quiet little life as an adoption social worker, reconnected with all my cousins, etc. When I'm 70, I'll move even closer to family, retire 100% and babysit for my family members. And that's how my "normal life" has gone George. You are doing very, very well and I love watching your videos. You make me happy. Peace Out.

@@mezanian Almost everyone who goes through a "midlife crisis" like becoming a widow, marrying a scary drug addict, etc pulls upon their 'faith in a higher power.' I would have mentioned that, but I didn't want subscribers to distract from what I was trying to tell George. There is great peace in nature (the ocean) and with me-great peace with Jesus. Glad you struggled through and came out OK. Now your son can build upon your success!

When I look back at how stressed I was raising a child(only 1!) while continuing a professional career, I realize that maybe there were other paths I could have chosen. You are intelligent and unlikely to fall in to the trap of social media, it's not worthy of your time to compare your life to others. My birthday's on the 27th too! Happy Birthday! Nothing's a waste. Our 20's and 30's are for exploration. The worst thing we can do - and we all do it - is compare our life's journey with others. Trusting your gut and being true to yourself is paramount. I'm in my 60's and life around us now has definitely sped up significantly. The internet is a double-edged sword. It can be a great resource for information but there is also SO much garbage on it. I have no doubt it skews our perceptions. It sounds to me like you have figured out your own pace of life, and that excellent.

I live in Lubbock, Texas USA. I am 57 years old. I have dealt with mental health issues since I was a child. I do believe everyone's life is different. We all go down a different path. We all make good choices and bad choices. I have been suicidal several times in my life and I am grateful I have stuck around for the ride. Life is difficult and life is a struggle and life can be beautiful at times. I don't think it's easy for anyone. Having some regrets is part of being human. I have been exercising and lifting weights for the past 3 months. I feel calmer and happier. I know being still for too long gets me in trouble. I know being busy with all sorts of different things makes me happier. Keep moving forward and don't keep looking back.

I spent my twenties still living at home, helping care for my disabled brother and being there for my unhealthy mom, so I neither lived wildly NOR invested in my own future, and I hate my life. But I have a new job related to a business I'd like to start by 30 (I'm currently 27), and with my newfound money I can go on some dates finally too. All this to say, if you're someone who isn't faced with the partying 20s vs stability seeking 20s and still feel like you wasted them, you aren't alone. Let's make this year better together. 🍻

34, I have felt like I wasted my 20's, but then I remind myself I had severe depression, anxiety and was suicidal through out them so...considering how I overcame all those challenges, I actually did a lot with the little I had, even though it took over 10years. I don't quite have the security I long for still, but mentally I'm happier and healthier I've ever been in my whole life, so the "waste" is just the dissappointment of not having had the same priviledges to live the kind of care-free childhood and 20's as other people did. My circumstances are not my fault, I did great considering I had pretty much no support going though all that. Society sifts the blame on us with all the rat-race and grind mindset bs. I could've recovered sooner if only I had received a reliable, no-strings-attached economic support. Battling mentalheatlh issues and poverty at the same time is not the supportive environment needed for recovery. So if there's any other folk feeling bad because they were denied basic needs due to mental health or other struggles, it's not your fault, you did the best you could in a bad situation. If you're still here, you absolutely aced those tough times. Peace🌱

Hello George, this year I am entering my “fourth quarter.” In my twenties I thought I knew everything, in my thirties I learned there was a lot I did not know, in my forties I realized I needed to focus on learning what would make me not only successful and secure, but how to care for myself and my family. In my fifties, I learned that I needed to focus on my health. In my sixties I learned that I could overcome sickness and gained a new appreciation for what it takes to be happy, in my seventies I am learning how to grieve, but move forward positively. In this fourth quarter, I look forward to continuing to learn and be productive and happy, but also to share what I have learned with those around me.

Happy birthday Patchy. I tapped the big 50 a few months ago. I took the path of stability and being generally responsible throughout these past decades. As I've gotten older, I've cared much less about what others think of me... which actually takes some pressure off me to look or act a certain way. Now I have grandkids and am very glad to have my health to go back and play again. My biggest issue throughout time has been that I've typically either been dwelling on the past or worrying about the future; and absent from the present moment. It's an area I still have work to do.

