Amazing fruit set so far Jeff, some of those varieties are incredibly precocious. I've been delighted to see a few flowers this Spring on my Bacon but it will be a few years before I might see fruit set IF I can keep them alive 🤞
How awesome Jeff! Your multi-grafted is kicking A##! My in ground Mexicola Grande is also having it's best spring so far....for reference, this is my third bloom season on a 14-18 foot tree in ground that was already planted when we bought this house in El Dorado Hills. My first season had maybe 50-100 fruitlets and they all dropped off. (9B zone also). My second season had less fruit (cold and wet winter/spring of 2023)...I had maybe 50 fruitlets but only 3 survived. This year I have hundreds of fruitlets.....I have been watering, fertilizing, mulching and pruning in the last year base on knowledge learned. Fingers crossed on harvesting a bigger crop this year! Thank-you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge with us newbie's!
I am in the same boat as you in 9B in Folsom right at the border of EDH. I also have a Mexicola Grande tree which is about 5 ft tall which I put in the ground couple years ago. Last year(2023) it bloomed heavily all around and dropped all the flowers and fruits (very few) it set; the leaves turned light yellow for some reason and stayed that way the whole year. This year it started blooms again and I used Espoma Organics Citrus & Avocado fertilizer and within a week or so I noticed more than 50% of the flowers set fruit. The tree is doing well and leaves are still green which seems like a good sign....fingers crossed!!!🤞
Love your videos. Very helpful. I do hope you get a lot of fruits. I too hope my tree gets a lot fruit. Seems like everyday there’s a lot of them on the ground.
Hi Jeff, this is Neal from Anaheim about 4 miles from Disneyland. That Big Black has so much set on it I'm amazed. Wow. You talked about culling some of the fruit at some point if you think it is still too much for the tree. I suspect that the more you cull MIGHT assist with LESS alternate-bearing next year. You would have to take great gardening notes to see if that is true. Regarding that Giant Avocado - did you stump a previous avocado tree, then let branches grow out, and then graft scions of the Giant Avocado onto the branches? Thanks for the update.
@@TropicalGardenGuy Are you still grafting monster in 5 gallon pots ? My 6 foot tall big black did not do flowers this spring is that normal do you think it's too young been in ground about 2 years .
New to channel and avocado trees. I am 30 minutes from you. I got one last year from Costco and it is still in the pot. Should I keep it in full sun with our upcoming summer or should I have it in partial half day sun?... Also, what is the one product that I should buy to put in the soil and what month to do it?
Hey Jeff, new to your channel. Im about 1 north east from your location. I have a hass avocado tree that i got last year. Last year ot set a bunch of fruit but then it would drop it, this year so far it seems to be doing the same. Any recommendations??
