A brief look at the work and legacy of Waylon Jennings, the man who probably personified the Outlaw Country movement more than anyone else (even if he came to despise the term). Waylon was an exceptional artist & performer whose work has stood the test of time and continues to influence generations of musicians.

Waylon is so deeply engrained in me. I was fortunate enough to have seen Waylon back in the '90s playing on a stage pulled behind his tour bus at the local agricultural fair in Saskatchewan. About 50 people gathered, standing around behind the concessions. He was fabulous. So genuine, gracious and funny. Played a bunch of his hits to the delight of us all. Jessi sang with him and a young Shooter was on drums. To my mind, Waylon absolutely needed Ralph Mooney to make that trademark sound. Moon along with Waylon's driving guitar and his rich baritone is just food for the soul. I agree with your album assessments. "Honky Tonk Heroes" vs. "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean"? I'll take the former by a hair. I've always liked "Rambling Man" and "This Time" a whole lot too while that expanded "Waylon Live" to me is the definite collection of his music hands down. Absolutely killer. I love that third Highmen album too, one of the best Country albums of the '90s in my opinion. Thanks for honouring Waylon!

I'm jealous you saw him, especially such a special show! You're right, Moon was an integral part of his sound. Thank you for your kind words!

I appreciate your love for Waylon but Waylon was 62 when he passed and his band was called The Waylors. Back then.

Actually, we're both wrong! *lol* He was 64 when he died; he lived June 15, 1937 - Feb. 13, 2002, so just a few months shy of his 65th birthday. I apologize for the error and thank you for correcting me!

Buddy Holly offered the two other seats to Waylon and Tommy Allsup (lead guitarist) there are numerous contemporary written and filmed interviews from both that always told the same story about the event. The Big Bopper was sick and asked Waylon to swap so he could get some rest and Allsup and Valens flipped a coin for the other seat. After Waylon and Allsup were dead Dion began inserting himself into the story. The Dion lie has been a excellent example of social media misinformation.

If you do your homework you would know that Waylon and Jessi are the only ones that put together the Wanted the Outlaw album illegally together, it was the first platinum ever..After the statue of limitations was up he could tell the truth without getting sued..There would be no Willie if not for Waylon,,,Red headed stranger album wouldn't have been released without Waylon.. Waylon was number one at everything he did..watch his audio biography and Tim and Tom down home Down under,...there is more to the story of the highway men but Waylon never bragged about things did,he always included everyone, real is what you get from Waylon..

Not sure why the need for confrontational tone? I do these videos for fun and I hope people enjoy them. As for Waylon being No. 1 at everything he did, that's certainly one way to look at it. I absolutely LOVE his music, it's meant so much to me for so many years. There are so many sides to every story that it's not worth arguing over - Waylon's long gone but his music is still as vital and important as ever, which is really all that counts :)

Technically, the 'Wanted: The Outlaws' album was the idea of the record's original producer. It was a marketing gimmick by RCA, pure and simple, to capitalize on the commercial momentum by these artists. RCA would continue to exploit and re-package it's 1960s recordings of Willie's throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s, right up to present day. Which is not to negate the collection of songs on the album. It's a great classic. Thanks to Steve Earle's effort to re-issue it with a new Waylon and Willie song and in expanded form, it's even better.

@@Reader-Copy you didn't do your homework that's plain to see and you believe what comes out of Nashville. This is why Waylon disliked it so much..Nashville is about making money for itself not the singer songwriter and your calling Waylon a liar and which he wasn't..
