Hi Marlene from Ontario, Canada. I have my sewing patterns printed at a copy shop. I trace the patterns with medical examination table paper (from amazon) so that my Master copy stays in one piece. I can then make alterations with the traced pattern. This allows me to keep the Master in case I gain or lose weight and my measurements change. This has saved me money not having to reprint the patterns. I love your haircut! i am currently knitting on Lento 3 and hoping to start my spring/summer knitting and sewing plans.
Yes, this! It is a extra step but saving your master copy gives you many options in the future. Hacking the pattern, making a size bigger or grading in between sizes. In the Netherlands I pay 2,95€ per A0 in black and white. Check out the Hinterland dress and the Ogden cami. Fun patterns to start with from the indi sewing community ☺️
I have heard about this hack before but haven’t found the right tracing paper yet, but I might try it out with my next couple of patterns since it does sound like such a useful thing to do! Thank you both for your recommendations
Any paper that is thin enough to see the pattern true will do in the beginning. And any store that sells thread, fabric or other sewing related items should have it. It wil cost between 2-5€ for a roll. It really is a basic necessity ☺️
Haha I was gonna say that my favourite sewing pattern is the Pansy Dress by Rosery Apparel, I wear my linen gingham version all the time. Then I heard her voice from her beginners series. Meant to be 🥰
I recently got bangs as well and the confidence you get from a fresh new haircut. ✨ I don’t have a favourite sewing pattern yet but I’m looking to start sewing with the Bi_Classic by b-patterns. 👖 There is a sewalong video that explains every single step, discusses alterations and if you should make a first sample before diving into you favourite fabric for it. So I think it will be a great first project. ☺️
Lovely to see you venturing more into sewing! A favourite pattern of mine is the True Bias Lander pants. Just the coolest wide leg trousers which I think give very seventies vibes ❤
Favorite pattern: Sade Blouse by Named Clothing, i have it in a dark blue muslin, it's elegant, playful, feminine, and party in the back. I love following your knitting and sewing journey, and the last couple of weeks/months you've lit up, I can see quitting academia and following your passion in your job has given you energy, you radiate it in your videos! Be you and keep that spark, Marlene 😊
Love that you are learning to sew, it's the best! Two of my favorite sewing patterns are the Free Range Slacks by Sew House Seven and the Morgan Jeans by Closet Core Patterns. The jeans were a long project and I bought the class to help me along, but so fun to finally have jeans that fit me well, I'm planning to make another pair this year at some point. I'm waiting on some linen to make my third pair of Free Range Slacks. I just bought the Chanterelle Pants by Sew Liberated to try at some point this year as well, but I've never made them.
I love this more casual format of videos!! your podcasts are my fav but this is super fun :) My favourite pattern is the Magic Pants by Ann Tilley Handmade for sure, they just fit so perfectly and are a great first venture into the world of trousers sewing (which can be so intimidating) ☺
I loved this so much! I'm always so excited to see your videos and I was laughing at the multicraftual Era! I feel like that's the perfect summation for makers ❤ My favorite sewing pattern has to be the Colette Patterns Hawthrone 1026. It was the first pattern I made by myself without my mom's help. I was always drafting patterns together from McCalls and it drove her nuts! I hope you continue to enjoy sewing ❤
YES!! Ill check them out and I think its lovely you got to sewing with your mom, unfortunately I never learned any textile crafts from mine but now I’ve been teaching her how to knit again so that’s nice too! You too, happy making!