One thing my father taught us was to be happy above all else and cherish each moment. He was a WW2 Vet, fought in the European campaign against the Nazis and was determined that if he survived he’d build a family, yes 10 of us, back home in Canada and he did. Needless to say, I was taught, don’t look back, be grateful and turning 70, starting life over as a widower, lost my beautiful husband of many years, and am now looking forward to a new chapter. You’ve done amazing things George. I laughed when you mentioned feet pics. It seems to have morphed into a popular topic. Hahaha! I'm not 30 yet, but as I'm getting closer to it, I found myself going through a meltdown about it and its ironic how many videos like these I'm seeing just in the last 5 days, along with many childhood RU-vidrs closing their chapters on the platform and every lifelong friend of mine going their own way now. It made me feel that much more panicked. But after my mind raced in literally thousands of circles, I did notice something. Every person I'm comparing my life to, is older. They're already at that point in their life, some even shame me for not being at the same point as them and tell me how there are younger people who are already at the point they're at, and I feel the pressure to "keep up". But that's not right, none of us is everybody else. So that part where you mention going at your pace, really resonated with me.

It's your life. Not theirs. Not anybody else's. Nobody else has your life, only you, so don't let anyone else dictate what you should or should not have in, or have achieved in, your life. It's a good thing to always be aiming for something new, like a challenge or a new skill or experience or whatever, but it can distract from what you already are and what you have achieved. People need to find their own balance. If you are managing to have as many of the things that you want in your life, like music, art, travel, fashion, theatre, sport, or whatever floats your boat, and as many of the people you want in your life then I would say you are doing things just fine. None of us travel the same road. Take care.

Hi everyone, so I’m 25 and I know that feeling of wasting your time yet what I learned last year is that it is not the time itself making us feel that. It is the things we do or do not. My lesson last year was that I can change all of that whenever I want to, just start carving out a path even if you start with a toothbrush as a tool. Once you Beginn to change the things you don’t like about your current situation it will become easier and easier. In conclusion I must say that I don’t feel like wasting my twenties it’s all just funny numbers made up by society, life the way you want to life and by god don’t let anyone stop you and especially not numbers. Be brave and change to grow and kick in walls where there might be no door.

Now 62, I do recall the awful pressure I was under in my 20s and 30s from family, friends, society, to be hugely impressive -- phenomenal well-paying career, married to a successful guy, slim and perfect, an upper middle class home, etc. As I'm a born poet, traveler, human rights activist, and rebel, I said No to all of that. Still a poet and activist, just one who started her own business (spiritual growth coach and author) in my 40s after traveling, studying, working various day jobs to keep me afloat, meeting many people and asking many questions. My "retirement nest egg" is -- not big, shall we say. I'm still renting, never married, no children. I'm fine with all of that. Carve out your own path, friends! When the poet said, "To thine own self be true," he had a point there. Blessings on your path, George. You're doing great! 😊🙏

I turned 30 recently, too! All things considered, I'm feeling pretty happy with where I am in life. A year and a half ago, things in my life got really hard. I was in pain and didn't know why, my relationship wasn't going well (and eventually ended), I was experiencing terrible anxiety, and my grandmother, whom I was close with, became ill and passed away. When I finally overcame the anxiety and was able to process my grief, things on the other side didn't look nearly as bad as they had before. I like my job, I make enough to live comfortably, and I'm not pining to travel the world or party. I've been happy.

We spent our 40's in Mexico working remotely and experiencing a different culture. Now that we're back in the US, I'm planning a perfect wood shop to build things during retirement. I'll be 79 in March, and lost my husband of 60 years 2 days before Christmas. My 20s were spent in a very small town in Canada missing my home of Northumberland and Tyneside, and my extended family, while rearing our 3 children. We have 3 great grandchildren now and I still miss my home place, but I know we built ourselves a good life so I can't complain or rue choices made. We all of us just do our best with what our circumstances provide, and which options we've chosen, and regret is really a big waste of time and mind. Mistakes are something we hopefully learn from and don't repeat. As long as we are kind to others and don't cause harm, and create a decent life for those we love, I believe we're successful human beings. I'm in my sixties. And you are spot on with your analysis. The need to post/document all the things we do.... instead of enjoying the moment we are in. I do not post anything about the things I do. I'll tell you the next time I see you. I cringe every time I'm at an event and people have their cell phone out - recording, instead of looking at what's going on.

I'm 48. Went to uni, didn't use my Chemistry degree because I needed to earn money and couldn't carry on. Got a job in finance that I didn't enjoy but it paid the mortgage for the next 25 years. Made redundant after 17 years with a firm and now I'm contemplating my choices. Decided to realize my assets and move back up north where I can live mortgage-free, nice small house and go after my dream of flying. It might not work but I'm finally free to do what I've dreamed of.

I feel like I should have waited to have children until my 30’s, and instead learned who I am and what I was really all about. I matured in my 30’s and THEN received degrees and a career while still raising children and then as a single parent. I feel parenthood severely restricted my life choices, and at 68, with some health problems, I’m limited as to what I can do in life NOW. I say to all: do what you want when you can as time truly does go quickly.

