Your comment touches home. I'm on medication and some 'regular' therapy, but skating have definitely had a lot to do with my recovery. I'm even lowering meds since I engaged inline skating as a daily and extremely passionate activity. It's an exercise and way of transportation so exigent, so complete, and so much fun... I think it should be almost mandatory for depression 😊 By the way, it's been a while since your comment, how are you doing? Greetings from Spain.

21 and ive never been into any sports. I have a gym membership but i find it really dull and I dont have the motivation to just lift or run all day only to be in agony for the next 3 days. Im naturally built well but im not fit and that feels like such a waste. I read skating is a great way of losing weight (looks fun, and ive ice skated a few times) and after stumbling upon these videos I instantly thought: why the hell shouldnt I just order a pair of skates? Ive ordered them and im like a 8 year old on christmas eve, I cant wait to get started! here comes the cuts and bruises!

Been skating since 10 y.o. and even now as a 27 y.o. I enjoy it greatly. can vouch for the fact that you will tone your core, legs, and upper arms if you make a regular habit of skating. It eventually gets to the point (after your muscles and cardio are trained) that you almost feel as though you can skate endlessly and have to force yourself to go home at some point.

Funny this video came out. Inline skating for me is such a mental thing (even though I'm not quite fit). Whenever I'm feeling down, the dopamine release from a 10 minute skate is extraordinary, not to mention the adrenaline rush when I come off a curb incorrectly.

HI. I skate really regularly, like three or four times a week for an hour plus each time. I don't vary my course enough, but I do go out of my way to hit hills. I did this routine for several years and remained about 10 -15 lbs heavier than I should have been. I let myself eat more cause I was exercising so regularly. I didn't loose the pounds till I cut added sugar out of my diet. I think once you hit a certain age, exercise alone will not right-weight you. You have to watch your caloric intake, even if you're skating regularly.

I always enjoy when you discuss the more technical side of how skating (and a workout) affects the body. Hopefully there will be more to come this winter! I find that a good explanation of how skating affects the muscular and skeletal systems requires a good bit of jargon...any good sites for brushing up on my physiology?

Thanks for the video. I decided to go out for a hard skate the day after thanksgiving to burn off some calories. Going against my typical inclination I took to the streets to see how fast and hard I could push my skates. I only lasted about 35 minutes before I could feel every muscle surrender but man was it a blast. I cant wait to go back out as soon as the rain passes.

Great video 👏 I’m doing inline skating as a workout for trail running , it’s great for making stronger tendons,ligaments , lower body and core muscles , but also getting better at balancing and mind reacting, because I mostly do technical trails in France. And it’s very beneficial as recovery workout after long trail running competitions, great to faster overcome muscle soreness 👍

Ive actually been hefting five pounders at night. Helps me burn energy and fall asleep. My main weight problem is raw carb intake (white rice). Oh, and low metabolism but thats not much of an excuse.

I should note, for any skaters who will suddenly try this after reading my comment that I started on two pounders and that was plenty when I got used to it. Always wear full padding when skating with weights they will do funky (and fun) things to your balance.

Without any intention to offend, this might be the best video you've made. How do you feel about rockering wheels? Does it affect much what muscles are working? I'm currently about to swap from a flat setup to 80 80 76 76, and I use the skates for a good range of general purposes. Thanks!

More stabilization. A low cuff (or with loose cuff) skate does require that as well.

Hey man isnt it true that all of this only applies when you have good posture and form on your skates? Maybe explaining the posture would make for a good video :)) especially for me
@BillStoppard
@BillStoppard 9 лет назад
Yes, this is pertaining to proper form, though skating poorly is still intense, though it's ill advised. I've touched on 'proper posture' previously but not dedicated an entire vid to the subject; great idea Max Wagner.

Hey Bill, I haven't been skating for about 6 years and now I got into it again thanks to you. My problem is that I think I'll have a lot of problems with enlarging the area I skate in. The traffic in my borough has a speed limit of 30 km/h (roughly 20 mph) and there are rarely cars on the street. Leaving my borough, theres a gap of three meters grass between the street and the sidewalk which is a big problem (in my country skaters count as pedestrians so we can't use bike lanes or the street). The sidewalks are simply not made for skating. Another problem is that I'm not sure if my breaking skills are good enough.
