I really like Ines, she seemed to be a really special person, and not a bad player. This is her best move, with at least 6 guards ahead of her on the debth chart, she would have gotten little or no play again. She deservers better. Good luck Ines.
She signed in August right before school started because of injuries. Her other option was going JUCO. This was a win win for both parties. UConn got the body they needed and Ines got two years at a legendary program. There are no losers here.
100% agree. I am sure there are no hurt feelings anywhere….except for us fans that enjoyed her play, but who knows where she will end up…could be somewhere I could see her play live.
Ines just had no choice but to go. When coaches talked to media saying we had only 7 available players when Ines made 8. They were telling her go to the portal. She was loved by all so this will give her the chance she needs....Good luck I will follow her.
Ines always played with heart and energy. In the short amount of playing time she got she always made something positive happen. Any other team in the Big East would be lucky to get her.😊
Ines didn't fail here. She was brought in for backup insurance. She hit big pressure free-throws against Princeton last year. She was there if needed. She gained valuable experience. She practiced against great players. That should help her future.
I feel totally different about ines than I do about Amari. Ines was an emergency signing and she ultimately saved UConn from forfeiting games. She is a 2 or 3 star talent. And that’s why it hasn’t worked out. But I think she gave everything to the program. Geno will never have a rotation of 14-15. So, I was okay with Ines staying for 2 more years filling one of those spots. But she is one of Portugal’s better young players and she wants to play! And that’s the best reason for transferring. Can’t hate on that.
It must have been terribly disappointing to be at UCONN. But, who would know? We had freshmen as starters this year. Wonder why she wasn't one of them? I hope she finds a place where she can play much more than she did at UCONN.
Not fast or a great leaper. Not a great ball handler or scorer. Not a great defender. But she will never cheat you on effort. With the limited time she got into games at UConn, about every other game she would have a highlight hustle play. Wishing her good luck and all the best. Enjoyed your hustle while at UConn.
Lucy Olsen in the portal from Villanova was contacted by UConn, 1 yr of eligibility left. No word on any forwards they have contacted, which is more of need. A 1 or 2 yr eligibility left experienced big is ideal.
Geno loves Lucy Olsen. He probably started to call her immediately as soon as he saw she was in the portal. Other coaches would have had to talk him down and remind there are other positions that need to be filled. 😂
We have plenty of guards. She has one year of eligibility left. We need BIGS. If Geno wants another guard. There is one ESPN ranked player left on the board. It's #16 Imari Berry. Not to be confused with Amari DeBerry. Geno would have 4 years to mold her into what he wants.
@arthur-ri4zo Yes they need an experienced big for short term. They also wouldn't mind having another primary ball handling guard. The underclassmen guards other than KK are not on ball guards. Ducharme and Fudd if healthy arent either. 1 yr eligibility is not a detriment, it's an asset till the 2 sophomores and 2 incoming freshmen guards develop. If they were supposedly looking at Chen, Olsen is better. Berry eliminated UConn from her finals list before picking Clemson, then decommitting recently with the coaching change.
She was added due to a lack of players two years ago. It was too bad she didn't play more and thus establish herself on court. But she had to learn a great deal by being with the Huskies. I hope Geno helps her get into a program that will be good for her. I hope he makes some calls.
Ines was a loyal soldier of the Huskies and Geno. She gave her best in the limited time she was given to play. I wish her the best and wish she was not going. 🏀 As for Amari, I was happy as could be when she came to Storrs. But quickly soured on her after seeing the lack of effort time after time. I feel the game was to quick for Amari at this level. I am looking forward to the fourth game of this upcoming season. Geno will pass Tara as the all time NCAA wins leader in basketball for men and women. Ines reminds me of Briana "Polly" Pulido. Polly was a walk on that did what was needed. Anything to help the team. Even if it was only to fill out a practice team. Practiced hard knowing that she'd only play when the team was ahead by 25 points. I still remember that 3 pointer. Polly buried a jumper in front of the UConn bench in the final minutes of the National Championship game win against Syracuse on April 5, 2016. I remember the team going crazy, including the coaching staff.
Inês needs to go to Providence College. She would stay in the Big East and play against her friends at least twice a year. There is also a huge Azorean community in the area, especially in Fall River. Plus there is much more to do in Providence and nearby Newport than in Storrs. I think she would love playing for PC.
7:20 I agree 100% with the statement. Gene and DC constantly brought up her lack of effort when it came to practice. Geno has always believed that your attention and effort on the practice court will amplified in a game. You heard Geno say after she did well in a game; he says she doesn't bring that type of energy at practice.
you can tell both these players are ready to explode....uconn always has injury issues..i can't wait to see both at another school....please come to tcu!!!!
There is A LOT of chatter on Twitter about a major player about to enter the portal. Could be a bunch of trollin', but the next few days will be interesting for sure.
UConn has a max 15 wbb scholarships and 10 are being used by returning players, not counting Bettencourt and DeBerry. I believe 3 players have already committed to UConn for 2024/2025, so if Bettencourt and DeBerry were still on scholarship, the roster would be full.
As great of a shooter Fudd is i think the history of her injuries would cause other schools not to look at her. UConn may be it for her because nobody is going to want to take the chance on giving her a scholarship only for her to get injured and then her turning 21 makes her eligible for the Wnba
She came in to play to back up Nika after paige went down. She knew why she was brought in. A team will definitely pick her up because she isn't a bad PG
At least Betancourt gave an honest effort, DeBerry didn't. She just didn't have the will to play better. I don't think Ines was given the opportunity to really learn the game and contribute. Even Nika wasn't all that when she started.
