Good points man. I hate driving my dads dumptruck with the leafs up front, sometimes when the roads are bumpy I hit my head on the ceiling lmao. Both suspensions are good but solids axles would be better for work and towing

See the thing I see here that's really is you usually stick with IFS to get more ground clearance underneath the front of the truck with this setup may as well of gone single axle swap because you have the same ground clearance with this system then with the single axle swap that's the only benefit to IFS is that because you have independent front suspension is so that in the middle of the front you have more clearance from the ground which is literally not the case in the setup, you should have just gone long travel front end which you would have been able to do IFS and it would have came with longer axles this is literally pushed your transfer case and diff down towards the ground which defeats the whole purpose of IFS maybe if you drive this only on the road it wouldn't matter but if you're attending to go off road you literally have a stock height front end is far as good ground clearance sure you can gain some clearance from stock with the big tires but besides that look how far you had to push down your transfer case and front differential

True but solid axles can drive smooth if built right. I run a custom long arm kit with my custom cross memeber. On my 2018 rubicon I run 40s 4 inch lift and hit 90 on i45 all the time zero bump steer what so ever. It depends on gemomety and the build you go with. I just can’t IFS I’m too rough my terrain near me would eat up cv axles and ball joints .

For me, I would have two vehicles, one for daily driver, one for off road. What I see here looks very expensive repairs once things break if he is hard core off roader.

On my 2000 1500 I have 35 12.5 17s only mods I've done is a set of thicker tie rods, aftermarket lower control arms and bushings upgraded the ball joints to a cheapo but better than oem set. upgraded the front Hubs with a set from a local 4x4 shop they have made here In canada. Only issue I've had is the 8.25 front diff dose not like sharp corners with your foot burried burned up 2 so far in 100k probably 20k off off roading In that time. Only have a 2.5 inch leveling kit installed 2 inch blocks in rear with 2011 1500 3 leaf springs for flex. The front has trimmed bump stops and I disconnect the sway bar and get a few extra inches of travel up front.

They may be stronger, but the first time someone figure out a way to beef up IFS and even IBS they will do way better in the mud. The thing that stops trucks in the mud in every video I watch is the straight axle dragging the mud. I have seen a truck with Independent suspension all the way around. They dominate in the mud.

Couple things. Ifs is for looks. No articulation. And the ride quality you gained is more likely from the larger tire sidewall. Your torsion bars are the same and offer very little up and down movement. Solid axles can be done poorly using leafs or 4 link. Or done well with both. I had 13" lift and 40s using super duty leaf springs on my avalanche 2500. Rode so nice. And that was after removing the 6" ifs lift that rode like a rock. Solid axle will require crossover steering which isn't for everyone either. A sas will require much more work and money than a bolt on ifs kit.
@zososldier

IFS can have massive articulation. You are just gonna have to spend 8-12k on a pre-runner type setup.

@jeffisphree 5 лет назад
DonYukon That’s not true at all. There are multiple videos on RU-vid alone of bone stock, brand new solid axle vehicles such as Wranglers or F250s death wobbling all over the place. Any solid axle vehicle is susceptible to death wobble. It’s due to the design of a solid axle setup itself.

@kirbywinters1291

A solid axle swap can be done in less than a day. What do you mean by say'n it would take weeks to do the swap? You cut out the old existing ifs, weld in new mounts, a little spray paint to protect your cuts and welds from rusting, then install your spring setup and install your new front axle. You can have a new front drive line measured and built at a later date and then mounted when your ready to go wheeling.
@BERTRAND85O
@BERTRAND85O 6 лет назад
lol thats not realistic tho if I want it done properly by a professional
@zososldier
@zososldier 6 лет назад
A pro should still be able to do it in a day or 2. The process is just what the above guy said. Cut old crap off> weld new mounts on> weld in shock hoops > paint> attach everything> get new drive shaft.
@BERTRAND85O

@zososldier
@zososldier 6 лет назад
Yeah, it doesn't take that long. If you were building everything from scratch I could see it taking longer but most shops use off the shelf mounts, links, tabs etc. Powder coating also doesn't take that long. Sand blast > Spray >put in a regular kitchen oven for a little bit if it's small enough > reinstall. Almost every "Kit" I have come across for SAS is usually 15-20 hours work for people at home. The time is that high because most don't have lifts, plasma torches, air guns, etc.

Swapping from IFS to solid axles if you don’t have the tools time and experience can be a big project man. But you can make IFS pretty damn tough with a skinny pedal at times! I got a rock crawler and I also got a pre runner. But I do check my ends all the time after trails on ifs vs my jeep. May I ask what’s your plans what’s your uses and what do you put your vehicle through.
@rsd3273
@rsd3273 2 года назад
If you solid axle swap that’s lots and lots of cutting and welding to tackle man. If you keep IFS honestly I’d look into brands like Dirt kings they make pre runner kits but mid travel is their most affordable yet strong kits. And you can keep 4x4 with it problem is on the market it’s all lift kits they’re not meant to take abuse I honestly can’t name a company I’ve seen besides rock crawler make something that lifts and gets down for IFS fronts.
