You are the reason that I have learned how to do drywall finishing. Watching your videos over then last 5-6 years has taught me so much and gave me the courage to try it out. Now I have finished and entire basement on my own. My contractor said I must have hire oit someone else because it looks like a pro finished it. 900 foot basement. 3 rooms and a bathroom.

Great stories. I worked structural concrete for 17 years in BelAir thru Hollywood Hills thru Beverly Hills and other high end neighborhoods. In the '08 crash I sat home for almost 2 years looking for work. A friend of mine told me his brother in law remodeled bath and kitchens. Was looking for someone with some skills. Ive done plumbing and paint before i settled in concrete. Long story short I kind of enjoyed the drywall thing. Turns out I learned more from your channel than I did working for him for 5 years. Transitioning from the office to the trades 20 years ago, I've long since lost any special snowflake sensitivity I may have once had. Always awesome to hear about folks backgrounds! There's so much amazing information out there, and all you need is enough knowledge to know how to tell the good from the bad. As for your minivan... I can't even be angry! I recently quit my employer and struck out on my own, and I'm currently working out of a 2004 Jaguar S-Type, because I have it, it's paid for, and my equipment fits! I've known so many people that do that, and in a forever-rainy place like Vancouver, honestly I think I'd stick with a minivan just to keep everything out of the rain! ;)

Not on the outside 3 ways. I've never had a crack there. I often try to fill that spot with taping mud nice and full first. I do put them over beads where they meet at 90 though. You know that half inch square void. That always cracks without a tape bridging it.

If you can see the tape, there's not enough mud works for paper tape, but fibafuse has a weird texture as the mud sets, and it needs the second coat to cover properly. After using it for a while (not fibatape mesh tape, fibaFUSE), I really really don't like paper tape anymore. It's not as strong, yet harder to cut, it's thicker, needs more mud to cover, and it's much much weaker a joiner than a fiberglass weave. Again, not mesh, it's a whole different product. You could build a boat with fibafuse.

Currently watching the video, not done yet but see some hints to a shit bucket. I'm an electrician and I was helping a guy finish a house once and he was in the mechanical room tying in the panel. I was installing the last of the devices in the feild. I asked him what that smell was in the room and he said he didn't know either. He started sniffing around and literally it led to a mud bucket with a lid on. It was labeled "shit bucket do not open," and it was left in the mechanical room... I have no words... What kinda base minded neanderthal not only leaves it, but LABELS IT! Typing this I automatically start laughing as the guy was so upset, like so upset!! Took the bucket upstairs and threw it off the deck into the coulee. And just cursing his face off. So funny thinking back now

That said if I'm not the drywaller I find it maddening when it's like they spread mud all over the floor. There is no excuse in my opinion and experience for not keeping the floors clean. Interesting video topic: When I tape I immediately apply a first coat over it. Yes, including corner beads. I was taught to do this as a bit of insurance against having blisters (which is absolutely true), but I've also come to appreciate that it fast forwards the coating process. It does make taping more time consuming, but I think the lack of blisters and omission dry time before a first coat make it very worthwhile. Does anyone else out there do this? Is anyone out there interested in making a RU-vid video examining the pros and cons of this?
@vancouvercarpenter
@vancouvercarpenter Месяц назад
I've already covered this. Blisters come from a lack of moisture under the tape. I make my mud super runny when taping. This was a 100 sheet job. Zero blisters. Zero coating on taping day. Adding moisture on top is not the answer. Keep it wetter under the tape while taping and you will solve the problem forever.
