In this video, I explore a popular ramblers' route along the Viking Way in the footsteps of Roman Legions. The circular hike begins at Fulletby (the second highest settlement in Lincolnshire), which then progresses on to Belchford, Salmonby then ends upon the return at the starting point.
The weather was perfect for a late spring/early summer hike and along the way I discover and dilapidated old farmhouse which would have once sat with commanding views of the Wolds. Along the way I walk along a Roman Road which would have been used as a salt road to bring salts from the coastal regions to Lincoln.
To end a perfect hiking adventure I make my way to the coast for some much deserved fish & chips and to watch the waves roll in from the sea.

A lovely video, can't beat the beauty of late Spring walks, an abundance of light and flora. Yet to explore the Wolds, but they're high on my to visit list.

Especially after a long winter of grey skies and rain. I like all seasons and think they all have their positives but I remember thinking during March walks how much I was looking forward to the colour popping in May/June. Thanks for watching. 😀☀️

Great video Gav! Loved the mix of nature and history. So intrigued by the abandoned house, such a shame when they get left to rot. It had amazing views. Will have to add the Lincolnshire Wolds to the list of walks to do with Lexie.

Thanks Claire. It looked quite old by the look of the detail left on the roof. Crazy to think at one point it would have been brand new. Kept my distance though as was just passing and looked like could be dangerous. Absolutely. You’d enjoy exploring the Wolds!

Thanks bud. The Viking Way seems to pop up in so many walks I do as it snakes right through Lincolnshire. We’ll have to meet up for a walk eh!

Great video Gav. I love this route, one of my favourites in the wolds along with the Nettleton walk (In ore of our past). Also love the Belchford walk - In the shadow of juicetrump. The wolds are such a hidden gem for hiking. I have also managed to get to the tri point, it is buried in a hedge! I got one of my favourite drone shots near by.

Thanks Chris. It’s great especially at this time of the year when everything seems to come alive and the colours pop. I wondered where that trig was and figured it was either in the hedge or just on the other side. Shame really. Would be much better if it was in an area where you could see it. We don’t have many trigs in the Wolds. All the best!

Hi Gavin, nice weather you got for the hike and that 87 year old lady was the star, like you love walking on my own and making the vids, have walked all them footpaths many times and you showcased them well, agree with all your 10 reasons to go hiking, theres plenty of great like minded people in the Lincolnshire hiking buddies group, so if you fancy a group walk click on going its a good craic, lovely vid cheers nigel

This is my favourite rime of year too Gav, everything gets a bit over grown after this. The old building is very sad, I always wonder what sequence of events led up to them being abandoned and falling into ruin. Its a bit like the millstones in the peaks, some of the bigger ones were significant assets that were passed on to future generations until they lost their value. Great video, thanks for sharing - well made as always!

Thanks Phil. It’s nice to think at this point of the year there are still four good months of light. September is always an extension of the summer. Then there is the autumn colour burst of October and November. Great for hiking in. Thanks for watching. It was a great hike. Such a colourful day. 😀☀️
