Jammin' Jon, Necrotic Nick, Miller and Shredlord go through and rank all the full length from cavernous death metal legends Incantation! Patreon: www.patreon.com/ThrallsofMeta...
Anybody else want to to see an AxCx discography ranking? I have a feeling that video would be five minutes of laughing at song titles and talking about Seth's legendary drug habits. Though I suspect Picnic of Love and Fuckin A would end up pretty high in the rankings.
incantation are true masters of their craft, I discovered them bc John McEntee is my uncle. he is such a nice guy i was always amazed at the sound of his music. definitely fun going to holiday dinners and talking to him when he was their when i was a kid
Thank you for shouting out The Chasm. They are THE most criminally underrated death metal group on earth! Please take the thralls advice on that one folks!
THE CHASM one of the best bands coming from Aztec lands Mexico ! Daniel did a fantastic job on vocals and I think Diabolical Conquest is the best album of Incantation!
Got to mention Daniel Corchado's previous band Cenotaph 'The Gloomy Reflections Of Our Hidden Sorrows' 1992 album also...talk about a criminally underrated album!! They should have been signed by Nuclear Blast or Drowned Productions, etc!!
Necrotic Nick- We'll definitely do Immolation at some point but since they're in the studio working on new material we'll probably wait till that is released. Next up though we have Entombed/ Entombed AD which should be a lot of fun.
Immolation and Incantation have been my favorite Death Metal bands for years. Incantation reminds me of the Overkill of Death Metal. Because their albums are all consistent and similar, but both bands have had a habit of releasing a really good album after a mediocre album like one album is a just a warm up practice for the real album
I love Incantation, one of the hardest working bands in Death Metal! Diabolical Conquest is my #1 pick too, I actually saw them that year(1998,w/ Morbid Angel and Nile). I just saw them again last summer and they still bring it live!!! Great video keep it up!!!👹
Yes, finally an Incantation album ranking. Just like Asphyx and Autopsy, I love their death-doom sound. Just like Immolation, they've always been consistent and always have good albums so ranking them was difficult, but here would be my ranking: 11. Blasphemy 10. Primordial Domination 9. Decimate Christendom 8. Dirges of Elysium 7. Profane Nexus 6. Sect of Vile Divinities 5. Vanquish in Vengeance 4. Mortal Throne of Nazarene 3. Onward to Golgotha 2. The Infernal Storm 1. Diabolical Conquest
Good job guys. I love when yall do album rankings. Glad to see their latest album get some love. I was jamming that everyday for awhile when it came out.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I thought Sect of Vile Divinities was one of their strongest efforts. It was just a touch more melodic but it didn't skimp on the brutality one bit. Definitely stay tuned because we've got Entombed/ Entombed AD up next for rankings.
Necrotic Nick- Immolation is definitely one I want to tackle in the future. I'm looking forward to that new album coming out. They just dropped a video for a new track today I believe.
Mortal Throne of Nazarene is one of my favorite albums of all times, so it's obviously number 1 for me here. #1 Mortal Throne of Nazarene #2 Onward To Golgotha / Diabolical Conquest #3 The Infernal Storm When John took over the vocals the band changed. It's still fucking great, but can't compare it to their earlier albums. Pillard, Saez and Corchado handle the vocals so much better in my opinion.
Necrotic Nick- Diabolical's songwriting has always stood out to me as some of their best. Honestly, I think John McEntee was the best in terms of vocals. I think he does more with them rather than just the low, gurgled delivery. They all did a great job though. This band is pretty much fantastic on every level.
Damn, you guys are hitting all the important offerings with these Albums Ranked breakdowns. Incantation might be my fave of all time Death Metal band... and even that is a tough decision. 1. Diabolical Conquest. - Perfection or near it. And yes, I wish they played Desecration live.... 2. Mortal Throne of Nazerene (or its alt Mix reissue) Though Demonic Incarnate is a little better on the older mix for the lead sizzles. 3. Vanquish in Vengeance. I mean who doesn't love Ascend into the Eternal's breakdown lead/riff harmony? Title track is another great John riff craft masterwork. Pure Ambiance throughout. 4. Onward to Golgotha. The yardstick of all Death Doom releases 92 onwards. Memorable songs throughout. 5. Dirges of Elysium. Returns to the Mortal Throne filthy slow riffs mixed with fast riffs. I add a slight touch of post reverb effect in my mp3 player and it feels really ill. 6. Decimate Christendom. Thorns of Everlasting Persecution of course. Messy, thrashy death riffs and great voxs from John. 7. Sect of Vile Divinities. This should be higher. It does everything right. I just like the above albums better. Amazing to have this much potency this far into band career. 8. Profane Nexus. Really like the production on this album. Lux Sepulcri and Messiah Nostrum just rock this record hard. Standout songs. 9. Infernal Storm. Nocturnal Kingdom... of course. 10. Primordial Domination. Hailed Babylon is the reason I bought this album. It is actually underrated. John and Kyle really did some variable stuff here. 11. Blasphemy - Great songs but bad production. Should really get a proper remix and remaster to give it oomph. Once a Holy Throne of Course!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! We appreciate that! This is one of those bands where I think you can start just about anywhere since all their albums are pretty damn good. We're holding off on Immolation and Obituary since they're both in the studio and we want to include the new ones in the ranking after we review them. We do have Entombed/ Entombed AD coming up next though.
