I also love how the imposters relationship with Starline parallels Metal Sonic's relationship with Eggman. The imposters are disobedient and free thinking living creatures taking orders from an organized and clever leader. While Metal is an order following and obedient robot taking orders from a chaotic egomaniac. I've also noticed that while Starline sees Kit and Surge as nothing more than creatures meant to serve a single purpose, Eggman sees Metal as some kind of son. I wonder if this was intentional.
Well I guess we have Scourge's spiritual successor in Surge 1. Green 2. Big Ego 3. Love of destruction & chaos 4. Hate authority and go by their own rules.
I’m really enjoying Starline as a villain. His constant analysis of the situation seems to give him a great deal of self-awareness, as he constantly criticizes himself throughout Bad Guys, but he still seems to not quite realize the depths of his flaws. I want to see him nearly succeed at his grand plans, just to have the rug pulled out from under him at the last moment.
Impressed to see the massive hype these two generated, and I love how they look and behave, they will become fan favourites for sure. And yes, we will have more Surge and Kit references, in Issue 48 the Chaotix will investigate what happened in Central City (the accidents made by Surge and Kit)
Knuckles: "Hey, where's MY clone? What, I'm not good enough to clone?!" Starline: "Well, I did TRY to make a clone of you, but I got a cease and desist from some 'Pen Kenders' fellow and, well, it just wasn't worth the headache."
Personally, i think Starline’s plan is not bad, however his method to go about fulfilling it I can see has a lot of flaws and has a lot of ways for it go wrong, factors that i don’t think Starline has taken to full consideration.
Man I can’t wait for more of these characters. I never get tired of “evil clones” or copies from another world. And the Characterization was an awesome part. Surge being so brutal to Kit is a lot like how I’ve heard some fans write Sonic to Tails, only times 10 in a dark way. Given they’re resisting the hypnosis a bit, I imagine they’ll eventually question Starline themselves, but I think they’ll still work with him after the miniseries. Only time will tell. Can’t wait to see them meet the main duo. Sonic should probably make a faker joke too.
Plus, Starline has no powers or the ability to be better than Eggman. He hasn’t fought Sonic long enough to understand his weaknesses. Also, I bet when Eggman realizes that Starline is trying to remove him from the Equation, Eggman (being a og mastermind he is) he will remove Starline not just from the Equation, but also from existence
You know surge is kinda like scourge brash, rude, aggressive, overconfident, and hate being told what to do. But kid on the other hand is quiet, shy, prefer the safe route, hesitant, and friendly-ish (you know being a villain in the idw comics) , and slow (and I do mean that in a rude way)
I wanted to touch up on Kitsunami, at this point, he’s become very similar to Tails’, at least in terms of in Sonic Adventure, he’s shy, withdrawn, and dependent on his “”friend.”” Unlike Sonic though, Surge has been very cruel to Kit. She leaves him behind on the course, forces him to do the dirty work at the camp, and verbally abuses him at Sigma base. And seeing as Tails’ grew to not be as dependent on Sonic in Sonic Adventure, along with some concept art and how he seems to have Tails’ IQ of 300, I’m getting a strong feeling Kit will snap and turn on Surge. What that means for the future, I don’t know.
I don't really thing Kit snapping of Surge can happen given that he has a near limitless care for Surge that he can't explain him self because it was hard coded into his personality by Starline.

@@chaosbuster1275 The thing is that they may not be ''glitching'' in the true meaning of the word, instead, it's a way of showing how lacking Starline's wisdom is. He has created living beings who can thing for themselves, having the ability to grow as people since their creation, so it would should've been obvious they would be questionion their ''enhancements''.

