I agree with all of them except 1978. You say it's the weakest year but forgot to mention George Gervin, who absoultely lit the scoring stats along with the late David Thompson. Honestly, I'm giving it to Gervin instead of Kareem or Walton because Gervin had a great year and played in all 82 games unlike the two big men. Also, I said in the 1980's video if Dr. J win a MVP in the 1970's, I'll give Kareem the 1981 MVP. He did not, so I'm sticking with my last comment from that video. See you for the 1960's.

Bob MacAdoo was amazing,i didn't get to see his prime. I saw him in his later years when he with the Lakers.

McAdoo was awesome. Sad the great players you don't hear much about because they were on crappy teams. I guess that does not happen as much now, but can you imagine if Oscar Robertson had a decent team around him. Him and Wilt together from 1962 on, for example, how many championships would they win?

thats why hes not close to beeing to GOAT and not close to be better than someone like Hakeem. Kareem is the greatest but not the best center. He won his MVPs in the weakest era of all time. 8 different teams won a ring in the 70s. 70s were destroyed by the ABA and cocaine, still Kareem couldnt win many rings in the 70s. He needed a superteam with the best PG of all time, James Worthy and a great supporting cast to win his rings, while he won almost all of his MVPs in the weak 70s. He actually won a MVP with a negative regular season record. And the funniest thing is: Kareem missed the playoffs the season after Oscar Robertson left his team. Its funny to me that people think the dude who couldnt win rings without an atleast top 3 pg in the league is the best center of all time. Hakeem is way better, everybody forgets about Hakeems 1986 finals run when he destroyed Kareem in the WCF. Kareem was also destroyed by Moses Malone in 1983. Kareem is in my opinion the most overrated player of all time he litteraly had no skills and couldnt win rings against Bill Walton as his toughest competiton. Imagine Shaq or Hakeem in the crach head 70s. At least 5 rings. In my opinion Giannis is already a better player than Kareem on both ends of the floor. If we ignore his weak rings and MVPs and just look at numbers, skill and take era into acount, Kareem isnt top 10 of all time and not a top 3 Center.

Moses has just over 40% of his rebounds being offensive. The only ones that come close are Rodman and Barkley at just under 35%. I can't find any record of this percentage this is something I have worked out.

@@Sf75178 Hey, that's really cool. Thanks for that man. That is weird that there isn't already a statistic which tells you what percentage of a player's rebounds are offensive or defensive. I'd also be curious as to what percentage of offensive rebounds by a player are "put backs", or a rebound and shot all in one motion, like tip-ins. I'd also be curious as to what percentage of offensive rebounds lead to immediate shots and scores from the rebounder. Because again, these are areas where Moses excelled above probably all other players, but we don't know without the stats. For my money, what you want in a center is a great defender and shot blocker, a great rebounder, especially offensive rebounder who can score the ball on most of his put backs, a high shooting percentage, especially over 50%, and these are all things that Moses excelled in. But on top of that, he also was a great free throw shooter, between 75-80%, and a great defender who was more than just a shot blocker, with between 1.5-3 steals per game, and he could run the fastbreak on offense AND defense. All these things combined with the fact that he was able to step his game up when it mattered most, the Playoffs and The Finals, have always put Moses high up on my GOAT list, especially the center list, where he is vastly underrated, which along with overrated, isn't a term I use very often.

@@augustgreig9420 Another really cool thing about Moses is that the way his body is positioned when it hits the ground after grabbing a rebound.When he's on the defensive side of the ball, after landing he immediately turns to pass or lands already turned and in motion to pass ASAP. Whereas on the offensive side he catches it and is almost always ready to go up as people are still trying to land. I don't even need stats for this, just look up any video of him playing and watch how he rebounds, its unbelievable and near perfect.

