We're planning to spend time throughout 2023 following members of Empire Elite as they chase their goals of qualifying for the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships and World Athletics Championships.
In this first episode, we get to know Eric Holt. He is a runner who has come a long way from working the overnight shift at a psychiatric hospital in New York. Holt, a former high school runner and state title winner, went to Binghamton University and ran with a PR of 4:02 in the mile. Holt was not pursued by pro groups after graduation, but he continued to train and was eventually noticed by Tom Nohilly and John Trautmann, coaches of Empire Elite Track Club, who saw his name on Strava. Holt has since quit his job at the hospital to focus on training and went on to represent the United States last summer and won gold at the NACAC Championships.
This is his journey to qualify for the 2023 Millrose Games.
