I show you the steps you need to replace either the ignition cylinder, turn/Wiper assembly arms, or your ignitions switch! My 76 VW Super Beetle would not start. It ended up being my ignition switch this time. See how I diagnosed it!

You are awesome. My 72 was a little different, but you gave me the basics to be able to do the job. On the 72, the center bolt is 27mm, and there are two bolts that hold in the cover for the ignition cylinder. You have to take out the turn signals and the wiper controls to get to the two cover bolts. Your walk through gave me the info to get in and get started. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Solid work on the video. I just did this myself, but I don’t film it lol. All the videos of this exact process before yours were absolutely terrible quality. Glad to see people are still making repair content for aircooled beetles

Thanks for this! My '74 Super didn't have the two screws to remove the cylinder housing as shown in most other videos. Your procedure was right on for me car.

Good job. I hope you reconnected the hoses to the two long plastic hose fittings on the windshield wiper switch assembly for activating the windshield washer jets. I forgot to do that the first time I changed an ignition switch on a 1975 Porsche 914 (which uses the same wiper and ignition switches as your Beetle).

euro911 haha yeah I don’t remember if I did or not but I don’t use my windshield washer bottle as I have no spare tire and that’s what it runs off of. In my car if I remember correctly..

My housing of my lock looks exactly the same but there is no pinhole. How can I push the spring and release the lock? Any suggestions?

Nah, my lock cylinder was fine. I highly doubt it, I don’t take my car anywhere I’m not constantly next to it and it stays locked up at my house. In this instance the switch broke when I was trying to pull it out of my garage after months of not running it.

@@ChelszH -- I hear that the aftermarket electric components do not last very long. Very poor quality. NOS is the way to go _IF_ you can find the parts.