Another awesome video!!! Love these :) "Upon The Throne Of Apocalypse" is my favorite. Raw and unleashed death metal. My intro to Incantation was comp tracks from this release. I felt everything else was too over produced. This mix is 100X better that than the other
@@thrallsofmetal You're welcome my friend! Haha thank you I appreciate it I have heard that the last year of the 80's was a very good time for Death Metal releases
11. Decimate christendom,10. Primordial Domination, 9. Blasphemy, 8. Infernal storm, 7. Mortal throne of nazarene, 6. Onward to golgotha, 5. Diabolical Conquest, 4 Sect of vile divinities, 3 Profane Nexus, 2. Vanquish in vengence and my favorite from them, Dirges of Elysium.
I just started really getting into Incantation. I got the last album back in 2020 and really dug it. What I've heard of the new one sounds fantastic. I will agree, "Diabolical Conquest" is incredible. I also bought "Onward to Golgotha" and that is bad ass too. Great ranking video as always. Looking forward to the next one. Judas Priest, I believe.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I'm glad you dug it. We're going to wait until Immolation drops their new beast of an album since they're in the studio right now and then throw them on the list again. That'll be a tough one as well.
I discovered these guys in the mid 2000s and Diabolical Conquest has always been my go to record. It was very cool to learn that they're hometown heroes as well \m/
I've been getting into these guys more and more over the past year. I'm late to the party, but I've got 9 of their LP's on wax, and love them. They've usually got the amazing art to go along with that killer music.
Necrotic Nick- I've been a fan for a awhile and honestly it's cool just listening to this band and really hearing how influential they've been to death metal in general. There's so many bands that love that cavernous deathdoom sound and I can't see how they weren't influenced by these guys.
Another great review gentleman. Diabolical Conquest tops it for me as well. Excellent job! Begging you guys for a Dying Fetus album ranking. WE NEED IT!!!!
Necrotic Nick- Eventually we're going to do something like that again we're just trying to figure out a different spin we can put on it so we don't get a lot of retread.
Strangely I only own the first and the last Incantation albums lol, but I enjoy both, and this ranking has spurred me on to delve deeper into their discography, so thankyou for that!
Necrotic Nick- Dude, this isn't a bad time to shop for some of the ones you're missing. I think Decimate Christiandom just got a reissue recently as well as some other I believe. The whole discography is worth owning for sure.
Dude, if you wanna listen to a certain era of Incantation, go with the John McEntee-led period! Craig Pillard, who was on the first two records, has two projects, STURMFUHRER and Disma! Pillard is a giant turd for one of his projects! He's anti-Semitic!
Necrotic Nick- Not a problem, man! This band pretty much opened me up to deathdoom and filthier death metal way back. It's amazing how much stuff you hear in this bands discography that tons of bands emulate now.
Necrotic Nick- @Robert Sparling, again while Pillard is giant piece of shit, he was on some killer albums. Those first 2 Incantation albums are classics and that Disma album is amazing and still worth jamming.
Incantation is a Great band, love them. The Chasm rule. 11 Vanquish in Vengeance 10 The Infernal Storm 9 Blasphemy 8 Onward to Golgotha 7 Sect of Vile Divinities 6 Primordial Domination 5 Decimate Christendom 4 Mortal Throne of Nazarene 3 Dirges of Elysium 2 Profane Nexus 1 Diabolical Conquest I think an Immolation ranking would be sick.
Necrotic Nick- Man, I'm kinda surprised to see Vanquish in Vengeance so low but still, this band really has nothing but solid albums in my opinion which made this one difficult. We definitely want to do Immolation but since they're working on a new album we want to wait until that one drops before doing that one.
