@@phunklow Animators of now wouldn't do it any justice at all. They would have to live/breath animation in the old ways to even touch the craftsmanship. They would depend too much on digital programs to craete it. Wouldn't have the same magic as displayed here... That's incredible!!!
The bit at the end with the blue guy is from Internal Transfer. A bunch of storyboards from it were published in Caliber's 6-issue "Moebius Comics" series. That Incal stuff was almost shot-for-shot from the original comics. Crazy!
Just for accuracy - Internal Transfer is an animated film of the 80 who remained in draft form: Jean Giraud drawings and Written by Jean Paul Appel Guery.
Russia has just recently released their own hand drawn animation in the sci-fi /action/horror genre called CYBERSLAV. Masterful draftsmanship and animation and distinctive style.
Oh absolutely,I agree. This could never be told properly as a 1 film story. Was that the original intent,I suppose? Hmm,if so,perhaps we WERE spared a tragedy. But MAAN,those clips in the preview were amazing,I remember almost falling over when I saw it for the first time at a convention!!!
Yes, I've read all of his works. We have them in our public libraries over here. So you could say I'm a fan. But the thing is, Moebius was an incredible master of implied movement. You really had the feeling that his characters moved, that they were alive, even when the scenarios were silly and the backgrounds were overdone. So, making any kind of animation seems redundant.
+Alain Gabriel I've read only a few, and quite recently, and that is true. You already see movement when reading Moebius' books. Nevertheless, it would had been also nice to see something else about how he was imagining his world. I mean sounds, for examble. Still.. you are right, it is somehow redundant.
The Fire Rises I think I've seen this video before. By the way... did you ever realized that the film "The Fifth Element" is some kind of plagiarism of "The Incal". Places, names, situations, and of course to main plot... everything is related to The Incal from the begining to the end.
To all "The Incal" fans: we are thrilled to announce the creation of a new movie trailer, fresh from the oven. Spread the word!! Subscribe to PascalBlaisChannel
I don't really know what to think about that since I've read both that moebius participated on its designs and about the sueing you talk about, but I've never read both versions in the same place. The only thing I know is that now I like moebius style cause I first liked the fifth element. It might be sad, but I first saw that movie for free in television and then paid for the incal comic that I couldn't have read any other way in my case. It's a shame it's a matter of who reaches first :(
@Majesticon Of course, that's why I recommended them. They are not animated films, they are comic strips just like the what this Incal film is based on. Do a search on Amazon for Incal 1, 2 and 3.
Thescarydutchman, I think you should take a look at Richard Corben's student animation of Neverware. that he made in the late mid 1960s. It's amazing. I just found that out two days ago. It definitely beats the segment in Heavy Metal. I am not a fan of Heavy Metal as it was conceived. Extremely low.
OMFG, how old is this? Is all hope of an animated feature dead? THIS is the HEAVY METAL movie we should have had, not that weak anthology offering nor the FAKK2 POS.
You're right about that, Thescarydutchman, and about the only segment that I did like is the bird and warrior woman only for the fact that I liked the concept of it, science fiction being my fave genre but otherwise Heavy Metal the animation is just garbage.
The first HM movie suffered from taking a bunch of unrelated stories and having the Locnar from "Den" link them all. It had no place in stories like "Captain Sterrn" or "So Beautiful and So Dangerous" -- and for that matter "So Beautiful" was completely gutted from its original form and made into a stupid, pointless short piece. Despite your obvious appreciation for "The Incal", I really have to question your standards of "awesome".
im not agree, the first heavy metal movie was awesome (FAKK2 SUCKS). On the other hand INCAL, ARZACH, and the METABARONS (another masterpiece of jodorowski), should have their own movie.
