Looks like you've got that 1000 subscribers goal! Good for you-hope you're getting some of that green. I love your videos as I'm trying to bring back to life my old 88 ke100.. Thanks a ton for all you post! Super helpful!
Glad to see someone still working on these. I recently picked up a '79 KE100 that's got no spark. Hopefully new points and condenser fix 'er up this weekend.
Hi Kevin love your videos! I’m having an issue with a 72 Suzuki TC125. I’m getting spark from the mag wire to ground but when I connect to the coil I get no fire to the spark plug. The spark from the mag wire to ground is very small blue spark no arcing. The coil is new after market off flea bay. Points are good no shorting. I have no changed the condenser yet but have one on order. The primary coil on the stator tested good at 1.9 ohms. What am I missing?
Kevin, I’ve seen that you have a repair manual. I haven’t been able to pick one up yet. Are you able to look and see what the torque spec is for the nut that holds the flywheel on? I’ve sheared off the woodruff key twice now, so I’m trying to repair it and make sure it’s out on correctly.
Hello thanks for your videos , I have a Yamaha pw80, don't have points, and no pick up Coil, can you explain to mi how It works. And what type of cdi uses Thanks a lot. Rodolfo
Ok so I have a Ke100 engine I’m putting on a bicycle frame. It has one 4 pin plug coming out of the mag and one single teal wire with a large single plug. Which wire is supposed to go to the coil? Thanks
Should a guy lightly sandpaper the laminated plates of the coils to polish them up a bit or are they coated with something that they shouldn't be shined up?
I got 75 suzuki tc 125 that had no spark. I changed the points and condensor and im getting a very inconsistent and weak spark. The ignition coil checks out good with my multimeter. So i disconnected the coil from the condensor and im getting 2.5 ohms with my multimeter set at the lowest ohms setting which is 200 ohms. Could this be my problem or did i cook the condensor using the pen style solder iron? Thanks for your help.
Hey kevin first off want to say thx for all thr very detailed videos, they have helped me alot, thx to you I have successfully changed crankbearings reassembled and rode again!! Anyway i got a quick question on my latest $25 ke100 after pulling the flywheel to inspect coil and points i was very surprised to see 6 magnet flywheel, per your videos i have learned that those flywheels where produced later and for 12volt systems. I am sure the coils and points and condenser on the stator are of thr 6v variety. I have a 3 magnet flywheel off another ke i was gonna use but was wondering if your expertise could shine some light on light on if the 6mag flywheel would work? Once again thanks, and keep on enlightening!!!
@@2strokeguru so either flywheel would work the six magnet or three? The 3 mag seems to not follow the curve of the crankshaft as well and sticks out ti far. You are the man btw, promt and curtious
i dont have a part number for them but if you take your 2 halfs to the hardware store you can match up thats caused by a losses flywheel nut tourq is 36ft lb
Thanks, and should I be able to easily run through all the gears with the engine off? I can easily get into 2nd but after that it doesn't always click into the next gear, I can get it if I kinda roll it with the clutch let out but I don't know if it's supposed to be like that Thanks for the help, William
Yes there is a way to test the points on the bike and all hooked up? It's Called a squauk box it sounds all the time but when they come together It changes pitch.. do. Ra me. I've built my own out if a 12v blinker They make a sharp pitch noise Plus 4aa batteries to make a kind of like continuity tester... They use to sell them back in the 70s for especially 6v motorcycles. Well Just thought I'd throw that out there Have a great day.
@@2strokeguru ya will do. It makes it so much easier to do your Timing on those type of bike. Because all you have to do is hook Your earth wire any were on the bike And your pos to the hot wire coming from the points then losen the points screw to taught and turn your fly wheel back and fourth when f mark lines up correctly You wheel hear a different pitch in the sound this gives you dead on timing. Alot of people think it's on but with the squak box you'll see Just how much they are off? Once they are correctly done they can go 40 years with no problems And much more reliable than cdi Box they can go out anywhere at any time it's just a capacitor...? Old two Strokes are basically apocalyptic No battery no coolant and can be made diesel no spark plugs there Already doing it in afghanistan? They just need the start of a glowplug and battery to fire them Then there off and going I think I will try making one my self.
Kevin perhaps you would be kind enough to help, saw your videos on ignition testing and to that end I have a 1979 Honda PA50II with no spark: my test results as follows,Charge coil-1.8 ohms spark plug cap 5.10k ohms: Ignition coil 8.14k ohms: and HT wire combined with coil 13 k ohms, the condenser which I'm not certain of results ie ohm meter 15 ohms and dc voltage I think was 0
Have you replaced your points and condenser and spark plug most of these old bikes just simply need a tune up in my 30years I have yet to see a bad 6volt coil in fact I tried shorting one out with 12v
Hey kevin this video has been incredibly helpful. I just picked up a 1974 g4tr 100 Trail Boss 10-speed. I've cleaned and reset the carb it has a brand new KAWASAKI HIGH PERFORMANCE IGNITION COIL 6/12 VOLTS POINTS OR CDI MAGNETO on it. The bike will start 2nd kick every time and will run flawlessly for about 10 min then it starts acting like its running out of gas and will sometime backfire. Any suggestions on where to start? Someone said condenser but i dont want to just throw parts at it aimlessly. Thank you for your knowledge!!
I didn't put it on, but this looks exactly like the ignition coil that is on the bike. which looks brand new www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Hi-Performance-Ignition-Coil-6-or-12-volt-Points-or-CDI-Single-Lead/312770968265?_trkparms=aid%3D1110002%26algo%3DSPLICE.SOI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20190711095549%26meid%3D5ed67787575348a2a51d97b65872748c%26pid%3D100047%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D193106065513%26itm%3D312770968265%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100047.m2108
@@2strokeguru I just put a new petcock on 1 hour ago. The bike ran waaaay better with new petcock and new carb rebuild but still same issue. This time it would act boggy but would still idle well until i gave blipped the throttle then it just wants to die out. That is really good to know about the kv100 thank you.
Hey,kevin. Do you know why my magneto ignition coils keep burning up and whether or not i can rewind my own coils or where to find the right magnet wire? I can't find any on ebay or the internet .....I'm f'd!! Its my only form of transportation and i can't work because of it.
@@2strokeguru i agree. I donxt mean melting. The varnish on it darkened quite quickly, as if it had been through multiple heat cycles. The battery/lights coils have never changed colours and still look brand new. The new coil now looks as dark as the coil that was originally with it. When i rebuilt it, it was clear that the engine had never been over heated.
