Tv would never allow him to be the David we have all grown to love to watch, I’d rather donate license money to all the RU-vidrs I watch. At the end of the day we all love how he keeps it simple and doesn’t use all the fancy stuff that tv chefs use. Spreading the word and getting kids to watch the channel is a good start .
Ah yes, so today I've made the pastry and the filling... Tomorrow we combine them and feast... Smells amazing, can't wait! Mash, carrots and peas on the side
With todays cost of living, you would most definitely be helping so many families and individuals with your cheap and delicious recipes. Hats off to you sir! 👏
Thank you, this looks delicious. A comparable pie from my local bakery is AUD7.50, and the meat seems to be "glued" into the pie with a substantial amount of either gelatine or cornflour thickened gravy and way less meat than your pie.
Good morning sweet gentleman thank you for this delicious steak and ale pie recipe made my mouth water I do love a good pie I really enjoy watching your channel well explained recipes you break down the cost of ingredients I live on a budget so really appreciate your recipe ideas thank you once again much appreciated
Wonderful recipe Dave keep em coming mate - I whipped up some of your rock cakes last Sunday 👍came out awesome - and don’t the grandkids love them 👍cheers mate
Another great recipe, I love a steak and ale pie. My hubby often likes a homemade goulash would be great if you filmed making the goulash. This is what has been lost over the years cooking wholesome home cooked meals. I almost always cook from scratch. Although I haven't attempted a homemade chicken kiev yet! My nan had pyrex plates that she cooked her pies on. She had a red one for savoury pies and a teal coloured one for sweet pies. School cookery lessons are not as good quality in terms of actual skills/meals taught as when I went to school.
Brilliant work! I used to do a similar recipe but with leeks and I would use a hoppy IPA for a stronger flavour. I also used to buy the pastry ready made because I was never confident to make it from scratch.
slowly working my way through your videos. I take a lot of insperation from your videos. Good to see you mention where you bought the beef. Cooking on a budget is as much about the ingredients as it is the recipie.
Here is a tip if you want to reduce the liquid in a recipe. Leave the lid off the pan and have an electric fan blowing across it. The steam will blow away rapidly and you can turn the heat up and it will not boil. This method will remove the excess water surprisingly quickly.
Consider adding a large pinch of dried mustard (1 p - maybe?) to the beef and ale. You won't actually taste the mustard, but it enhances the beef and ale flavor wonderfully!
Yet Another gem dave, never made these pies before, but will now following your tutorial. Dave is there any advantage to using egg wash rather than milk please..... Brill video, as always. Michelle.
Hi ive never done steak and ale pies before, grateful for a brilliant recipe. Could i ask if you chose to freeze would you freeze befor cooking or after. Thanks Sam
@BakingOnABudget thank you for replying. I love your pod casts good wholesome food on a budget. Just me and my teen and I find it valuable. Please film the goulash. Sam
is it similar to "drunken stew" without potatoes? that's really good. When the plan is to freeze some of the pies, the chimney (steam release hole) becomes the initial of the filling. ie, S A. or C. or. T. steak n ale, chick or tourtieres. 😁
Excellent video and recipe. These look fantastic. I'd be interested to know roughly what sort of meat content % this has compared to a supermarket one. The supermarket equivalent is approx 50p more expensive than yours, but thats about 1/3rd meat weight wise and full of all sorts of other rubbish
@@BakingOnABudget Absolutely. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where was it you got that large chopping board? That looks very useful and I wouldn't mind getting one myself
Hi, you always make such smashing dishes and these pies look particularly delicious 😋 May I ask where you got your pastry board please? (at 5:50) I'm looking for one just like it. Many thanks 😊
Any tips for picking an ale for this recipe? I don't know anything about alcohol: once ruined a batch of beer bread because I had no idea how bitter IPAs are.
or put double the meat in and at £2.28 a pie still a complete bargain and a luxury! I would never buy a shop pie - they cannot compete. Actually I pop a tablespoon of red lentils into my stewing meat for bulk and texture. I'd put some carrot and mushroms in there too. Always like to sneak in my 5 a day where I can.
