What is the purpose of melting down the legit coins? Even if they’re not commanding a premium, wouldn’t they still hold at least some small amount of numismatic value over even a generic bullion round?
That seems crazy to melt all the Centanarios & modern coins/bars. Very cool & interesting work! Hey Dave, do you ever sell gold chains on the Facebook groups? Thx
I really hope mine are not fake. Do you melt or do anything for people that are willing to pay you to melt their gold down into homemade gold bars?? Even if its crude I would be interested. Also do you buy scrap silver and other metals??.
Great video. Just wondering why they’d put more gold in than a normal coin. That doesn’t seem to make much sense. Do you think the online retailers are able to detect or do they scan for fakes? A couple of them looked pretty good and couple probably fool most people. Thanks for sharing.
That is a good question! The reason being is when they were made gold was $35 an oz. And. As such. Most of these sold at premiums of 2-3 times the gold value. So the manufacturer didn't really care as they were making some pretty disgusting profits from making them. Most of these were made in the middle East in the 50s and 60s. Many were manufactured for use in jewelry too. A high mark up item. So it would seem the precentage point nor two didn't matter. 22k jewelry being a readily available alloy for manufacturing use. And explains the trace of silver. Thank you for the good question!