The way Starline hypnotizes Surge and Kit reminds me of the Archie's sonic comic character Wendy Naugus, and how she used her magic to control her underlings the Witch-carters.
This issue was fun to read. Immediately fell in love with the surge and kit's personalities, and was sold about their dynamics between themselves and starline. You can literally see that the writer had FUN writing them.
I can see Surge becoming more like Scourge the Hedgehog from the Archie Sonic Comics. Both are green (in later depictions, Scourge was green after Locke punched him as Scourge was absorbing the Master Emerald), evil, devious, and their desire to destroy Sonic.
I've noted this many times before, but Surge just reminds me of Caulifla and/or Kefla from Dragon Ball Super. The relationship between her and Kit also kind of reminds me of the other IMPORTANT Universe 6 Saiyans, Cabba and Kale though sort of vaguely after getting a full picture.
Interesting fact about the "Ashura" glitch, depending on how many waterfalls are placed in Emerald Hill determines much memory will overflow into the color palette memory determines how mess up Sonic's color palette gets. Sometimes the color palette for Sonic will be similar to what's seen in screenshots and videos for the glitch, other times you get Scourge without the jacket, boots, chest scars and sunglasses (I'm not joking when I say that.) Although if you go Super and then have the rings run out Sonic's palette will be somewhat restored but he'll still have the blue eyes from the glitch.
I have a feeling the glitch trio will become the glitch duo once the AI self awareness kicks in full like with portals glados and metroids mother brain and MB. As we all know computers that become self aware go rouge and turn on there creaters which is probably what haopponed to neo metal sonic if you think about it that is until eggman put a lid on metals self awareness for good this time or so we think.
Ian Flynn wasn’t kidding when he said ages ago there would be IDW Sonic characters inspired by Archie Sonic characters, IDW Sonic may be in line with the games and observed by Sonic Team with input from SEGA of Japan, but its not enough to stop the IDW crew’s efforts to keep the legacy and spirit of the old comic alive while showing the Sonic material respect. May Surge keep proving to be a worthy successor to Scourge just as Starline is a worthy successor to Finetivus and Zachary. IDW Sonic = Archie Sonic: Respectable and awesome. 4:41 Something I didn't notice until my second time reading, but the traffic accidents were likely caused by Kit. In the full panel, all the lights are green, implying Kit went through with his plan to mess with the traffic lights. There's no sign of Surge in the panel either. Just a fun little detail I don't see many people discuss.
The thing is: Starline believes that he will solve the world’s problems by get ridding Eggman and Sonic in doing so, creating the world in his own image. There is a lot of errors and flaws within his plans, especially when Surge and kit are questioning their purpose of being here. Plus they haven’t met sonic and questioning on if they should destroy him or not since Sonic didn’t do anything to them and what reasoning they should, when they don’t. I’m hoping that Starline either one, killed off so he doesn’t become a modern verison of Eggman (expect he still loses a battle and lots explicit errors within his own plans and logic) or he’ll be imprison for good and we don’t see him again and we will have Surge and kit on Team Sonic
Surge: I'm as fast as lightning. Sonic/Shadow/Scourge: That's adorable. I'm assuming that she likely thinks she'd be better than Sonic purely due their names. If so, she is getting steamrolled by Sonic and especially Shadow.
Starline already f*cked it up. He's treating them more like machines than living beings he created. Also, he seems to have screwed up programming them with complete loyalty towards him. And why programm them with a weakness for which you require a specific device, instead of something like, I dunno, your voice? I can already see him losing control over them. But since he is willing to learn, I do hope he'll create more clones, maybe of other characters, who lack these rather obvious flaws in the future.
That's what I think is gonna happen too. He'll probably make tons of more based off of sonics friends meaning we can possibly see a android based off knuckles or shadow

Surge and Kit make for a good Speed and skill duo but I think Starline should consider adding a strength based member to their team. Sonic and Tails have Knuckles to relay on when it counts. Starline thus far has worked best as a mastermind working from the shadows, plus a new member could also serve as a bodyguard for Starline. Perhaps we'll see Starline think about this idea in the coming issues.
Thing is, Starline himself already represents the Wechnia glitch which is the most notable Knuckles glitch from this era, so we‘re probably not gonna get another character based on that. That being said, it could be interesting to see Surge and Kit encounter the real Knuckles and try to convince him to join their team. Heck, since this comic is so prone to giving characters amnesia, why not continue that trend and have Knuckles team up with them for a while because of that? Probably not gonna happen, but I would like to see some interaction between these three.
@@rainpooper7088 Well Starline was only on Angel Island for a short time before Eggman snatched the Warp Topaz from him, tossing him through the last portal he made with it. So as far as we know Starline hasn't had chance to properly examine the Master Emerald and any other secrets Angel Island holds. Having Surge and Kit fight/distract Knuckles would give him that opportunity, It would just be a matter of Starline arranging some transport to the flying Island to do so.
Maybe it's just me, but it looks like Ian took some minor inspiration from Android 17 & 18 from Dragonball Z seeing that Surge and Kit are brother/sister biomechanical creations.

