These videos are proof that Metallica still writes just as good of songs as they did when they were in their 20's. It's just the production that is to blame.
Blame? The production of HTSD is amazing. I wouldn't want to listen to the same album all over again. This version is interesting, but I prefer the original. The only album with a horrible sound was St. Anger (but that album didn't even have good songs) and Death Magnetic had its problems, but it wasn't that bad.
FixxxerZ7 Guitars have no color to them. They're too thin/ too low of gain, the mid is turned up too high when it should be scooped, the treble is too high, and too much presence. Drums are fine, but sometimes a little bit too loud. Bass is nearly non-existing, which would be kinda okay if James layered guitars like their old albums to fill that void. Nothing really blends together and sounds smooth. I'm not saying it has to be an exact copy of the black album production or any of that. It would just be nice to have a polished result, which HTSD has come closer to than Death Magnetic, but still hasn't quite hit. I don't want to hear the same album either, I just want... I expect one of the biggest bands in the world to have the best sound engineers employed. I don't think it's too much to ask. I love this album, but the sound has me still desiring more.
deanml116 The snare sound on the new album is fucking obnoxious, sampled and triggered beyond recognition. Doesn't sound natural, especially during the singel stroke rolls.
I agree, the Hardwired tone is awful. It's so scratchy and boxy, and it kills James Hetfield's great riffs by being so dull and dead. The Black Album tone would have been so much better.
nico borie is a guy who recently upload a video called "james hetfield singing holy wars" or something like that. In the video, the guy sing exactly like the hetfield of 1989. It's amazing, and i think that guitar razze must contact whit him to do something together
matias he sings awesomely, but he does NOT sound like James and he tries to sing like James and fails, his Dave Mustaine vocals were quite spot on on some of the songs :D.
IIIRattleHeadIII in my humble opinion, his vocals have some of the james's colour, you know what i mean. I recognize so much his job cuz it's the only that has the james's colour (like i said)
Please do Moth into flame with Master of Puppets sound, Kill em All instruments, Bob Rock as a producer, Newsted on bass and Phil Towle coaching the band.
AcePhoenix007 that song is legitimately the closest they have ever gotten to writing a song that would fit in ...And Justice For All. would love to hear the actual production to match
Lobo Diseña Locura my apocalypse was very straight forward, almost ride the lightning or kill em all esque. that was just your life had all the twists, turns, riffage, harmony et al that a justice song would normally have.
Honestly, i think it's better than of wolf and man. I don't see the similarities. Dream No more and of wolf and man seem like subpar songs compared to their respective albums.
Ivan Matias Isasi Astigarraga actually, I think here comes revenge reminds me of Of Wolf and Man. I don't know if it's because of the music video or not, but that's just what it's me when I hear it.
There's a lot of people doing these what if ...... was on ..... but you are truly the the only guy who gets it to sound 100 per cent like it's actually from the album you say. And for this I take my hat off to you sir. Keep up the amazing work. \m/ \m/
It sounds like what would have happened if James Hetfield released an album with Black Sabbath with the style of Load and The Thing That Should Not Be x Sad But True
The whole album sounds like it should have come out between the Black Album and Load/Reload. A bunch of songs have the Load/Reload style, if not completely then in parts.
bro you seriously have talent, please for the love of god go to an sound engineering school, get that degree and become a fine producer in music and make a name for your self in the music world because you really have talent, more talent then metallica's current producers i tell you that much
You don't need to do any sort of sound engineering course to become a producer or an engineer (two different jobs I might add). You just need ti get good results.
There is a serious Black Album vibe and feel to the original- it reminded me of something like "Of wolf and Man"- and this masterful recording of it rings it out more. Yet another brilliant rendition, mate!! Excellent stuff. And as far as requests go- well, I personally would love to hear either "That was just your Life" or "My Apocalypse" with the Justice tone. Either way, this is fantastic. Love the new album, and this is another brilliant addition to yer hopefully growing collection of recordings.
Your tones always sound so flawless, plus I like your variations with solos according to each album. Fantastic! What would make these even more exceptional is adding vocals, just like your Spit Out the Bone collab!
Once again, excellent job man :) The guitar tones of the first 5 Metallica albums are all epic...Nice job in knowing which new songs need which tone..keep up the great work man..thank you dude :)
The tones suck, so it won't make a difference. The guitar tone they use now would not have the teeth that the songs on KEA and RTL need to be effective as studio tracks.
If they omitted the palm muted chugs (which they avoided liked the plague on the black album) this would sound closer. I'm glad they brought the classic chugging back in Hardwired. Good vid. Thanks for taking the time to produce.
I'm seriously amazed by how you were able to mix this and make it sound like the actual black album. It took them months trying shit to get this sound and you did it at home with plugins and stuff. fuckin hell dude hahaha
Tom Steel that's what I said...? Perhaps I wasn't clear, I think he did a great job replicating the black album tone but I think the track itself sounds better as it is on Hardwired.
Tom Steel They actually only spent a few weeks getting the guitar tone for the black album. If it would have taken months then the album would have never been done considering they would have to still have gotten the drum, lead guitar, bass, and vocal tone too.
1:30 Either it just fits so well in my head or I didn't pick it up for the six years and there is a subtle easter egg - famous bass crack from Wherever I May Roam.