George, you are wise beyond your years. I’m close to 70, but still feel like a twenty year old most of the time in that I have so much to learn still. Your videos help me in so many ways because you are not afraid to be honest and share your thoughts and feelings. I don’t regret the way I have spent my life even though I didn’t get to do many of the things I had wanted to do. What I do regret only are the times I was selfish, or self-centered or unkind. Those things weigh on me although I know we have all had those moments in our lives. Those are the only things I would like to change.

I'm 80, insecure when younger, but yearned to see the world, not interested in security really, worked, went to school, then traveled the world working for an airline for 20 years, loved it, went back to school, met my husband, moved to Canada, loved it, we travelled, we moved 12 times in 25 years, more adventures, both loved it... he passed away 10 years ago, moved back to the states, still working, still traveling, not sure I would have had it any other way, was always a bit wild.. loved adventure.. always a positive view, and all worked out! .. very blessed...also had three cats, Spotte, Minnie and Zoe, tuxedo kitties, moving with us!... would have hated to be/stay in one place. Everyone is different with different adventures, hopefully everyone finds the right ones for themselves! Love the beauty of your work and the scenes in this video!

George, this video really spoke to me. I'm 28 and recently moved back in with my dad after living across the country due to financial reasons. I spent my early and mid 20s in relationships, having fun, having hard times, and learning a lot, but now after going through a breakup and moving back across the country to my hometown, I feel completely lost. Hearing this helped put into perspective that everyone's journey is different, and this doesn't make me any less of a person. Thank you!

Almost 50 and grateful for the peace of mind that arrived around 40. I admire you George, for figuring out the kind of life you needed. I also admire you being open about the difficult things as well as your successes. No doubt you've helped people with your honesty. I think social media can leave people comparing their insides with other people's (often filtered and/or fictional) outsides and feeling the pressure you refer to. I'm glad we didn't have social media when I was a bairn, and I worry about the social and emotional carnage it can cause. Thank goodness for positive and thoughtful channels like yours. Happy Birthday!

A very happy and healthy 30th birthday, George and hope there were some treats for Junior so she could celebrate, too! The twenties are not wasted -- there is a learning curve to maturity that took place in my 20s --- lots of parties, rugby playing boyfriends, marriage proposals, moving out of my home at 19 and living in NYC with roommates -- repeatedly changing apartments -- to the annoyance of my mother -- gaining in maturity and ultimately putting down the things that no longer worked for me or I didn't want in my life --- including alcohol. It was quite a time with no regrets! I look back on those years with humor and wouldn't trade them for anything! 😸🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂😸

George, , whatever decisions you have made, I would say you have taken the road that is right for you. It is so easy to look at the roads that others take and possibly be influenced and go in the wrong direction. You show real strength taking your own journey. I have a real belief in the saying: "Be who you are, not what the world wants you to be." Personally, whenever I have not followed my instincts and taken a road influenced by others, either in a good or a negative way, I feel a sense of loss as to the person I am. It doesn't take sheer strength to be where you are, it takes an understanding of oneself. You have become self aware and are very honest with us about it. I have such respect for you. I hope 2024 brings you what you wish for.

This is a wonderful video. I am 68 and have learned that comparing my life to others' lives is self-defeating. My 20's were spent in undoing the damage to my self-confidence and self-esteem that was done by circumstances in my younger years. From 30 on, I concentrated on achieving the security that you also craved. Now in my 60's, my concentration is to pursue my artistic life that I did not have time for when younger in the form of taking classes and teaching myself how to paint and sculpt. Some denigrate old age, but for me, it has been the best time of my life.

I spent the first 3 years of my 20s in the Navy brainwashing myself to be straight like I believed I was supposed to be due to my anti gay religious upbringing, and I believed if I tried hard enough I could change my sexuality. When that experiment failed I started my first gay relationship with the hottest most masculine gay man I ever met. My dream man. Think of Rocky Balboa and you get the picture. The look, the voice, everything. After 6 months of a great relationship, my Rocky doppelgänger casually mentioned that he had started seeing someone else. I was devastated as I thought I’d be spending the rest of my life with him. I tried to depart like a man, but I bawled like a baby. To say the least, I completely moved on, met and dated other guys, but none ever measured up to the first one. By freak chance I met up with the Rocky doppelgänger again in my 40s, and he in his 50s, and he was the true definition of a train wreck. Not even an inkling of the hot sexy man I had met so many years earlier. This experience taught me that a lot of things happen to us for a reason and even when we’re devastated and heartbroken about things not going our way, sometimes that is a really good thing. A really really GOOD thing! 😅

I agree with your observation about social media. I’ve heard various commentators say that social media can drive dissatisfaction and envy and/or greed - someone else has a better life, bigger home, perfect family, amazing holidays, etc etc etc. One of the problems with social media is that what you see if not always fact, but rather someone’s wish to portray a perfect life that may be far from the reality. I’m in my late 60s and enjoy social media (I’m not on Facebook) - particularly vlogs like yours. I think that if a person is able to have a balance of fun and hard work in their 20s they are doing well. I worked hard, saved and spent it all on overseas holidays in my 20s and 30s. I rented till I was 50, but also saved for a home and finally found one. All this while being a single mother. You decided on stability and there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s hopefully plenty of time ahead of you to party/holiday. Never compare your life to others’ lives just be content with what you’ve achieved so far.

