Today we decided to go check out the pet section of IKEA. Who knew we would find all these cool things for the girls(even though most of them are for cats). Hi there! Why should you not get pine products for guinea pigs? Does this extend to their bedding?

Rosie Nicholson Pine has a compound in its natural fragrance that can cause URI’s in guinea pigs. However if the pine has been kiln-dried, it removes the fragrance. If you’re using pine bedding, the label should say “kiln-dried” to indicate that it’s safe. But with other wooden products like hideys, tunnels, and hay racks aren’t always labelled, so I smell wooden products before buying them since most of them are pine.

Tara Harmsen yes. Pine and cedar have a strong smell that can cause guinea pigs to get a respiratory infection.

Oh, my girls were super skittish for the first couple of months as well. In fact, it probably took Dumping more than 6 months to finally be more chill and trust me. I am confident that they will come around 😊😊

I use ceramic bowls in my gangs pens. They can't flip them. They do sit in them, once they are half empty though.

I know I'm 2 years late, but I saw one on Amazon that's more like rubber, it's blue and sort of sucks to the ground. Be harder to tip.

I got a nice stainless cat food bowl at dollar tree. It has a nice wide base with a rubber ring so it doesn't slide or get knocked over, can't beat it for a buck. Good to see your girls exploring and enjoying their new stuff

Maybe I should bring it to see if they want it when I visit The Animal Foundation next time. Given how well equipped they are, I dont think they do, but might as well as ask!

Usually pine is not the best choice because of its voc (same reason I don't recommend pine shavings for bedding), but it was sort of "acceptable" when I put my nose near me :) I don't use it anymore though, especially after Peanut incident.

I never went to Ikea, but this video really shows alot of it! I definitely want to go there, I originally wanted the doll bed, but my piggies aren't big on those type of beds and open things, I have hammocks and fluffy pillows that they don't use much. You know, Si, there's a company called Hay pigs, I know Little Adventures has alot of the items, my piggies love the circus hide, I also bought the big pillow, it's called a crash mat, lol, and they enjoy those products. I plan on buying the Cavy cannonball as well. I hope they love their new stuff!

@@Yeewen88 oh haha I see my mistake! :D when I was young we had 2 boys, Ernie and Bert, they were brothers and did never fight. Than at the age of 12 (my age) they died (they became 7 years! :)) and we got us two girls! Lily and Flecki! So they were our second pair of guniea pigs but lily was 'the first' in my comment and 'flecki' the second so just I wanted to make clear we always had two 😊

There not expensive, its an investment. With a guinea dad liner, you can actually save up to 400 dollars a year instead of paper or wood bedding.

I have w guinea pigs but they just stay together and dont move when i put them out the cage. We rescued them 2 months ago but they dont do much lol they dont play or do anything just eat and drink

Takes time for them to get used to you. Just sit around them, maybe in the cage if you can fit and not touch them whenever you can. They will start trusting you more. You can also try our bonding method in another GuineaDad RU-vid video!

Hi! Like watching your vdos. We have two girl guinea pigs who are an year old. We recently moved from wood shavings to fleece and stated putting padded sheets( disposable) they are quite absorbent but we are very confused about washing and cleaning the fleece. We clean all the poop everyday but how often should we be changing the fleece. And do u wash it or change it??? Please help! 🙄

It really depends on the quality of hte fleece! for the guineadad liner, for it to be in tip top shape we recommend washing it at least every 4 days!

For first couple days to a week, I would focus on helping them adjust to the surrounding by: making sure you have enough hay, water, and a daily dose of veggies (red/green leaf lettuce, cucumber, and bell peppers are good choices), and quiet surroundings. You can stay near him or her as long as you can and talk in a very soft voice during that time. Try to minimize touching.
