After a last-place finish at Rio 2016, India’s women’s hockey team finished in fourth place at #Tokyo2020 after going down to reigning champions Great Britain in the bronze medal match. Despite losing 4-3, Savita Punia’s heroic saves, Gurjit Kaur’s brace and Vandana Katariya’s field goal made it a closely fought match.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games are taking place in Japan, from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021.

No one at the beginning thought they can enter quarterfinals. No one thought that they can beat Australia, a very strong team and enter semifinals. No one thought they will play great against Argentina. They were really improved greatly compare to first few matches. They fought neck to neck with British team. World's 9th ranked team eliminate and gave tension to top teams. Yes, they have room for improvement, especially in stamina and fitness. We really need to groom young boys and girls into sports from schools and college levels. The sports sector in india needs to generate enough hope and confidence amongst youth to encourage them to venture in this field. And of course necessary infrastructure,coaching, safe and corruption free institutions needs to be developed where talent and merit is given the priority.
