Mad Mikkelson gets knocked off a 50mph train by a lineside water crane, and he survives intact. I know of at least 3 accidents where train drivers or passengers were decapitated when leaning out of windows, going at 10-20mph.

This is the same franchise where a guy got his heart removed but still survived 15 minutes to be descended into a volcano. Or how about the time he survived falling 2,000 feet out of a plane in an inflatable raft? This franchise isn’t known for its realism. It’s based on the pulp magazines of the 1930s - 50s. That’s why it made sense for Aliens and soviets to be the subject of Crystal Skull if they were going to jump forward 20 years. Indiana Jones really ought to be looked at like a comic book movie.

I found that goofy as well, as someone who didn’t see the trailer I was getting confused about who was the villain since all the antagonists died in the intro, (obviously Voller would’ve died in any realistic scenario) and was shocked that it was actually Voller
@maryanneayumi9594
@maryanneayumi9594 11 месяцев назад
I speculate that the reason why Jurgen Voller doesn’t want to kill Indy is because he has a slight respect for the old man and because they are both Doctors, one is a Physicist and the other one is a Historian. You can see how Voller always mention Indiana Jones’ title “Doctor” when he mentions his name. Also how Voller treats Indie during their entrance to the vortex when Voller carefully lift Jones back to his seat.
@squamish4244
@squamish4244 2 месяца назад
He also wants Jones to be witness to his triumph. Proves he is the superior intellect of the only man he considers a worthy adversary. Of course he doesn't want to kill him. Fallacy of the talking villain and all that.

“Confusing time travel” in the film, it is stated that archamedes specifically designed the antikythera to only transport people who use it to his time, around 212 BC. This explains why it didn’t transport Voller and his crew to wartime Germany.

For Indy being still spry, I always and will (even though they didn't write it this way), that those few sips and drink from the Holy Grail keeps his somewhat youthful. Back in Last Crusade they make a point to say that when the two knights left for France after 150 years, they both died of extremely old age. So that tells me drinking from the Grail if you break the seal doesn't make you immortal but it does extend your life. So maybe you can say, Indy just having a drink from it did something to him. Like no arthritis or osteoporosis set in. In his 70s, he'd feel like his early 50s. Something to that effect. No immortal but he'd feel more youthful in his older age. No sicknesses ever set in. No cancer, etc.
@squamish4244
@squamish4244 2 месяца назад
The knights didn't die immediately either. They made it to Europe. At 170 years old at least. So I'll buy it. Besides the fact that Ford didn't do anything too unbelievable for an 80-year-old who has ridiculously good genetics and physical fitness, as we always knew Ford had. Ford also probably has some modern 'Holy Grail' help like TRT to look so jacked for his age but so what. Indy drank from the Grail!

Another confusing moment is where Teddy, who told Helena that he knows how to start it when asked if he could fly that plane, seems to effortlessly fly it through a raging storm. That's something that experienced pilots very familiar with the handling of that specific aircraft would have to work hard to do.
@planetofsoundpodcast9859
@planetofsoundpodcast9859 9 месяцев назад
the planes were also being drawn into the vortex, Voller's plane couldn't turn around. So yeah, it's questionable that Teddy could keep the plane going in the storm, but when we consider it's getting pulled in that explains some of that. As soon as they exit the portal Teddy is nosediving, and the sleeping pilot helps take over and regain control from then on out.

Oh and last head scratcher. Having a black CIA officer with Voller's men. She's dressed somewhat like what a black panther member would wear back in the day. In real life the CIA did plant agents in the Black Panther movement. But they were all black. Here, knowing Voller's ties to Nazi germany, the government would've put someone more passing for them. A blond very attractive agent in their midst. Who spoke German, etc. to make them feel at ease and she can play the game of still wanting the Reich to reign again.

This was so much fun and such a fitting conclusion, I just didn't care, like with the others.

Ronaldo told him anyone can swim, just push and pull, keep head above water and keep kicking. Although yes, it shouldn't have been easy for the kid to swim underwater and hold his breath in this dire situation without ever swimming before. I didn't like that whole set up. All they had to do with the kid was when he's on the boat he was told to stay behind and watch over them, their lines in the water, etc. Like you're too young for this dangerous dive, he'd object, fight over it but ultimately be left on the boat. He could had a quick throw away line, like you know how good a swimmer I am Helena, when I pick pocket that guy swimming with his family. Something to that effect. And a classic response, we need you to watch over us.
@marcellotanca5173
@marcellotanca5173 10 месяцев назад
When I realized they were going to time travel, I thought the ending would tie back into the opening sequence of the film. I think you misunderstand what the dial is supposed to do. It's basically just a computer, making complex calculations about where and when time fissures occur. The time fissures are (in this universe) just natural, albeit rare, phenomena, and it's up to the characters to get in place to use them.
@jamesosteen09
@jamesosteen09 11 месяцев назад
And in this case the dial only detects fissures that go back to the battle of Syracuse. It doesnt allow users to go to different points in time like Dr. Voller believed.

The guard getting knocked out and not notice makes some sense. They were being bombed and it is very likely some would be killed or injured. So a body laying on the ground would raise a lot of suspicion.
@ShortRound42
@ShortRound42 10 месяцев назад
Right, that's the first head scratcher. None of the Nazi officers saw him hit the guy and/or pull him out of the car and he's laying on the ground right there. I know people say, oh, it's dark, confusion with all the insane activity going on. Bombs have been dropped, etc. All the director had to do was this car was in a darkened alley alcove, etc. near where the officers are coming out. Just a little time Indy pulls the driver into the darkened alleyway and he just gets in while the officers just come out of a doorway. It would've been very simple.

I really hatted how he treated Basil like a kook. Indy should know, yes, it's possible and not dismiss his friend. Especially after almost the same thing happened to Oxely. I know they said he was believing in his research but after so long and no concrete evidence he got fed up with Basil's obsession. I do get that in the writing so it's kinda' explained a bit.

My question is Wouldn’t Voller be born again if he died in 212bc. It would make sense if he died in 1969, then he wouldn’t have a chance coming back. But if you die way before your born. And not disrupting his family’s space time continuum, Wouldn’t you be born again? Are am i overthinking it. Plus how did vollers watch get in archimedes tomb? Did the event already happen (meaning voller died in 212 and archmedes used the watch as a reference to complete the dial) and they are just reliving the event again without realizing it at the end the movie?
@KobaLenk
@KobaLenk 8 месяцев назад
From what I understand is they were in a timeloop, they were destined to keep meeting each other over and over again. Archimedes took Voller' watch which ended up inside the tomb and Archimedes recognizing his dial and acknowledging he and Indy were always going to meet. It's still confusing how the timeloop had started in the first place. And besides to the Greeks, Voller was just an nameless casualty most likely going to be thrown in a bonfire so his presence wouldn't have affected his bloodline in the future. Voller in the present day would be reported missing and forgotten.

Though it's just basically like with Crystal Skull, people just using bad faith and cherrypicking and take things from an adventure fantasy film way too seriously. While true, there are some that feel a little too far-fetched, but why can't we apply the same logic with the other previous films? You see the problem with this? Even though I do agree with the last part of the resolution being a bit rushed.

And why not go back in time, get loaded up with another plane and come back again?
