Come with us as we walk from Bodmin Parkway Railway station to Lanhydrock House, the most exquisite example of a victorian stately home. Rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1881 to include the latest modern conveniences including a magnificent kitchen, designed to feed, not only the family and guests but a bevy of servants, with bakehouse, dairy and pastry room! In complete contrast, see the luxury of the lord and lady's suites. Escaping the fire and dating from the 1600s, the most stunning room is the long gallery with an impressive plaster ceiling, hundreds of years old, telling the story of the Creation.

All I was told from my Nan was that our ancestors use to live in Lanhydrock Manor & she’d show me pictures and books about it al the time. Which makes sense seeing as we have the same surname as the past people. Very Interesting seeing it all. :)

Thank you for a great tour! I've not yet made it to Cornwall, I live in Wisconsin, US. I have relatives who resided at Lanhydrock Manor and are buried there.

Wow, thank you Andrew & Sarah, we visited Lanhydrock for the first time this year (25thAug) and it certainly is 'the jewel in Cornwall's crown' I said the same, it's somewhere I would definitely be recommending to others. My daughter played the piano in the long gallery too ( she was so excited to get to play in such an amazing setting) and the gardens as you said were stunning. The icing on the cake for us was a little robin singing to us in the gardens, it's something I will never forget. I'm so pleased that you shared this with us, it has helped cheer me up after the back to reality which always appears when we return home. So thank you once again 👌🏼😁xxx

Nice to see you still got some sun, I wondered when it had gone. 1880, now that is an old book and nice to have something like that from your grandfather. The house and gardens looked great and I loved the old gatehouse. It was nice that you were allowed to film inside the house, so many we visit will not allow any photography at all. The thought of all them spit roasted meats yum! I always love enjoy the sound of church bells, really added to the day out Real interesting watch, we both enjoyed it, cheers Alan

This was filmed a while a go. TBH, we have note filmed during the school summer holidays - too busy to get anywhere and a bit intimidating, I would get stage fright, if you get what I mean!! Sarah

Oh I loved this! We love to tour estates such as this. In America, the Biltmore in north carolina, viscaya in Miami fla, the Flagler in w palm Beach and many( Meadowbrook mansion and the Edsel Ford estate) in Michigan are a few of my favorites. Thank you so much. This was great fun.

Oh my Heavens Sarah and Andrew ,AMAZING 😁 I will take the copper cookware,please!! Lol, the tour was set up brilliantly,especially liked how descriptions were given on the wood areas or on plates. The quantities of meat that were cooked on the rotisserie must have been massive,no vegetarians in that household I bet ,lol . The plaster work on the ceilings was just gorgeous and that garden area was just exquisite to say the least!! Was that chocolate cake at the end Sarah?? Save a piece for me ,lol. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart , you two are a gem !! Hope you have a great weekend,I may take the children to the county fair this weekend (just an excuse for me to get a candied apple😉)depends on the weather, supposed to have loads of rain,I am not complaining,I love rain, hopefully something fun for your weekend as well!! Lots of happiness,Lori

Hi Lori, so glad you watched and enjoyed our visit to Lanhydrock. We had a wonderful day out and love visiting, try to go every few years. We have had good settled weather, and we have been clearing the garden before winter, trimming hedges, cleaning furniture and general pruning! I will be continuing tomorrow, washing down the paving slabs and the walls where hanging baskets were. The leaves will be falling soon - I love walks in the woods in autumn!! Sarah :)
@Christophers-Assorted-Stuff

You are certainly right, it is a fantastic place to visit. All the old technology on show, the vast amount of staff needed to run the kitchen - not just to make the dinner but to make the bread and butter from scratch and all the other things we can just buy in the shops nowadays. Just one of those copper pots would cost a weeks wages today, and how much would the lead lined sink cost? Just how wealthy the owner must have been. Now it takes the National Trust to be just as wealthy to keep the place in immaculate condition.
@CornishWalkingTrails
@CornishWalkingTrails 5 лет назад
The Trust keeps it beautifully, collecting the perfect items to convey the period! I often wonder how long these old houses will last with all of us traipsing around, I'm sure they were designed for that! Sarah :)

what a cute idea to give the info about each place on a piece of wood or on a plate :) I like the house, it does not remind me of Harry Potter, though, more about Jane Austen period pieces
