As a Sunni Muslim I love the Jewish people. We are all the children of god I wish peace upon all of the world 😘 Including you the person reading this comment LOVE FROM IRAQI KURDISTAN
I love how Shloime explains and answered your questions. I particularly like when he describes the Hasidic sect as more stringent in their practice of Judaism. Can’t wait to visit the neighborhood.
I'll say the same as I said by Peter's videos, even though I'm jewish and live with this every day, these videos are still so interesting and entertaining, because you hear and see your community from someome who is not a insider, amd has a different point of view. Awesome job guys, can't wait for more.
Jon, I want to thank you so much for this video. It is close to my heart, I grew up here. Even lived here after moving out. 1958-1987. Great neighborhood. The demographics have changed since I moved. Used to be half orthodox/Chassidic and half Italian with a smattering of other cultures thrown in. Being a reform Jew, I associated more with the Italians and most of my friends were. Now over 30 years later I really appreciate the uniqueness of this neighborhood. You can walk the streets any time of day and feel safe .I also . have a better understanding of who I am and have a deep appreciation for the people of Boro Park Look forward to part 2. Peace
Zechariah 12:10 Mourning for the One They Pierced 10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
How I learned about kosher pizza and kosher food is my older sister ( much older like 3 years younger than my mom ) had converted to Judaism and took me into a kosher pizzeria as a kid and I asked for a pepperoni pizza and she said they don’t have that here and I’m like what kind of pizzeria doesn’t sell pepperoni pizza.
Thank you for your spotlighting a unique community in New York City. I’m not Hasidic, but know so little about this community other then what I see in the media.
hi :) talking about jewish rap...there is actually a super cool jewish rapper who happens to be hassidic his name is Nissim black. he is an amazing guy you should definitely think of interviewing him! only one problem he lives in Israel but im sure you can zoom him or meet him when he comes to new york. thankyou for the amazing video!
Would love to visit Boro Park one day when I'm in New York / the US. Am always hearing about it, Eichlers especially, on Jewbook about its wealth of Judaica. It's certainly of interest to me as someone converting Orthodox. Would love to try Mendelsohn's pizza too!
Interesting that you guys got together. The guy who cuts our hair is from Russia (actually, his parents) and his wife if from Columbia. Their little girl is already stunning.
Interesting video! I really enjoyed learning about a different people and community. Excellent questions and answers. Continue to shed light on these unique neighborhoods in NY.
I’m a Muslim from Malaysia and I’m not really religious so whenever I travel to non-muslim country i do not strictly observe halal since I want to sample the local cuisines. The last time I went to NYC I was comfortable at eating at Jewish joints since kosher is much stricter than halal. After that experience i can say that i love Jewish food. I am planning to go again to NYC to eat at other boroughs 😋
Diana Yusof, please check this out with your Alim/Moulana, as we cannot make rules as we go along.... all such circumstances are covered in our Ouran * Hadith.... just an advice when you travel or at home you are a Muslim... when u travel is the real test... don't leave ur believe system at and international boarders to puck up on ur return.
Very interesting! I saw the whole other youtuber's series and I loved to get to know this fantastic culture. Looking forward for more from your perspective. Thanks, Jon!
Really looking forward to part 2. Thank you for continuing cresting great content. We have done multiple of your neighborhood “tours” and they are great
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Shloime is so friendly and explained a lot of Hasidic Jewish culture. Cameraman was funny eating the pizza lol! Very touching story of the street your parent's, grandma and older brother lived on when they migrated to NYC. Is your brother that much older than you, Lol!! And I would enjoy going into Eichler too look around. Thanks for showing this video 😁👍🏽
Definitely interesting seeing a guide on Borough Park. I've noticed that Hasidic Jews here in NYC are more traditional and reserved in their values. I'm aware that here and Williamsburg carry the largest Hasidic communities in the country, and I think it's interesting a video has been made here. I might go down to Boro Park to buy a yamaka from Eichler's before Passover starts this year. Can't wait to see Part 2
The ones in South Williamsburg are Satmar Hassidim (actually now divided into two sects) are are probably the most closed to outsiders - which include other Jews who are secular or even "modern orthodox:. They also have a large presence in Rockland County. They particularly dislike anyone who drives through their areas on the Sabbath and on important Jewish Holidays, and people who are not very modestly dressed. Just don't expect them to be as welcoming as the ones in Crown Heights (Lubavitch, which are the most welcoming in my opinion) or the many communities in Boro Park.
I used to date a woman from Boro Park in the 70's and enjoyed visiting the neighborhood very much. It was very different from where I was brought up. Loved visiting the bakeries and eating the unique sweets. Thank you.
Zechariah 12:10 Mourning for the One They Pierced 10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him,and by his wounds we are healed.
While Hasidic people have, for the most part, successfully assimilated into NYC culture, they have chosen to be far more aggressive when moving into the northern suburban New York counties that I and my wife grew up in...There have been constant battles within communities in Rockland, where I hail from, and Orange, where my wife is from, and the balance between the Hasidim and more secular Jewish communities in those counties, and the other demographic groups in these counties have, sadly, been far shakier than in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan...this provided me with an alternative perspective on members of this community other than what I’ve heard from old friends that are still living back in our hometowns, so thank you for that, Jon.
As a black man born and raised around the Hasidic community I never had a problem with them no kind of interactions but he said something that I experienced most of my life with them and that’s the staring like why the satring this is by a diverse city yes I understand there’s bad apples but there’s ripe ones too and I’m one of the many so if you see me say hi I will say it back oh and I say oy vey when I get frustrated lol
I am sorry you had to deal with that. At least in North America there is this weird idea that Jews never seen POC people within their communities or near them. It's a very racist way of thinking, and many POC Jews face a lot of discrimination in the US at least. I am obv not trying to speak for them but I have definitely seen it with my own two eyes. I remember a family that was POC got judged so badly within the Jewish community I was raised in because of their skin color. (I am glad I left it) The funny thing is, there is a huge amount of African Jews, to Ethiopia, to Morocco and other regions in Northern Africa. They make a good percentage of Israel too which is insane to think that Jews got a problem with them, (Big racism issue in Israel too which is very sad) when they are just the same as us.
I know, bro, I'm an Orthodox Jew from LA and when I was staying with some Hasidic friends in Boro Park people stared at me too. I think cuz I was wearing mismatched earrings and docs. I went on a tirade after to my friends and they were like girl, they stare at everyone in this neighborhood even other Hasidic jews," so dont take it personally friend, tho I get it, its uncomfortable.
Thank you! Interesting and fun video. That pizza made me really hungry. What are the main sects of Hasidim in Borough Park? I've visited Williamsberg where there are many of the Satmar group and Crown Heights where there are many Lubavitch/Chabad Hasidim.
Modern Orthodox Jew here. Not all of us are ok with the fact so many in our community are running around without masks. Please dont take people like that as representative of all of us!
Kosher pizza is legit. It reminds me of pizza from th 90s... very few places in nyc that still do pizza that way... with that consistency. I've been to pizza time on Ave J & East 13th street and there's another one on Ave M and East 15th street...one on ave J really good... one on Ave M still very good but Pizza Time just hits different.
