If Your Shocks Are Bad This Might Be Why
In this video I install a new set of Bilstein 4600 series shocks on the rear of my 2005 GMC Envoy. This SUV came, from the factory, equipped with Bilstein T25 shocks but I suspected them to be worn out. Interestingly, the Envoy only has 39K original miles. So, the shocks don't have that many miles BUT they are from 2005. After removing them I noticed a big difference in the dampening ability between the new and old.

I had a 2004 trailblazer, and it road like a rocking boat going down the road….horrible! I put the Bilstein 4600s on the front and back, night and day difference! Solid ride and felt like I had much better control of the vehicle. I also found that trailblazers/envoys eat swaybar end links as well! After I went through a set of Moogs I had enough….bought some MAXXlinks from suspensionmaxx, and was done for good!

I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 4x4 6L gas truck. A few years back I put the Bilstein 5100 on my truck and so far so good . Plus I like the Polish look better than the yellow and blue underneath my truck. Some trucks just don't look good with the yellow and blue underneath I wish they would give you color options. That's why I went with the 5100s better shock and also like the polished look.

I have a lift on my 2005 Silverado 1500 crew cab rear wheel drive. It has a 7” pro comp lift. I recently switched to bilstein 5100’s. Night day difference. Especially in the front. It has coil spring suspension too. I also installed a dual shock pro comp steering stabilizer and that made a huge difference in everything as far as steering goes. Quieter way more solid. I believe if anybody has my same model year regardless of a lift or not you must install that steering stabilizer. It’s a pro comp product so it has their shocks ive tried finding bilstein shocks to replace them but no luck. I guess I could measure them and match up a random bilstein stabilizer shock to replace them. It would look really cool with twin stainless steel stabilizers too. The pro comp’s are white.

I've learned on my car, the rear shocks handle the excursion limit of the rear suspension, so putting the vehicle rear on jackstands, then holding the rear suspension in the middle with a jack, will let you exchange the shocks easy. If you lower the rear suspension with the jack, you can simply replace the springs too. My '96 Grand Am GT was a bouncy car, I don't know why. Would bottom out after some speed bumps. Replaced the shocks and struts to same effect. I wish I knew how I could get stiffer sets without paying an arm and leg.

@1ROAD, does those bottom rear shock mounting sleeves came as a whole shock? Because I bought a b6 rear shock that’s made for Toyota Tacoma 2005-2021. And I will be installed them on my lifted Scion xB. They both have the same top stem and bottom eyelet. But it didn’t have a sleeve that it came with. So I figured they design a bit different. And I discover bilstein sells those rear shock mount sleeves. Would they fit my bilstein b6 that didn’t came with it? I know it won’t work that it’s not made to e lift but I do know someone who can definitely makes custom made rear shock extensions, to re-correct the extended length.

@Toyota Brony my old dual cab Ute had KYBs as stock and I changed them for Bilstein B6 off road using the same front torsion bars. The difference between the dampening capability of the two was like night and day. The KYBs bounced a couple of times over the bigger bumps making the front wallow and feel completely disconnected to the firmer leaf sprung and skipping/jittering rear. The B6s, whilst a little firmer, had no bounce (even after 100,000km) and even on the big bumps/ wash outs had minimal to no secondary movement. The rear stopped skipping sideways completely and the 'jitters' totally vanished. The front and rear finally felt 'in sync' with each other. Far more confidence inspiring and comfortable than the KYBs, even though they were firmer. This was especially so when it started to get really rough. IMHO they're in a completely different league.

So why are the shocks bad. Name of video is misleading
@toyotabrony

Wrong. He’s talkin about the original oem bilstein shocks. And even though it has lo miles. Over the year it can age a lot and affects the ride quality. Causing the shocks to be bad to drive.

Was yours made in mexico? Made in india? Or made in USA? Crap!! I got the rear ones made in mexico and front made in india, i hate that, i wanted made in usa

Lol hey it truly doesn’t matter. But actually. If it says made, than that can be different. But it’s labeled as Assemble in Mexico, or assemble in US. That means nothing. As long as it’s MADE in Germany. That remains best high quality monotube shocks. So it wouldn’t matter what 4600 u choose. It will labeled randomly. If it rides supreme, why argue.