It seems that both Surge and Kit had preexisting personalities, so they might have been normal people that either Starline or Eggman kidnapped. I wonder if they ever realize their true personalities and they used to be completely different. Surge could have been a passive, flower shop type girl, and Kit could have been a playful, mischievous boy. They no longer recognize their past selves and become enraged with Starline. Would be pretty tragic to see.
It is a good story, but I find it rather clear that Surge and Kit are Starline’s creations, similar to Shadow. He only uses his powers to keep them under raps despite having been born with the negative personalities of Sonic and Tails.
Starline, as much a magnificent b*stard he is for gaslighting his creations, is becoming The Starscream to Eggman's Megatron (As I feared post Bad Guys) As for my thoughts so far on the newly introduced Surge and Kit, I love their designs and personalities acting as counterbalances to each other. Plus, the series needed more villains for the roster, and it is a plus that we have a female villain this time around. Edginess doesn't hurt either. However, I do think Starline is right that there is a Status Quo that is in dire need of a change, but how he plans to change that dynamic is one that is gonna be tricky, if not impossible. But, considering his smaller victories, it is going to be a lot more than he can handle. He failed to "accidentally kill " Sonic's support group, and couldn't destroy any progress Tails may have made. Also, in regards to Surge and Kit, they were inadvertantly given "souls" with Belle's programming, and are sapient enough to realize that their is a serious problem with what they have been hardcoded to do. Starline gaslighting them after hypnotizing them when they fall out of line is especially cruel. I expect them to defect at some point, especially since they may develop an immunity to it post Issue 50, if they make it that far.

I wouldn't assume Surge and Kit have souls as souls in the Sonic the hedgehog universe are a real tangible thing that came up in both Story book games, 06, Shadow and Sonic battle with Sonic battle explaining that Gerald created artificial souls based on Maria for Shadow and Emerl.
@@rynobehnke8289 Fair point, yet the rough approximation of a soul can be hardcoded into any machine. Especially for lesser bots like badniks or sapient androids like Surge and Kit if made with the same compassion and love for the craft. This was demonstrated by Mr. Tinker, and reaffirmed by Belle. However, the difference between the Starline and Eggman is that Starline is needlessly cruel to his creations that are carrying out his orders, where Eggman, even as Mr. Tinker, still had *some* love for his creations, especially when you look at Belle or Metal Sonic.
Correction, SEGA technical still owns the rights to Scourge, but are unable to use him without Penders again with his bullshit lawsuit. Penders seriously needs to let it go. Just because you made a character under a company doesn't mean you own said character. This is just him trying to rob SEGA

The first two tests are automatically precursors and set-ups for foreshadowing events, the first one being the kick starter for the on-going saga with the girls and when Surge and Kit mess with the city's water and electricity, it's foreshadowing the upcoming Chaotix story in issue 48.
I feel like a very important oversight Starline made when creating these two was the same mistakes Eggman makes with a lot of his robots: They have free will. These two are *free thinking* and while they do have primary objectives, those objectives don't exactly line up with serving Starline. I think Surge and Kitsunami will eventually leave Starline, but I can't see them becoming straight up heroes anytime soon (At least that's the case with Surge.) Now this is super fan-canon theory territory, but I'd love it if Surge and Kit eventually went to serve Eggman. Eggman wouldn't stop Surge's desire to go pummel Sonic ASAP, and he'd probably encourage it. I can maybe see Surge liking (or at least tolerating) Eggman a bit more than Starline.
I mean they kinda have to be free thinking for his plan to have any change of working as completely controlled machines properly wouldn't make for the best Heroes there is a reason Superman is the face of Super-heroics and not Red Tornado. But I guess even than did he clearly make Surge to EDGY.
Im seeing a lot of similarities to DBZ here. Dr.Gero trying to keep the androids under control like Starline is struggling to do. I think eventually Surge and Kit will turn on Starline and break free like Androids 17 and 18 did. I also see a bit of 17 in Surge. She wants to destroy Sonic like 17 wanted to destroy Goku. SEGA always takes inspiration from Dragon Ball.
I swear, by the end of this story arc. We are going to have something that’s the sonic idw version of the Scourge’s Suppression squad after credits for Surge and Kits
6:20 i think their program is faulty because Starline use the Ai from Belle, what is fully center in emotions rather to a classic fullfill mision, like Metal Sonic or Omega(reason both are that obsesive with their task, they know they want it because are programed to it but at the same time they don't care). In contrast Belle appears to have a mision or task to fullfill at all. She was her asistent/Daughther as Tinker and is equiped to build and repair, but she ever refer to these as something she is good at doing rather as her life propource. Starline mixed the 2 concept(to complete opposites, emotinals side clash with cold logic ) and it gonna backfire. For the good side, even if the 2 become real heroes, Surge gonna challenge and fight Sonic again and again as her "reason", rather need to do so is "Instintive" PD: that what like to Belle concept is what Eggman can do with robotics when he is not building a killing machine
since surge and kit seem to be pretty tragic characters without much choice in their villainy, i hope we'll get to see a truly irredeemable and evil female villain sometime in the future while these poor kids maybe defect and become more of a neutral party.
I'm expecting the Glitch Clones to turn on Starline at some point, and ally themselves with sonic and his friends, maybe even develope sibling like bonds with there respective genetic donors, the cover for the comic actually gives off the feel of Surge and Sonic developing a rivalry, the friendly kind, and I'd like the idea of them becoming like siblings
Is Surge a clone or a mix of flesh and blood? Surge reminds me of Scourge who was Sonic's rival in terms of colour palette and personality. Is she replacing him? I don't mind although I'm not as sure about her or the Kit.
Surge is more of a middle finger to Ken Pender due to Ken owns the character of Scourge, so Ian would make his own but different from Penders being a just a Evil Sonic, Surge would be her own characters.
I know what I might say now is pretty much a fanfic idea from me but I hope we get a storyline about a Badnik who is the antithesis of Belle the Tinkerer. In my story this Badnik was a robot who worked in the factories who both produced new Badniks, repair damaged ones, and dismantle the Badniks that had been destroyed by Sonic and his friends. After constantly having to dismantle his fellow Badniks due to them always being destroyed by Sonic he finally snaps and gains sentience. Unlike Belle who was born through love, he was born through his hatred of Sonic and unlike the Surge and Kit who are programed to hate Sonic, his hatred is personal due to the sorrow he feels seeing millions of Badniks perishing at the hands of the heroes. He desires to create a great nation for Badniks with Eggman as their emperor and to do this he will use chaos energy and the millions of former Badnik hardware to create a population of intelligent sentient Badniks (and since they are made from the hardware previously destroyed Badniks, they all share the same hatred of Sonic). With this he hopes to create a world where Badniks are on equal footing with organic beings and will put Sonic in his place since Sonic and his friends will not be fighting one villain, or a team or even a horde; but an entire nation.
We are getting bio-androids now? thats cool Also i feel that two things could happen to those two either Kit snap from all that abuse a use its power to kill Surge or they will be like the androids from dbz i don't think they will be able to kill Starline but they will eventually be free from his influence and then they will chose what they will do either they just go adventure in the world or they will join Sonic's team, and Surge will start treating Kit in a much kindlly way and Kit will become far confident in himself and enjoy her company.