It could be argued as better since most are collected close enough to the basket for a possible put-back. Anything could happen after a steal, from an easy score to a steal by the other team. I had the privilege of living in Houston when Malone was with the Rockets from 1977-82. The term "offensive rebound" was unknown to the average fan until Moses starting grabbing as many as the entire opposing team sometimes. What's rarely noted is the size of his hands for a 6'10" man. They were so small he had to finish a dunk with both hands most of the time. He would work out at the Fonde Recreation Center in Houston, the city where he made his home after leaving for the Sixers. His influence on Olajuwon's development was one of his proudest achievements. "Underrated" should have his picture next to it in the dictionary of your choice. A legend who died too soon (age 60, 2015).

Wilt, Bill, Kareem, Hakeem. You could argue others as well, but these are the ones on my mind and honestly if someone said any one of these names, good on them.

I mean because he never really won much after that up until his later years as a role player for la. He was a certified bucket, but he never really became the superstar level of player like a Kareem or Moses as he should’ve been. I believe he suffered some injuries that slowed him down a bit as well. He’s definitely on that list of underrated players. The 70s as a whole are underrated. So many great players who get no love because of the perception of the 70s being a weak period.

McAdoo was named MVP for 1974 - 1975 and he deserved it that season. He wasn't the all-around player that Kareem was in other seasons.

There were very few pro basketball games nationally televised in the 1970s, so many people didn't get to see all of the good players in the 1970s. Numerous new cable television stations started circa 1980, with the expansion of cable TV many more games were televised.

He's pretty much unanimously the 3rd best player of all time, he's pretty fairly rated

As a bulls fan (who DID see Jordan play on the bulls during the second three-peat), I rank Kareem just slightly behind Jordan, while everyone else is quite distant from those two. Their accomplishments go well beyond just rings, and they both have plenty of those.

No. It was Kareem. But, he didn't get the award since he got in a fight with a Bucks player and missed 2 months during the season due to an injury to his hand because of the fight which also made him miss the All-Star Game that season.

Also despite Kareem missing 2 months during the season, he still managed to play more games than Walton that season and played 62 games while Walton played 58 games. Kareem averaged 25.8 ppg, 12.9 rpg, and 3.0 bpg while Walton averaged 18.9 ppg, 13.2 rpg, and 2.5 bpg.

Kareem was the best player in 1977 - 1978, but the reasons why Walton got the MVP were that Walton's team had the best record that season, people wanted to reward Walton for playing on the championship team the previous season (1976 -1977), and there was prejudice against Kareem for a fight he was in where he broke his hand and injured another player.

When I wrote the script, I thought this video was gonna be 20 minutes long. @Philmon Berhe Good point about the bucks’ record, however, it wasn’t just Kareem. Bob Dandridge was also a rookie with the bucks that year and had a very essential contribution towards their success, same with the bullets championship run of 1978. I definitely think Jerry west deserved the award in 1970. A scoring leader who’s also the best defender in the league and one of the best assisters is hard to beat. But hey, we’ll agree to disagree.

For MVPs, I've done 10s, 00s, 90s, 80s, and now 70s. I'll probably do the 60s as well. I will do Finals MVPs for the 90s and 80s too. Don't know about a ROTY series though. I feel like they get it right most years, which makes the video a lot less interesting when theres barely any changes.

Because your eyeballs told voters that Cowens was by far the most dominant player in 72-73. Tiny was great that season, but he played on a terrible Cincinnati Royals team. The 72-73 Celtics went 68-14, and never lost 2 games in a row. In fact, Red Auerbach said that Cowens season was the most dominant he had ever seen.

cohen weakest era? Did you say the 1970s was the weakest era, Jordan went through 9 HOF players in the 6 finals series combined. Kareem went through 11 HOF players to win his first championship. Let me repeat that for you, in the 6 finals series where Jordan had either 2 or 3 HOF players (Jordan, scottie, +/- Rodman) on his team, Jordan played against a total of 9 HOF players. Kareem for just his first title when he had 2 HOF players (him and oscar) on his team played in 3 playoff series to win one championship they went through 11 HOF players, but i guess Kareem played in a weaker era to people who obviously don't know what they are talking about.

Coach Dale Brown famously had his stat crew go back and watch all 83 games of Maravich's career accounting for any shots that would've been 3-pointers and found that Pistol would have averaged 57 points a game. Unreal.