Tough time ranking the entire thing since they're mostly all amazing. However... 5. Sect of Vile Divinities 4. Dirges of Elysium 3. Golgotha 2. Diabolical Conquest 1. Mortal Throne of Nazarene
Surprised to see you guys didn't care for Blasphemy. It's always been one of my favorites. I've always said that Incantation's best albums all came out in a year ending in 2. Onward in '92, Blasphemy in '02, and Vanquish in '12. They're putting out another new album next year so needless to say I'm even more stoked than usual. Also, no mention of The Forsaken Mourning of Angelic Anguish (that I noticed hehe) makes me sad. Really killer EP in my opinion!!
Necrotic Nick- This was one of those were I liked all of their material but unfortunately some had to fall despite being solid as hell. Blasphemy got the short end of the stick for me when it came down to this even though it's loaded with killer songs. I'm always down for new Incantation especially since Sect of Vile Divinities was such a killer album. Yeah, we missed at least mentioning that EP unfortunately.
Onward was the first one I owned I bought it from a store called Coconuts in '93/'94 I think I was 13 at the time. Doesn't feel like that long ago but I guess it has been, time flies when ur jamming to metal. It's funny the last album I pre-ordered the CD with Vinyl bundle and then a couple weeks later I received the green cassette tape in the metalhead box. Tough ranking though, I have trouble picking and choosing which ones I love more cause they're all good.
Necrotic Nick- Dude! We used to have a Coconuts here back in the 90's and I shopped there all the time. I'm reasonably sure I started with Mortal Throne of Nazarene, Diabolical Conquest or The Infernal Storm. It's hard to remember since the album covers kinda blended together in my head and after I got one I got the others not long after. I actually got an orange cassette for the last one in the metalhead box not long after I got my CD and shirt bundle for the new one. lol. This one was tough for sure. Too many great albums which isn't a bad problem for a band to have.
I can't say which one is No. 1, depends on my mood, but Infernal storm is the first one I dismember and it is one of my favorite, with drums it is sometimes Curlossy Suffocation feeling in it. I also like the sound of bass on Infernal storm. Great review so many people have a different taste of music. Stay brutal
Necrotic Nick- This one was tough since I love every album and there's a lot of them that could have been my #1 for any multitude of reasons. Golgotha was close at one point just for the flat out old school death metal vibe but Diabolical just covers everything I love about Incantation. Thanks for watching, man! Brutal is they way here for sure!
Incantation rules... A few band suggestions for ranking videos if I may... W.A.S.P., Paradise Lost, Judas Priest, Accept, Bathory, Carcass, Exodus, Helloween, Kreator, Mayhem, Queensryche, Sodom, Voivod... All these bands surprised their fans a couple of times in their career and some turned out to be great, some to be disasters. And to make ranking the albums a really difficult task you could go for Overkill or Motörhead...
Looks like I'll be binging Incantation the rest of the week as I haven't heard some of these albums in years. But from memory: 1. Diabolical Conquest 2. Onward To Golgotha 3. Vanquish In Vengeance 4. Decimate Christendom (so glad this is getting reissued) 5. Sect Of Vile Divinities 6. The Infernal Storm 7. Mortal Throne Of Nazarene 8. Profane Nexus 9. Dirges Of Elysium 10. Primordial Domination 11. Blasphemy
Necrotic Nick- Not a bad band to binge at all. I had a lot of fun going through all these albums and just listening to all that sick, evil shit all the time.
In regards to the 25-26? minute long outro that is on blasphemy, I was waiting for one of you guys to mention why they actually did that but surprisingly no one mentioned the story behind it. If I remember correctly they did that as essentially a middle finger to Relapse with something regarding experimentation. Guessing Relapse started to branch out at that time looking for different genres and such kinda like roadrunner did? Idk I was like 4-5 when this came out lmao. (Actually when writing this I completely remembered reading on the Metal Archives for this album there is an explanation for the long outros kinda like what I said above but better worded.) The outros were inspired as a shot at their old label, Relapse Records, for wanting more experimental bands. For their post-Relapse debut, they included two pointless ambient outro tracks to mock Relapse's stance on "experimentation". Loved the video btw
Necrotic Nick- Thank you! I didn't do all the research on this one since it was Jon's pick but we missed that one about the nature of that ambient track. I like that it was a troll essentially but I feel like it did take away from the album and didn't come off as much of slight to Relapse. It is pretty damn funny though. lol Glad you dug the video!
