If that doesn't give you goosebumps you don't have a pulse. Great race, and great view! You never really get an idea of how fast they're going until you have a seat like that.

This video is perfect! I can now see that Sato actually had a little room. Tough luck for him but he should've waited until turn 3.

I have to say, I'm jealous. I was sitting in Turn 4 (site of last years' final lap excitement when I was sitting closer to pit-out), so of course this year all of the action happened in Turn 1. You had a great view of a lot of good racing and incidents.

I don't know what that guy was complaining about...you took some GREAT footage here. You did alot better than I did. was in the Southwest Vista Deck with the sun behind my back making the viewfinder impossible to the point where I am just aiming at the silhouette of the grandstands and track. I got the smoke from the spin, but I guess I got so excited I jerked my camera and missed the rest of it. You did darn good.

The Japanese broadcast of the last couple of laps is OUTSTANDING. It was taken down due to copyright issues, … or some such B.S. If you get a chance to watch it … DO. Absolutely a great take on the finish - even if you don't understand a word of Japanese … PARTICULARLY if you don't understand a word of Japanese. Here's hoping Sato is able to recreate this magic in the years to come - would have loved to have seen him win that race (for himself, and for AJ).

We aren't seeing the last of Sato. I'm a big fan now and I think we are going to see him in victory lane a lot in the coming years.

Ha ha you missed the impact! Not bad though, at least you had your camera running for it. My camera missed all the crashes.

The blocking rule is stated that you may take any line you like, but you may not change your line to defend it. Had this been last year, Brian Barnhart would have had to call blocking, as his rule was that you couldn't take a different line than usual to defend yourself, basically meaning you had no choice but to let the attacking car by. Now both Barnhart and that rule are gone. Beaux Barfield is the new race director and has done well so far.

I used to be a Dario fan (he wasn't my favorite, but I did cheer for him).... Until this. He has had a tendency to punt people into the wall lately (which is why everyone was booing). I was also at this race (but in Turn 4), and I couldn't understand why there was no penalty to Dario for causing avoidable contact (blocking rules are really reserved for road courses). This is a great angle and maybe the minor contact was after the spin. Still dirty by Dario, too much squeezing.

If you look at Franchitti's top-car camera, you can see Sato coming up behind him, then simply got loose and spun just as he reached Franchitti's back wheel. He had plenty room to pass on the inside.

in indy car there is a hold your line rule, so if you have the line before entering the turn you are allowed to hold that line (i.e. you dont have to move out of the challenger's way) but if you move to block another's line that they have established, then that is a penalty

Commentators were stating that Takuma's car didn't have enough downforce back at turn 4 and 3.

I really don't agree with people saying that he had the race won. He pushed way to hard into that turn and he lost the car. If he'd keep his cool and waited a bit longer, he definitely could've beaten Franchitti.

Agreed. He proved that he's a good oval racer with that performance. It's a shame the stats show him finishing way down instead of at least 2nd place.

dario didn't block him, dario went high to let the guy get through, but sato chose his line poorly, he dove down too low on the track, and EVERYONE that tried that that day ended up in the wall. All Sato had to do was sit behind him for one more turn then pass dario on the back stretch. He could have done it, had he been patient.

Dario actually left plenty of room-Sato was still above the white line, there was just too much speed to hold it from the tight approach angle and Franchitti was lucky by inches not to get taken out too. Only thing I didn't like was the race ended on yellow, that's 3 for Franchitti-all under yellow.

The rule is that you can take a line to defend your position, which in this case could be argued. Did Dario block? I'm not sure, but its the last lap of the Indy 500. If someone tries to pass you for the win, you'd do the same thing. By the way, I think you should start watching IndyCar, seriously 2012 was the best season of racing I've ever seen

I was there, 1st. turn and yes I DID boo when dario won, only cause I wanted Tony K to win; or anyone BUT franchitti.

im sure there is, but nothings was called. I didn't see anything wrong. it seems that Takuma pushed too hard and spun out. he passed the white line on the track and was trying to squeeze in a spot he could'nt fit in........he admits it himself lol. he said it was the last lap and that was his only shot of taking first. so he went for it and failed. :)

Dario didn't cause the accident. You can clearly see that there was no contact between him and Sato before the incident, or at all for that matter. They both went through the turn hard, as one expects a pro-racer to do. Sato, who's car had been loose all day with low down force, lost it trying to go through the turn. Dario did nothing wrong and deserved no penalty.

How can anyone watch this video and still call Dario dirty?.... That just smacks of sour grapes and based purely on whether they like Dario or not.... This video proves there was room. Get over it you boo-ing cry babies... I was in turn 1 and I cheered plenty for a great win... Give the man the credit he deserves for coming from the back of the field after being punted down pit lane.
