Does anyone else wonder how "American Idol" can ever top this season? We all just witnessed a phenomenon, that had the whole world watching. This also goes to show how much this world is missing empathy, love and compassion to name a few. What Iam has done through his music is what most musicians only can dream of happening in their whole career. I mean people cant stop crying no matter how many times they watch/listen to Monsters, especially men. I seriously was going to see if the stock in Kleenex has gone up! LOL! Now it's up to all of us to follow his career and buy/listen to whatever music he produces. He's got this!
Glad I watched this season...as a Polynesian I truly was only watching bc of Iam but mannnn did I enjoy this one...talent all over the place but seriously Iam touched hearts and it was crazy...
I don't think there will be a season like this season in AI history....this season was not AI but it was a Global Idol coz people from all over the world were watching....Iam is so special and i'm glad he won.

That kiss did me in..I about hit the floor. It was beautiful and so sincere. There was nothing fake or staged about that performance. Then to see his mother start crying and Jelly Roll putting his arm around her as Katy Perry was losing it.Oh how does anyone not lose it? This will be history no doubt. My nieces and nephews are Samoan and they literally fell apart and have been since day one. It is a phenomenon without question!
Iam said in his interview that he told himself not to cry and he'll be alright through out the song but when he heard James voice and suddenly he couldn't hold back his tears and his emotions. This song were meant for this moment and for James and Iam and for all of us who lost our dads 😢 what a beautiful moment i've witnessed 💖💖
This really got to me. That was so deep and emotionally transformative. I have never seen something like that on TV. Loss is real and James wrote that song for his father and they Iam barely was able to finish and James powered through the song and then offered a hand to his shoulder to bring Iam back so they could try to finish. Wow, both were both so emotional and that is hard to carry through when one is that emo because the vocals shut down and start quiver. James Blunt really saved him with that partnership and took over... just that look at James... poor baby was overwhelmed with a superstar, in front of millions of people, and then in the final part of his time on American Idol... the pressure for sure. Poor baby... only 18... daddy just died 2 months prior.
I feel like something not a lot of people have talked about is how the crowd backed Iam when he started to falter. They got so support inept loud. It's obvious he's Americas sweetheart. And James Blunt is a Master Class in Humanity.

I think this song touches every body and every one can connect…but I think it’s hits a little differently for those who lost their father. I lost my dad in 2016, he was only 48. But I felt like this song and how they deliver it brings me sadness & comfort all in one..I’ve never been the type to cry..I watch his audition once a day, and I cry every single time..great reaction, sorry for the loss of your father
Ive followed most seasons of american idol, im a huge james blunt fan and this is without doubt the greatest moment in american idol history. I keep watching it and cry every time, pure class from james blunt , pure emotion from iam, loved every second. ❤

When I saw Iam doing this song for auditions I said to myself if he makes the finals (which I was already expecting) American Idol was going to get him doing a duet with Blunt of this song and destroy us even more... I was right... and I was also right that it was going to bring even more tears

Love your response and analysis. It is so true, the full circle for Iam and now standing there with James Blunt, man, what a moment. I bet Iam was overcome with emotions that of all the cheers in the crowd and around the world he was wishing to hear his dad's voice most of all.
That intro had me tearing up before the song even started. This whole performance is as heartbreaking as it is beautiful. They are two men on that stage who have lost their dads and the support James Blunt offers Iam is so genuine. Even though James' dad survived, Both their fathers were on the stage that night in spirit. Also, props to Jelly Roll for supporting Iam's mom in the crowd.

James Blunt I understand heard if IAM’s audition and reached out to him early on to Thank IAM for bring the attention to his Song. I was so moved by James Blunts voice (he sounded like he was weeping, know wonder IAM broke down) cause I couldn’t hold back my own sob at the moment he put his hand in IAM’s arm. That big tight hug felt so good, I could feel the love & empathy James feels for IAM. So Many people lost it (including Katy Perry who didn’t cry at the audition).
I'm from Hawaii (born & raised) and we - I - love Iam, and we - I - am so proud of him. But, Jame's support broke me hard, in this one. Iam got thru this performance because James was there for him. I appreciate that. I have been listening to James' original version since I found Iam on American Idol. The wierd thing is, I gave up on AI so long ago, and for some reason, I decided to watch this season. I saw it pop up on Hulu, and I told myself 'maybe I'll watch this one', not knowing anything about this boy. I am so grateful that I did. Way to make us proud Iam. Thank you for your own vulnerbility and emotional reactions towards Iam Tongi and James Blunt. We go through heartaches when our loved ones passed on. Ive lost my dad and two sisters. It still hurts and Iams version of this song on his audition got me in tears and now hearing James Blunt and Iam together is so hard to not cry. It hits deep in the soul. God bless them both.❤😊

I think the whole audience was singing. Some people said there were backup singers but I think it was the audience. Just heart wrenching and their hug was genuine in the end. ❤
This song hits deep I lost my Dad when I was 22 and it was really hard on me. Expecally since I had to arrange his funeral by my self. Like you said it's something you never get over but you learn to deal with it. My wife who also lost both of her parents also like I did told me that you did not lose them but you just lost their tent that God let them use while they was here. And that helped me a lot. The best American Idols ever in history! Sorry for your loss Travis I know it's not easy lost my mum two years ago and I cried when I listen to this song and I know millions of people were too..this song can relate to anyone in your family but losing a mother it's even more painful.

He is at #1 on ITunes day after the finale. USA top 100 all genres. He has other songs charting too. I have watched Idol since the beginning. I think this is top performance ever on the show.
I lost my father at 17 in 12th grade. He passed away while I was trying to get him to the hospital for chest pains. He passed holding my hand. 2 years later I lost my mom who I am quite sure died of a broken heart. Not a day goes by that I don't think of them, see them in my mind and wish more than anything that I could have one more moment to hug them both so very very very hard and let them see the man I turned out to be. The few years we had they instilled some awesomely strick values that helped me get through my life being without them or grandparents. Aunts and Uncles were a blessing in my life. This kid and that song brought back some tears that memories tend to produce at times. After 50 years it is a bit easier but it isn't less frequent. Tears abound on birthdays/christmas/mom and dad day etc. God bless that boy and hold him close and in peace.
Thanks to Iam Tongi on American Idol I never would have heard this song. My dad passed 3wks ago May 4th 2023 an im bawling. My husband found this song yesterday and I feel this was a sign from my dad to not worry, he is ok. RIP DAD 2-10-56 - 5-4-23