Love the haircut, Marlene! I think between my sister convincing me to grow my hair out again, and my annual need to do something drastic, bangs will be coming back for me this fall. Thanks for bringing us along on your crafty week off. ❤ Mia
Thank you and I can’t wait to see that fall haircut then! Totally feel the need for something new every now and then :) thanks for spending some time with me
Thank you for the super cozy vlog Marlene! I am starting my sewing journey as well, so I haven't made a ton of sewing patterns. But my favorite pattern so far is the Aimee Bag by Mipi The Label. I have made 4 Aimee Bags and I love them. The pattern gives options for three sizes and a lot of other customizable options. I recently got in some new yarn to finally start an Agnete Cardigan. A project that has been on my wish list of a long time now, and I finally have the patience to start such a time consuming knit. I think the Pigeon and Wishes buttons will look lovely on my future dark grey Agnete.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve actually bought this pattern many months before I ever felt comfortable enough to attempt to make it haha, so this is really encouraging and a goal of mine to make an Aimee bag for myself at some point, my love for quilt stars is huge as you can tell! :) Happy knitting and sewing
Hi Marlene! Love the vlog (and buttons). My all-time favorite pattern to sew is the Pomona Pants by Anna Allen. They're super easy and I just love the fit; I think I've made around 6 or 7 versions at this point! Also the new hair looks sooooooo good
Love the new haircut 💇🏼♀️ I’ve also had bangs for my whole life, I love them. This was such a good vlog - so excited to see more of your making! Please share your best sourdough tips, I’ve just started out ❤️🍞
Hi Marlene. My favourite sewing pattern is the Ogden Cami. I have done a bit of sewing but stopped just over a year ago as I've been knitting and spinning. I'd like to get back into sewing but don't want to give up my knitting and spinning time. Need more crafting time! Good luck with your sewing journey.
Hi Marlene, I love the shorts! I just made myself a pair of Chanterelle shorts and also pants from Sew Liberated. It is one of my favorite patterns at the moment 🥰 I can totally relate to your "multicraftual era" title. I'm so inspired to make and discover new crafts and techniques! It really energizes me and brings me joy ✨ Your bangs look really nice by the way 😉 Take care! Sandy
I've yet to use a sewing pattern to have a favorite pattern yet (beginner sewist here as well!), but I'm prepping for the Peppermint Pocket Skirt, a free pattern by Paper Theory. It's super cute! My paper pattern is all cut and taped together, ready for cutting my fabric! Happy sewing, lady!
Wow your hair, so so nice! 😍 I loved the vlog and so nice to see different crafts you do. I am a knitter but I also want to start sewing. I don’t have favorite patterns that I have tried just yet bit I really liked commonstitch patterns ( for example Bellbird Wrap Dress ) that are very beautiful and minimalistic ❤
Wonderful content as always! My favorite pattern is the Sew Liberated Studio Tunic. I’m not sure it’s the right seas to recommend it but it’s a fall and winter staple in my wardrobe.
My favourite pattern is the Judy Dress by Fibre Mood- their website and magazines have some lovely choices! I’m wanting to make the Merchant and Mills Trapeze dress for this summer
My favorite sewing pattern is definitely a flared trousers from the Dutch magazine "knipmode". Would love to make a gingham version one day. Would be so cool! Sewn flared pants, knitted tops and curtain bangs for that 70's vibe... Yes yes yes :)
Vielleicht ja was für deine kleineren Stoffmengen. 🤗
My favourite sewing pattern is definitely the Hinterland dress. I think I made at least 5 in the past year. Also, Brindle and Twigs have a free bloomers & tee pattern ;)
To a beginnier sewer, honestly, start with patterns that have very good instructions. Bellalovespatterns has the best I have come across, but her stuff is pretty advanced, though the instructions really are so good I think a beginnier would be fine with the more simple ones. I think Elizabeth Zusanne would be up you alley, she has simple linen projects that look so sleek, I love her culottes. Do avoid style Arc, they are super popular, but their instructions suck big time. Go for smaller indie designers that have a few patterns over the bigger companies, the amount of care put into creating the patterns is so different. Sewing is the best, you will be so glad you took up this hobby!
I always thought you had a beautiful haircut, but I love the bangs on you, it suits you so well! I really recommend Elizabeth Suzann patterns in general, but I have sewn the Florence pants as my first garment and it was so easy! There is a step-by-step tutorial here on RU-vid and they are the perfect comfy pants
Hola Marlene, My favorite sewing pattern is from the catalan/spanish studio #lantoki, the #chaqueta worker in it's short version. Have a look ar their other patterns, aswell. Nice and simple things to complete your knitting wardrobe, I think. Un abrazo Andrea ( " el.gato.y.yo ")
You may benefit from using a burn test on a small sample of the Christmas tree skirt fabric. You will more than likely be able to find out how to assess the result on U tube. Basically the resulting ass and smell will tell you the fibre content.
