Rob Strok unpacks the filmmaking decisions behind his epic short film Chasing The Present, documenting the profound beauty and drama of an active volcano on the verge of eruption. Rob chose the Ninja V+ and Canon EOS R5 combo with 8K Apple ProRes RAW and no detail was left behind. He discovered why a monitor-recorder is the essential tool to make capturing beautiful video simple and efficient.
Working with Ninja V+ allowed Rob to expand his creative palette and improve his cinematography. He used AtomOS to adjust settings, check scopes, and control exposure to precisely dial in the look of the film. Filming in 8K and recording in Apple ProRes RAW allowed Rob to maximise color information and efficiently edit the footage in post-production. The additional screen real estate from the Ninja adds so much value and allowed Rob to be confident in his composition.
Rob found the perfect run-and-gun video rig during this production. Ninja V+ allowed Rob to record in a higher quality format than the Canon EOS R5 allows internally, gives extensive built-in monitoring, exposure and focussing assistance, and adds 5-inches of HDR screen real-estate.