I loved this first issue. Although I'm confused about something: what are exactly Surge and Kit, robots, androids? The way they look so "human" kinda reminds me of Androids 16, 17 & 18 from Dragon Ball Z. I'm getting a strange feeling that they'll rebel against Starline and become independent, although evil. The dynamic between Surge and Kitsunami feels like a relationship between a young and shy brother and a brash, frontal and fearless sister; together they will become a great tag team. Just for fun, who would you think could win in a Fatal-4-Way Tag Battle? Sonic & Tails, Rough & Tumble, Tangle & Whisper, or Surge & Kitsunami?
I can definitely see the resemblance to the glitch characters for Surge and Kit but I had no clue that starline is based on the glitch character from Knuckles' chaotix.
Apparently I looked it up about this legal mess with Scourge, and apparently, Scourge was included in The Scrapped Third Best Of Sonic Novel. This is what I found out according to the Sonic News Network Website. “Scourge was originally believed to have been removed from the comics due to the Super Genesis Wave; this was contradicted when Scourge appeared on the cover of Best of Sonic the Hedgehog Rivals. However, a CG model of Scourge that was made to be used on a cover was later cancelled.” So, did Sega had the rights to use Scourge? I don’t know
I believe that Surge and Kit can be the good guys and heroes 😃. Anything could happen 🤔. They were starting to question if they would kick Sonic's butt 🤔. They were showing some self doubts. And they haven't met Sonic yet 🤔. But it'll be great to see him be good and kick Dr. Starline's feathered butt😠. He'll be like Donald Duck he'll be quacking in severe pain and agony 😃😠. But yeah I believe Surge and Kit can or will be heroes 😃. They probably might have a character arc 😃🤔. I'm still going to keep on believing and hoping 😃😄🤩!

I'm still unsure about what Surge and Kit really are. Are they clones? Androids? To me, I personally believe they're something like shadow. They're completely biological, but were made in a test tube. However, the one wrinkle in this idea is that the comic mentions that they have "glitches", much like a machine would. So, are they like cyborgs or something, I'm not too sure.
They're most likely actually artificial beings,they just have certain things "programmed" in like their personalities and base memory. Keep in mind starline always uses computer terms for anyone he talks about usually
I am very much looking forward to Eggman squashing Starline's little pet project. Starline is an arrogant buffoon that thinks he is way more capable than he actually is, and after he gets squashed I hope that he lays low for a very long while because I really don't care for the character. Also it is kinda ironic that he wants to break the cycle (even though it truly is another control motive) when he is the one who restarted the cycle.
