If you bought an inexpensive tool, you probably want to make a few improvements to its functionality. In this video I take three cheap Canadian tools, and show the performance improvements I made.

Excellent improvements and great video! I really appreciate you sharing. I have a extremely small mini lave on order for my 12-year-old grandson, and your extension is the perfect solution for it. Scott

The used tool market can be a good route to pursue when upgrading tools. Here in the States I do buy Harbor Freight but my Band Saw and Lathe I picked up used for only the cost of repairs such as a switch and speed control. An idea for an addition to your lathe that I might implement is build a transmission for it that will transform and send the rotational motion of the lathe to something like a rock tumbler or ball mill. I expect your lowest rpm on the mini lathe is roughly 600 rpm. For a rock tumbler you would want in the neighborhood of 30 to 60 rpm but you could spin a large container with the whole apparatus. The ball mill could be higher rpm, but they have plenty of uses, especially if you ever want to try hobby fireworks.

That's really interesting - my daughter wants a rock tumbler actually! Great idea

Great video. Thank-you for sharing. For the most part, I like mastercrap, too. There isn't a linear relationship between price and quality, and a lot of their tools strike that balance pretty well (IMO) whilst also letting beginners (like me) try a lot of tools they couldn't otherwise afford or justify buying.

I feel that way too, they're so inexpensive on sale, its a great way to try a tool, see if you like it, get a feel for it.
