They are awesome , I was genuinely surprised by how good they are If HTC / whoever makes a new HMD does not go with something like this then they are brain dead.

the one bad thing I seen since I purchased mine is you lose the glasses cutouts, I can still fit my glasses but some of my friends cannot. but I cannot go back to default foam!!!

Ordered one thanks to your recommendation. Got the "HTC Vive Memory Foam Replacement Soft Cotton Mix 18mm". Thank you. I just realized this one is way larger than the one you showed. The cotton is what was attractive. May cancel now and see if I can just find a cotton cover.

The new covers from Amazon heat up my face just the same. I also don't feel any closer to the lenses than what I did with the original foam cover. They ARE a lot easier to clean though.

nope but I think thin cover is probably best due to you getting comfort + wide FOV. might depend on face shape though.

Hi fozzibab, I have tried the 18mm and the 6mm version. The 18mm is a bit more comfortable for longer sessions, but I prefer the 6mm version as it looks a wider field of view.

You really need to try out a welding harness mod. Its transformed my Vive use. So much more comfortable, barely any weight on your face and you will find a use for your homemade thin face interface mod.

Yah it does look good but at the same time I think its a bit much for me fortunately my box like face and hugemongus nose helps make the vive quite comfortable with the VR cover :)

I'm also afflicted with a nose better suited for keeping things away from my face. Learning to breath through my mouth in vr... The welder harness is not only much more comfortable it's also far easier to put on and take off. It's also great for sharing, just tighten the knob at the back. I'm hoping at some point someone will make a commercial version of this. Maybe you can try it then.

That's a good point about the sharing, I think that's one of the big downsides of default vive, I play VR games with my GF every now and again and its a bit of a pain to keep swapping over. Yah I think I'd try a commercial version I just think if I did this sort of mod myself I'd mess it up lol. I would have thought by Gen 2-3 VR will have reduced in a size quite a bit regardless, its just us Gen 1 hippies that have to mod or suffer. At least we have moved on from 90s VR lol

I find the 6mm most comfortable! It brings my eyes a little closer to the lenses and the headset feels a bit lighter :) The memory foam is okay, I just prefer this one.

I've bought the strap now and that helps tons also with being tight on your face. The elastic strap is just soooo bad.

I feel like this Guy doesn't realize the foam that comes stock is bigger on purpose to ensure you can wear it without taking off your glasses.

they could bundle it with a thin one as well , you can still move the screen out and they could still have made a thin one with insets at the sides for people with glasses.

Keep in mind that it probably won't work with glasses.. Thats probably the reason why HTC went with thicker foam

I don't see why , you can still extend the HMD outwards with the two side nobs. I don't have any glasses to test it with though but that's a good idea, maybe someone can check and report back !

another top video super usefull...do you think the fatter one is better for comfort or fov ect...?... -p.s.: please can you tell or made some tread or video about what kind of headphones is the best way for the vive room scale ? (i read some about 3d sound after binaural where audiophiles tells about only stereo -not the multichannel surround- is the right way ....can you make a list from the best overall , best for the price ,ect headset to buy?..pleeeaseee!!.... anyway many many thanx ...go on with your fantastic and top usefull videos...

CALZIa78ts Maybe if you had a chubby face might be more comfortable lol , I have a massive nose that tends to get in the way. I just use the included headphones other than that on my PC I like to use senhiser 595's as they are really comfortable.

GM... I just ordered this. You sir are costing me money with all your good advice. Next up a Deluxe Headstrap, than a new videocard and than a DD... probably... maybe... who knows. Thank heavens I am single or else I'd probably get murdered tenfold, only to be murdered again after a miracle revive via heart massage and repeat.

it is absurd about the default foam. But they know they can cheap out and cut corners on things youll rationalize later on by saying "oh i need this". i'm pretty sure almost every company is following this business model at this point. sad

It costs more than that :( It is a shame that they cannot be say $10 each. I think for those on a budget the mod ways of doing this work fine but at least VR cover offers an option.

the cover looks like it's just perforated pleather/leatherette on some 4mm foam, maybe something softer than neoprene. should be relatively easy to make your own versions just like the 2mm neoprene.

I have a rift but don't use it as the screen lacks the brightness of the vive and the vives FOV is much wider I also tend to use steam VR for most my games.

plus controllers, i've played my brother oculus and it's no surprise to me when he says its sat on his desk collecting dust. xbox controller that isnt even tracked does not cut it for vr
