Hello Everyone, thank you for joining me for another episode of Antonios Movie Reviews. Today I have a movie review on Indecent Proposal 1993 Starring Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson. Directed by Adrian Lyne.
David (Woody Harrelson) and Diana Murphy (Demi Moore) are a loving couple with a bright future. David is a talented architect; Diana is a top-notch real estate agent. But when the recession hits, their finances take a nosedive. In a last-ditch effort to save their dream home, they head to Las Vegas to win their mortgage money gambling. After they lose everything, a mysterious billionaire (Robert Redford) offers the solution to their money problems: $1 million -- if he can sleep with Diana.

Also, this movie shows that if john Gage was a selfish person he would never let David have Diana back into his life. This is shown at least at two instances in the movie. Firstly, at the auction scene when David raised the bid to a million dollar, John intentionally let David have the upper hand so that he could win. He could have easily raised the bid above a million dollar as he knew David could not bid above that. It was because of John's good heart that he did not counter David's bid as he wanted David to let Diana have that Hippo as a parting gift from him. Secondly, after observing David and Diana at the auction table, he noticed that David truly loved his wife as even after what had happened since the "proposal" , he had signed on the divorce papers happily so that his wife can be happy. Finally, after observing all this, he decided to end the relationship in the car by ingeniously plotting false image of him into Diana's mind. If that had not happened, Diana would not have a change of heart. Conclusion : (1) Diana had stopped loving David after the "proposal" as she was genuinely attracted to John. (2) David always loved Diana as he first tried to get her back and was even brave enough to let her go after she sent divorce papers. (3) John Gage was a good person at heart.

Same here. I was 13 when this movie was released and it just bored me as I didn't really understand it at the time. Watching it as an adult, I can see that it's quite a depressing movie, especially with how it ended with them on the bench on the pier. They are both keen on trying to go back to the way things were but they both know this will be almost impossible and so all they can do is try their best to salvage what they once had.

Great insight as to the meaning of the end scene, I can definitely think of it that way as well. To have none of the money at the end was also ironic too because thats how they began. I feel like i'd have behaved the same way when she took off on that helicopter though ! Thanks for watching Andrew!

I feel like you reaction as a 13 year old was a reaction one would aspire to as an adult. A 13 year old carried the apathy to unpleasantness that an adult would want to carry. It is kind of ironic too that sometimes our younger selves display more maturity.

I liked the movie as well, it's a real test that one should never do especially if you've been together more then 20 years at least, been through it all and then some, broke or not, not even for large sum..the trust is lost and broken if your partner did..

I Love this movie ! It had a unique twist and the music score by John Barry was phenomenal ! David flipped out playing the victim but they both agreed to make the deal ! Gage knew what he was doing . Once they had sex he used this as a tool to break there marriage . Gage told her straight out , I wouldn’t share you with anybody !

Yes I remember when the movie came out as well. The previews made it look like it'd be the most sultriest/passionate thing you'd watch. In reality you know it wasn't a bad movie but not really the case. I too wasn't old enough to understand then all the adult dialogue in it. My favorite Demi Moore movie is No Small Affair. One of her first films

Good review! I remember when this movie came out I was around 9 or 10 and thought by the cover art and title that it was going to be some type of erotic thriller similar to Basic Instinct or Body of evidence or basically any of those early 90s trashy thrillers. My mom owned all of those and my siblings and I would sneak an watch em when she wasn't home lol. We put this on and my brothers quickly got bored as it didn't have the sex scenes or nudity that they were hoping for but I was enthralled with the plot. I didn't (and still don't) find Robert Redford attractive and his pushy character instantly annoyed me and still does, but I contemplated what I would've done if confronted with such an offer. 10 yr old me decided I would likely go for the million. I defended Diana's character when my brother called her a slut and said she deserved it when David yelled at her after finding Redfords card in her wallet. I pointed out that David also agreed to let his wife sleep with Redford so both were at fault. Fast forward 20 something years later and as a now married woman I despise Redford's character even more (buying their dream home was the lowest thing he could do) Like you pointed out, I don't understand why Diana runs right to him after her fight with David. I know he pursues her and she was already attracted to him but eh I don't know. I could not imagine doing that to my husband. I would fight tooth and nail to repair our marriage rather than get with Redford. It just doesn't make sense considering how long Diana and David had been together and how passionate they were with one another. It's obvious Redford was out to steal Diana the moment he laid eyes on her. And all that drama just for the money to go to a hippo? Oh, hell no. I loved this film in my childhood and preteen years but from an adult perspective it just seems silly. Its still entertaining though, and I still love Demi Moore's look in this film.

