I’ve been working in film doing Sfx mua work for around 20 years and I’ve seen bg workers have to go through some of the most boring, long and tiresome times on set. Got a lot of respect for them. Side note though: never ask for pictures or autographs…cringy af.
I was an extra on the tv show Nip/Tuck. I actually paid for a walk on roll through a Make A Wish fundraiser. I sat next to Oliver Platt in the scene of season 3 episode 10(I think) and I sat next to Bradley Cooper in between scenes, he was a guest on the show. I was over the moon when I met Julian McMahon and got my picture taken with him. 😍 Nothing crazy happened, but I’ll never forget it!
I was an extra on a TV show anf I was probably the crazy thing people saw. I'm supposed to be running into a restaurant from outside but when I ran off the curb my dumb ass landed my foot wrong which was followed by a loud POP! Next thing you see is me limping across the street with the assistant director and another extra helping me. So embarrassing 🤦♀️. On the plus side I got to sit with the guest star on that show for like 5 mins, the guy that plays Ian on shameless.

How does someone get to play in a movie/series (as an extra) cuz from the video i get that not all of them are actors Or they are in the bussines ? Idk
You literally sign up on several casting websites. Do your research because some are scams. You should never have to pay for anything to join. The major cities where most production occurs have the most casting agents. LA, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, Houston and Chicago. Once you register with the casting agency, they will send you the jobs your look qualified for or you will be given access to weekly postings. If you have the look the posting calls for, you reply and the agency will send you details of where to report, who to see, the daily pay rate etc.
Or if a TV show or movie is filming at your school, church, or whatever, they may ask some of the members if they want to be extras. I got to be an extra on the set of American Gangster because they filmed the wedding scene at my church. My scenes didn't make it into the movie, but my pay for the 2 days that I took off work to do it was more than I would've earned at my job at the time. One of my scenes did end up on the DVD extras and I saw myself on screen lol. They also filmed an episode of Law & Order at my church but we weren't invited to participate in that. I think they allow you to work as an extra once without having to join the union, or at least that's how it was at the time.
Usually if they are doing a casting call near by they advertise it on the local radio station and you call the radio station for details,atleast that's how it's done whee I live. You could also sign to an agency that puts you on a call list I guess
