The book must be about he 300th book I've illustrated over my career for other authors as well as myself.
It starts with the drawing done and follows the painting in watercolour. The chat has lots of tips and stories about illustration and children's books.

This is so, so helpful, thank you, Shoo! I'm illustrating a book for my son about his adoption homecoming and I just really, really want to do my best work on it. thank you for this..alot of your comments did ring true with me which is encouraging :).. i am about to do the colour spreads for a book dummy and although i'm apprehensive of the feedback.. i'm very excited.. it's been a labour of love. The most difficult part I think will be to find the correct publisher for my work.. all about research which is the boring yet crucial bit isn't it! (By the way, i loved CS2 at college.. i've recently purchased Daler Rowney line and wash watercolour board which seems a good substitute)

Feedback and criticism is always hard - y0u have to build a skin top protect yourself and filter out the bad stuff and build upon the good stuff. Good luck

What a great video, so imformative and helpful. Do you get your artwork professionally scanned to make it a digital image to edit in photoshop? Or do you just use a camera or ipad to take photos of your artwork?

Thanks - For that book I was using a canon Lide 400. I've since upgraded considerably to an Epson V800 Photo. The change in quality oil dramatic!

SHOO, I'm having trouble with watercolour my rose ( two rose buds and the other is just half way out) you know not fully bloomed out. So it's getting frustrated with it. Doing red into pink from bottom then there are shapes of petals could you show me how I can put in prospective please. Love your videos learn a lot.

I have recently stumbled into you channel. I have soooo enjoyed listening to your voice and watching the picture develop. Have you tried watercolor pencils. if so what do you think of them. I would like to see what you do with a water colored picture in photo shop. from watching your channel and a couple other videos on illustration I'm getting the impression that one doesn't send in paper copy to an editor anymore. what is the process from idea to getting a publisher to finding an illustrator/or illustrating it yourself and all the steps in between. I know that's a lot to ask. I'm really wanting to know.

This is the second video of yours that I watched so forgive me if you've already gone over this. After you illustrate this and your book is finished, do you scan the pages before sending them off to an editor or when you're pitching your idea? Do they come out as beautiful as this looks here? I love your work and your so calm as you work and teach. I can learn and relax. Thank you!

Thanks - after about 15 different camera setups I now use a Lumix BGH1 suspended from the ceiling and powerful led photo lighting

I had a cousin ask me to illustrate a children's book for her, I don't do digital & she knows that... I'm old school, Ive only used acrylics & colored pencils. Would water color be the best medium for this type of illustration, I'm thinking water colors or pastels? Also what type of paper is best & why do you secure the paper with masking tape? Also did you just use that pencil on the image or a fine point marker, & what kind of brush are you using?

That's enough questions to fill up a 3year illustration degree course! lol watercolour is favoured because it's generally easiest to reproduce