HAHA '90s trashy thrillers' you have me all figured out :D I like Body of Evidence as well, there are a lot that I have yet to do, that and Sliver are definitely on my list. This was definitely was definitely different from as adults perspective as you said; it's almost like their love had never "grown up" the way they did as people, it just stayed in its high school form with the "have i told you how much i love you" and all of those kinds of things. Me being the guy that I am I'd have been just like David, constantly thinking about them two long after it was over. I agree with your brother, she shouldn't have had that card! Wouldn't appease him by saying it was bad sex or anything, either. She was smitten honestly. I appreciate your comments, a valuable commodity!
@winterlynn9012
@winterlynn9012 3 года назад
@@Antonio_ Thank you! And yes now adult me agrees with David's character and can only imagine how shitty it must feel to know your spouse is off spending the night with a suave, "smooth " millionaire. I'd definitely be reacting like David and now from a married adult's perspective I agree that Diana deserved what she got when David flipped out. I don't recall if they show how she got Redford's card in her wallet, I always remember thinking that they left that open to viewer interpretation but now I believe she kept it subconsciously. Maybe her intentions were to never see Redford again but she was definitely smitten as you put it. And I agree, their relationship never evolved past high school. I think in real life they would have split for good and eventually Diana would have been left by Redford for another younger, prettier woman. And David could have found someone else and enjoyed the million dollars with her. Lol. Of course Hollywood had to get them back together though. And awesome! I'm looking forward to Sliver! I liked Body of evidence too! Definitely looking forward to that. I have to check out your videos on Wild things and Single white female (love those films) Some suggestions for more 90s erotic and semi erotic thrillers are "The Last Seduction 1994" and "Consenting adults 1992"(featuring an early role from Kevin Spacey) and "Intersection" 1994 another one with Sharon Stone. Sorry I ramble a lot when I start talking about movies lol. I definitely miss the early to mid 90s thrillers! They don't quite make em like that anymore sadly !
@Antonio_
@Antonio_ 3 года назад
@@winterlynn9012 You're not rambling at all ! I honestly can't see Demi being as humble of a person as she portrayed in this movie, she just honestly seems like she would hurt a guys feelings in real life ! Every movie Woody plays in, he always seems to have the same personality in a different variation; like this humble nice guy who's always smiling. When I say that about Demi i'm thinking of that part in this film when she's like "David and I never really had much money.. " and he used to take her out to show her great architecture; it just seemed like she was saying it in a "we make the best of whats around" kind of way, like she'd rather be doing something else-- when the thing is, thats what David would be doing anyway with or without money i feel like. This is great, I love Consenting Adults.. I don't know why I didn't think of that wow. Theres a song in my head from that movie from years and years ago from when Kevin Kline was singing on the piano and hes like "funnnn in the sun, fun fun fun in the sun" lol see I can ramble too. I have been thinking of Linda Fiorentino for the last few weeks; i've been attracted to her since Jade lol..you're great inspiration, thanks a ton for your reply

@@Antonio_ what I didn’t like from Diana,she knew that John snatched the house that she and her husband had dreamed of so much, and when she wanted to buy it back from him,he arrogant and sarcastic told her,the house now worth two millions and you can’t afford it, so she hated him so much for destroying their dreams. But despite all this,she went to live with him anyway.and later on she asked her husband for the divorce.. True love for her husband ?????
@Antonio_
@Antonio_ 3 года назад
@@turco1655 I totally agree with you there, that part of Diana truly hurt my soul. It gives an agonizingly authentic depiction of the conundrum they were truly in though. It's like Gage wanted what THEY had all along; I feel like thats why he truly even offered Diana the deal.. there had to have been at least one other woman there who was single lol. I also hate how we're left so empty in that regard; they never showed any feelings of love between Redford and Moore, at least I don't remember any?

FOR ME, it was Demi. But, I can see how they could both be at fault here. Truthfully, I think this movie is so accurate as to the outcome of the situation. yeah I mean I wouldn't say the terms were quite that clear though, it was simply "a night with your wife" sort of thing from what I gathered. But I mean come on even in 2021, we're talking about a million bucks; I don't think I could do it if I were Woody in this sense, but irl....

I don’t care how hard times are, I don’t care if the dude only has 1 inch. I’ve been cheated on or left for another man by every girl I’ve thought I had before. There is no pain like that, and the idea of “what if this one cheats on me down the road anyway? Why wouldn’t I take half a million to let it happen this time?” If you had asked me this in my last relationship I would have said yes in a heartbeat because I knew that one wasn’t going to last from day one. But when you’ve been through hell in every past relationship and really feel like you’ve found love and loyalty, that is not something money can buy. I appreciate the fact they were highschool sweethearts for this reason. Lack of experience that would eventually lead up to their gratitude for what they once had that will forever be stained is one thing that makes this movie great to me.
