I watched the weirdest deleted scene ever.. 

The fact that Ratts Tyerell died screaming as his family watched is actually pretty sad. His son later tried to expose the dangers of pod racing eventually founding the Ratts Tyerell Foundation in his father's honor.

I like it how he sees a random child and goes to immediately run him over

I'll honestly be pissed if podracing doesn't make at least a cameo in Book of Boba Fett. Podracing and Darth Maul were the two best elements to come out of the Phantom Menace.

Actually, Force-users don't take fall damage, so Maul would have been fine regardless.

I actually would have liked to see the deleted scene where little Ani beats up his friend. I'm really big on him being a troubled child (who wouldn't be troubled if they lived a life like Anakin on Tatooine?) outwardly, like here, beating your friend up because they said you cheated. I think it would have been better because we'd be able to see Anakin's darkness early on even before he slaughtered the Tuskens.

I made jokes about the Roidian kid in Phantom Menace being Greedo but it's amazing that I was actually right XD

9:39 This guy actually still exists in Star Wars canon. His name is Bail Antilles. Antilles is like the Alderaanian version of the surname Smith. It's very common. There was also an Antilles royal family. Like, imagine if Queen Elizabeth's last name was Smith instead of "of Windsor."

Greedo also appears in the Clone Wars. Imagine if he knew that the kid that he tried to bully and proceeded to beat him up became the Emperor's enforcer

In my head-canon Ben Solo is named after his grandpa's favorite podracer, Ben Quadrinaros. In Clone wars anakin has a Ben Quadrinaros poster in his bedroom.

The cgi wasn't all done when it was deleted. They finished it for the dvd.

In Legends, Ratts Tyrel died in the Podrace, and one of his children grew up to be an activist who endeavored to outlaw Podracing because of how dangerous it is. And the Empire actually did outlaw Podracing. It seems to still be outlawed in New Canon, if Tatooine Rhapsody is anything to go by; the band was playing at the disused Podrace track, after all (granted, I don't know if any of Visions is even canon). It'll be interesting to see how New Canon handles Podracing post-Phantom Menace. Like, would it be around in Book of Boba Fett?

I just watched the Phantom Meanance recently from a DVD my uncle got me in 2008 and I only realised now that the extended pod race beginning scene is in it as it would be a part of the film itself lol.

Seeing Ratz Tyrell's family is actually really sad when you know that he canonically dies in this race. There's a novel set between Episode 1 and 2 where Anakin joins forces with them for a rematch with Sebulba. He pilots the Tyrell pod against Sebulba's son in Anakin's old pod.

While I kind of like the version of the introduction of the racers that George put back in the film after the theatrical release (iirc), this version I feel goes on a little too long, making not only the main plot but even the subplot regarding the race and Qui-Gon winning Anakin come to a screeching halt. Although, it would have made the true consequences of podracing hit harder if that one alien guy's family watching him race, and ultimately watching him die, remained in the final film. I'm glad the Greedo scene was cut since it would have felt a little too much like George is trying to reference every little detail of the OT, and that dialogue in the subtitles is, as you said, too on-the-nose. But at the same time I like the idea of Anakin's temper tantrum having unintended consequences, leading Greedo to a life of crime. That woman in the deleted Senate scene having Princess Leia hair is fine since that would obviously just be a hairstyle on Alderaan, but at the same time it would have felt like the Greedo scene, trying to reference literally everything. That deleted droid scene feels a bit like R2-D2 and C-3PO when they were first introduced in Ep IV, but this still would have felt out of place since these particular droids never come back or have any impact on the story. So George made the right call in removing these scenes in the end.

I always wondered what happend to that scene of maul jumping on the ship. Because in a slideshow book of the movie the shots were still in there :p

If you follow the original theory that Jar Jar was in-fact the “phantom menace” and then you watch his hand wave force usage manipulating certain character actions, the theory fits.

I hated how for a while in star wars we never saw an alien race twice, every time we see new character or a new group of extras in the background its almost always some brand new, never before seen race, many of which we never saw again.

So recently after getting back into star wars i thought id rewatch the full movies again, and i watched phantom menace (used to be my fave, and now still is). and boy oh boy am i LIVID!!! What the fuck are people smoking when they say it sucked? The movie was perfectly fine, hell it wasnt just perfectly fine it was GOOD! Justice for the prequels i say! Anakin. Kill the prequel haters. To be fair if Qui-gonn trained him Anakin would probably have turned out a lot better.

That bit with Maul jumping onto the ramp is weird because when I watched Episode 1 after many years of having not watched it, I always had this weird feeling like I had seen the fight play out like that - Maul jumping up and qui gon having to force him off. Maybe I just watched a deleted scene when I first got the VHS or something...But then again VHS didn't tend to have those sorts of things. Very strange.

Adrian Dunbars character is technically still apart of Star Wars as Bail Antilles even though the scene was cut.