I never really got into this band i did see them with dark funeral a few years ago and they were great but i think ill look more into them now. Btw that devil face when it was 666 was amazing
Necrotic Nick- This band is totally worth the deep dive. Pretty much every cavernous death metal act pretty much is inspired by Incantation I'd say. Yeah, I saw that we had the 6's lined up so I thought I'd have some fun with it. lol
Entertainment review show guys. I got into the first 2 albums in the early 90s but I did not keep up with them. Lately I started seeing John on Rock Fantasy and SOT so I started getting into there most recent album...need to check out the rest. Suggestions for future album ranking shows. Carcass, Entombed, D.R.I., C.O.C. Primus, Danzig \m/ \m/
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! John's a solid dude and I'd love to have him come by and chat here sometime. He's got a wealth of knowledge about the scene and we'd love to pick his brain. Actually Entombed/ Entombed AD is the next one on the docket so definitely stay tuned.
@@thrallsofmetal At the end of that Entombed ranking, you're probably gonna say "Unfortunately, LG Petrov died in 2021 of cancer and that put the kibosh on Entombed AD", followed by Shredlord saying "RIP. RIP LG!"
Necrotic Nick- I do love that album and it really stands out in the discography. As much as I love it though I'm a sucker for the deathdoom elements that came in later. It just made them even heavier in my opinion.
Necrotic Nick- The only times I've seen Incantation Sonny was on lead guitars and they dude killed it every time. He didn't have the double neck which would have been pretty damn cool.
@@thrallsofmetal It was ridiculous. I forget the name of his band, but just at a bar show. I was fairly young at the time and still remeber how bad ass that was.
1. Mortal Throne of Nazarene 1A. Upon the Throne of Apocalypse 2. Diabolical Conquest 3. Onward to Golgotha 4. The Forsaken Mourning of Angelic Anguish (EP) after those they're all pretty even
Necrotic Nick- I really can't remember which one I got first but it was either Diabolical Conquest, The Infernal Storm or Mortal Throne of Nazarene. The album covers kinda blended together for me. I think Diabolical was near the end of their initial run with Relapse actually.
@@thrallsofmetaldefinite, looking at their discography, they have a bunch of early stuff. I only ended up getting a few of their albums. Good for a specific mood.
Other than the bottom two this was very difficult. Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts. 11. Blasphemy 10. Primordial Domination 9. The Infernal Storm 8. Profane Nexus 7. Vanquish In Vengeance 6. Decimate Christendom 5. The Mortal Throne of Nazarene 4. Dirges of Elysium 3. Onward To Golgotha 2. Sect of Vile Divinities 1. Diabolical Conquest
Necrotic Nick- This one was pretty tough. I might be the only that really digs Primordial Domination it seems. I just dig the more groove oriented sound on that one. This band has such a killer discography though.
Necrotic Nick- It's definitely on the list but we're waiting till they drop their new one before taking that one on. They're in the studio now so that new release should be next year.
Necrotic Nick- We have Entombed/ Entombed AD up next. Immolation is working on a new album so we'll probably wait until that drops before doing a ranking.
First I saw them was with morbid Angel, Golgotha tour cycle, pillard on vox 🤘🍻🇨🇦 crushed, but now they still fucking frack our earthly plain, remember revenant....how's the fishin hank!!??? Ohhh the history , bass master , John I bet is a fishing dude
@@robertsparling917 If you count the song called "Chris Barnes Is A Pussy" then yes. 😂 Although Seth did say Murdered in the Basement was his favorite Six Feet Under Song. Kevin Sharp from Brutal Truth was also a frequent target of Seth's, even though they actually seemed to get along.
@@thrallsofmetal their catalog is huge and one of the best underrated bands that never gets mention outhere. Another good ranking talk, Malevolent Creation albums
Just saw these guy live front row in Arizona last week. Here’s my rankings. 1. Onward to Golgotha 2. Diabolical Conquest 3. Mortal Throne of Nazarene 4. Sect of Vile Divinities 5. Infernal Storm 6. Decimate Christendom 7. Blasphemy 8. Dirges of Elysium 9. Vanquish in Vengeance 10. Primordial Domination 11. Profane Nexus
I only have Sect of Vile Divinities. I'd heard of them before but never listened. I think I thought they were a black metal band or something, lol. I saw them in late 2019 with Morbid Angel and thought it was a good set so I picked up sect when they released it the next year. Its super heavy and evil and weird sounding and I fucking love it. And holy hell those are some of the best song titles I've ever seen! I can't wait to dig further in to their discography soon. Just been preoccupied with all of the new releases being dropped on us this year. Gonna get Golgotha next and I know it won't disappoint.