I'm in my 60's now, and in my 40s I really questioned my 'wasted life', not having a 'good time' when i was younger. But I lost my parents relatively young. I was 15 when i lost my mum to cancer and 22 when i lost my dad to heart disease, so very early on I was desperate for security, worked hard to put a roof over my head, and bought myself a flat at 20, thereby saddling myself with a mortgage from an early age. I spent too much time regretting my 'boring' life in later years, but the fact was simply that I needed that security back then. Now here I am, retired, and finally able to enjoy myself a little bit - albeit with poor health now. Typical! But you can't second guess what your life might have been if you had taken an alternative path, and it only gets you dissatisfied with your life if you try. I liked your summary - basically, the grass always seems greener on the other side. We have to learn to be content with our lot. After all, you can't change the past.

I've enjoyed my 20's so far though. I've never partied, not drunk alcohol, never dated and still live at home. I've built a stable career and earn a reasonable wage (not huge, but enough for me). I just spent the morning looking through photos from 1995-1999 when I was in my twenties. I took a walk on the adventure/travel side, living in Japan and traveling around. Ironically, the lack of stability led me to stay in a toxic relationship for the duration of that time and when it all ended and I was single, nearly 30 and back home, the whiplash was painful. I'm fortunate I had a stable, supportive family to help me through that time. Now that I'm in my 50s, married happily and raising two beautiful children, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Life is long, though social media would have us believe differently.

Through my 20s till now, I’ve always felt like I was behind in something. That I’ve never “caught up” because everything from jobs, family, relationships, friendships, all fluctuated in stability. I am a 71 year old widow. I am secure in my life but it came at a great cost, my husband's suicide. Eight years after the fact I am still dealing with the fallout and will probably do so until I pass on. I always worked full time during my working life, but am now retired. I should have a husband by my side to grow old with but I do not. That causes a bit of anxiety for me and find I am playing "whack a mole" with my emotions most of the time. I am trying to live a life of understanding others, give second chances, and always extend kindness. These are thing I can do for others that also fulfills me. I live a quiet life, have several good friends, and a roof over my head. I am thankful for what I have, and for what I have worked hard for. In spite of my loss, I have been blessed and try to remember that every day. Happy Birthday George, life is a gift and yours to spend as you will. Happy Belated Birthday Patchy! I’m 48, & my life has surfed consistently on the “cursed” side, but do I feel like I wasted my 20’s, 30’s & most of my 40’s? Do I have regrets? Well, that answer is between me & my 2 cats, and I’m pretty sure they’ll never betray me. Every decade lived, is both; experience under your belt & a bit of poor choices made that usually end up living rent free in your head at 2 am when you should’ve been asleep by 11. To quote one of my favourite wizards: “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” But I should add: “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.” 🖖🏽✨

I'm sorry you feel that you've wasted your 20s. Looking back at all the stuff you wish you would have done instead or done differently isn't healthy or helpful. It's been a major source of my depression that bubbles up this time of the year for the entirety of my 20s. (I'll be 27 this year) Look at what you did accomplish and be proud of it. Then look to the future and look at what you want to do 1 year, 5 years, 10 years from now and work towards those goals. It's never to late to do anything in life.

So yeah I am trying to see it as that. Also coming to the end of the part of my life where I lived up to others/society's expectations and therefor I am looking forward to what my life will be like once I start living. I don't regret my life's decisions or the hardships in my life. The journey has made me the person that I am today. Now that I am older, I don't spend too much time reflecting on the past decades of my life. I have just learnt to focus on today and touch the lives around me to the best of my abilities. If I had to reflect on my 20s, then I would say that I am so thankful that I was more introverted and chose the quieter pathways throughout all of my years. I am on my 7th decade, George. Live life without worry because I really think one's life unfolds according to a plan. I've watched over the decades people struggling to achieve things not part of their life plan and they end up frustrated and depressed. Then there are those who do nothing, but coast or be a couch potato and they end up in a place of contentment or fulfillment. I wanted badly to be one thing, and I ended up becoming something I never even once gave a thought of becoming. We are about to have another family reunion, and we will all be recalling our follies, successes, failures, etc., and we will all have a good laugh or two as we recall them. I don't believe our consciousness ever dies, so I am looking forward to my next adventure.
