I Watched *ELLA ENCHANTED* For The FIRST TIME And It Made Me Sooo UPSET

In the book, Lucinda is tricked into putting all her curses on herself to see what it's like. She has such a horrible time, she renounces magic entirely

Fun fact: Lucy Punch, aka Hattie, also played the stepsister in 2000's Cinderella, Into the Woods, and the Cinderella episode of Fairy Tales. Even better, it's actually not typecasting. When she was a little girl, when everyone else wanted a princess party, she asked for an ugly stepsister party. This is literally a dream come true for her.

The book is so different and sooooo much better but this cheesefest of a movie will always have my heart

There aren't many movies I was smart enough to find existential crisis worthy when I was a kid but this one messed me *right* up. Ella being forced to tell her friend she can't see her anymore (And especially being ordered to call her a slur) and then almost murdering the prince made me reflect big time what a blessing autonomy is, before I knew what it was. Imagine having to live your life this way. I'd die first.

Fairy Devilmother: Lucinda not only "blesses" Ella with the *"gift of obedience",* but when Ella pleads and begs for her to remove the *"gift",* Lucinda is offended and refuses: declaring arrogantly *"everybody loves my gifts."* She not only shows no interest in why Ella would want it removed, but while Ella chained herself to a tree to try and avoid obeying Edgar's order to kill Char, Lucinda frees her and orders her to go to the ball. *This is in contrast to her original novel counterpart,* who designs her gifts to help children develop into proper adults; only to realize the error of her ways when she experiences her gifts first-hand.

I don't think it was as simple as her saying the words "I will not obey" because we see in the early year montage that she was defiant with her mother and yet that didn't help. I think it was more so finding inner strength to fight out the curse. Connects to the mother saying on her deathbed 'what's inside you is stronger than any spell"

I’m finna be that girl. Yep, the one who read the book. Both the book and the movie are timeless classics to me but the book really explains Ella’s gift like she can refuse a request but not a command so when Char says “I wish you would stay” he gave her a choice which she hadn’t before. Also the way she breaks the curse is different but I like how they made it dramatic in the movie.

I think I was like 10 when this first movie came out maybe younger I remember the first time I watched it and it was like the greatest movie ever made for a whole year LOL

So when Ella and the Prince are going to kiss and you were all “please don’t, please please. N”......the NO was cut off by an ad breaking in.....for a Dial Clean & Gentle Body Wash 😂😂😂😂 It was too perfect.

Ella Enchanted was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. Ella is so badass and funny in the book and the ending is a million times better. The movie absolutely broke my heart with how different it was. It’s like the screen writer just read the back of the book and then wrote the script while high (is that too harsh? Lol). I like the movie if I completely separate it in my mind from the book. But they should really remake the movie.

I was 7 when this came out, I remember getting it as a blockbuster movie and falling in love with it. It's such an underrated film I feel like not enough people talk about it. But it's truly a amazing way of telling the story of Cinderella and it's a way it's never been done before or truly really after.

I find it a bit weird that fairies doesn't have wings in this movie. Maybe they are invisible, that could explain why we never saw them :) This movie is a good version of Cinderella if the heroine was cursed. I like it! Charming characters, pretty music, good special effects, romance, action, magic. It's a fun adventure with a good moral too! I consider it as a classic.

Recommending Les miserables from 2012. Yes it is a musical. One of my favorite books though and so beautifully done. Anne Hathaway’s roll as Fantine was heart wrenching. Huge Jackman as Jean ValJean so powerful.

You pointed out that the giants would have had to been broken down mentally in order to be enslaved…. And I think that parallels Ella… having the curse since she was such a young child that was her norm. She wouldn’t have through she could break it herself and seeks help from an outside source. When she finds Lucinda who refuses to help, Lucinda also revealed to her that she herself has to fix it, no one externally could do that for her.