Necrotic Nick- I saw them on that tour with Morbid Angel as well. Great set. I've been a fan for a long time and between them and Immolation they really expanded my listening when it came down to death metal in general. It might have been my first real exposure to deathdoom honestly. That new one is one of their best in my opinion so you picked a great place to start. They have an incredible discography in general so there really are no wrong albums to get in my opinion. Golgotha is a beast though so you targeted a monster for you next one.
@@thrallsofmetal Pretty much everyone says that's the go to so I figured it's a good place to start. Funny thing is I've been a huge Immolation fan since I discovered death metal in 03' but somehow Incantation flew under my radar this whole time. It's cool to still be discovering new old school bands at this point though, lol. And you guys have spurred me to quit sleeping on it and finally get me some more after 9 months of listening to sects.
Hey Nick my bro I've just got to tell that I love onward to golgotha and diabolical conquest but the latest album SECT OF VILE DEITIES is totally awesome whatvalbums do you like let me know what's your favorite incantation album keep it metal bro 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 Opps I just realized that Nick loves both diabolical conquest and SECT of VILE DEITIES is totally awesome
Necrotic Nick- Next one is actually Entombed/ Entombed AD. Since Immolation is in the studio we want to wait until the new one drops before throwing them back on the list.
I only have the early Relapse records releases and like them. Saw them play main support for Morbid Angel Nov. '19, and they were the better band that night.
Necrotic Nick- I saw them on that same tour in Detroit and they killed it. It's definitely worth picking up pretty much their entire discography in my opinion but I'm a giant fanboy.
I don't see how anyone hears much similarity between Incantation and Immolation aside from the fact that they both band names start with "I", have four syllables and end in "ation". To me their sounds are VERY different
There has never been a single album ever recorded that is more f-ing evil than Mortal Throne of Nazarene. That record is pure unadulterated disease from below
Necrotic Nick- I do have a favorite but I really enjoy all their albums honestly. I think this was on the same level as Cannibal Corpse in terms of difficulty. They're both super consistent and didn't change around their sound much or buckle to the pressure of trends either. I love bands like that but it makes them tougher to rank for sure.
Necrotic Nick- Well, missed that one I guess. lol. Sorry, man. Jon was pretty exhausted from work and might have just missed that one. I know when we saw you with them in Flint with Dying Fetus, Gatecreeper and Genocide Pact you guys tore it the fuck up. Thanks for commenting, bro!
Necrotic Nick- Glad you dug that. Shred's Italian so we wanted to do something fun with that. I'll definitely be on the lookout for Arise from Worms though. Stay brutal, bro!
Whoever made the decision to stick like 20+ minutes of worthless outros at the end of the "blasphemy" album needs dropkicking out a goddamn airlock because that album scorches the very air otherwise. "Crown of decayed salvation" is one of the most ferocious cuts they've ever put to fucking tape so far as I'm concerned.
Necrotic Nick- I never got that choice either. It's like they thought there wasn't enough atmosphere on the album so they just threw it all in one track.
@@thrallsofmetal HI I'M JOHN MCENTEE WELCOME TO JACKASS TODAY IMMA STICK WHAT FEELS LIKE A HUNDRED YEARS OF POINTLESS AMBIENT BULLSHIT AT THE END OF MY OTHERWISE SUPERLATIVE ALBUM FOR NO READILY EXPLICABLE REASON BEYOND THE POSSIBILITY THAT MY MOTHER DRANK HEAVILY DURING PREGNANCY asinine decision from a band with a discography as masterful as incantation.
Necrotic Nick- This one was a tough one to rank because I love all their albums but Diabolical Conquest has pretty much always been my go to. I do love the shit out of Onward to Golgotha though. I like that it's a more straight forward death metal album.
The sum of the positions produces the final score (obviously, the lowest rated albums are the highest ranked) Diabolical Conquest 6 Sect of Vile Divinities 12 Onward To Golgotha 14 Mortal Throne of Nazarene 21 Vanquish in Vengeance 22 Decimate Christendom 24 Dirges of Elysium 27/ The Infernal Storm 27 Profane Nexus 33 Primordial domination 36 Blasphemy 42
