@pulsswow

T34s were garbage, but only 'few' people know that. It wasnt anything special, they just had alot of them. Even the gun they later had on T-34-85, the 85mm one, was much weaker than 75mm Panther, Pz IVc Stug etc had.
@pulsswow
@pulsswow 9 лет назад
Adrik Bogdanov What ?
@Metalli92
@Metalli92 9 лет назад
Pulssqt It actually was quite special, for example, sloped armor pretty revolutionary and something that the germans copied for their Panther. (Strangely enough they didint add slopes for tiger, but I assume that is for logistic reasons mainly.) What you're overlooking aswell is the cost to manufacture, if you can have 5 T34's at the cost of 1 tiger (numbers are made up here, but the direction of the assumption should be about right), you'll swarm the tigers weak sides with those t34's before the tiger has a chance to destroy them all, making the t34 a winner. M6A1 for example, was never mass produced because it was about the cost of two shermans, which the americans thought would be much more effective in battle than the single M6A1. In short, Quantity will beat quality here. In strictly 1v1 sense the German tanks would be superior, but in real war scenario it comes down to alot more than just that. Also t34's, having the home field advantage, were actually build to fight in snowy/icy battlefields, where-as the german tanks were built for mainly german soil (In hindsight that was quite silly, they should have known where they are sending thise tanks.. One might speculate this was because the german army had the idea of USSR being a poor backwater country that would be crushed before the winter set in. Much like how Napoleon lost his men against The Bear.) All-in-all considering more than just 1v1 basis, T34 was a great tank for anyone but the crew inside it.
@pulsswow
@pulsswow 9 лет назад
Victor Sund Man, did you know about turret problem T34's had untill they introduced T34-85 with 3 man turret ? Did you know that most of T34's never saw combat because they broke down because they were excremley unreliable, and those who saw combat never came back to base. lol Yes, quanitiy was the only advantage of T34.

BMW and Mercedes built engines. Porsche built vehicles (including tanks, competing with some other company) and engines, however their tanks were often too complicated and unreliable. However Ferdinand Porsche did have some components that were completely ahead of his time like the electric transmission. MAN designed ships I think, including submarinez

I didn't realize they had a Mine laying option in there (Minenabwurfschaft) easter egg?
@Bird_Dog00
@Bird_Dog00 7 лет назад
I know it's ben a year, but I will answer anyway. It's not for laying mines in the conventional sense. They used S-Minen (bouncing bettys) for defence against infantry swarming the tank. Essentialy, they stuff a S-Mine into that shaft and fire it. It would jump out, detonate after about 1.5 meters and shower the tank and it's suroundings with shrapnell. The tank itself would not be harmed by that, any infantry man in the vicinity however...
@oBseSsIoNPC
@oBseSsIoNPC 7 лет назад
Bird_Dog Ah yeah, that makes sense, I have seen replicas of those mines and they do some nasty damage. Thanks for taking your time to clear this up!
@daveybyrden3936
@daveybyrden3936 2 года назад
Tigers built up to the middle of 1943 had launcher tubes for S-mines. They were at the corners of the hull; the tubes on the turret have nothing to do with this. The commander would launch these mines individually using a hand-held controller. The controller box was on a cable attached to the firewall. There was a clip on the firewall to hold the controller, and that label "Minenabwurfschaft" identifies it. But we have two problems; 1. Tiger 131 is missing the S-mine system and probably never had it fully installed. 2. The restorers have put that "Minenabwurfschaft" label out of place.

So the vision port is actually a direct opening, rather than a periscope from two 45 degree prisms going to the deck above him? Doesn't that mean you the driver is kind of vulnerable, even allowing for a certain degree of protection against small arms etc a main round that might not penetrate the front could surely kill him if it hit the vision block? Great video though, to see how much work it takes to drive ( even if it's considered easy in comparison to other tanks of the day )
@0nkelD0kt0r
@0nkelD0kt0r 8 лет назад
That kind of shows the age of the Tigers design. It was not uncommon at that time. T-34 also has direct vision ports, so did the Churchill and the Cromwell. Later Panther models where (I think) the first german tank to have no direct vision ports.
@Haneix1
@Haneix1 6 лет назад
The chances of hitting the vision slit are slim to none, and if you have your tiger in distance of infantry able to accurately shoot at the tank, you have already goofed up.
@daveybyrden3936
@daveybyrden3936 2 года назад
Yes, the driver is vulnerable. A rotating periscope was used in later Panzer designs. But it wasn't retrofitted to the Tiger 1, not even newly built Tiger 1, and that's probably because the tank designers were overstretched.

The master power switch looks exactly like the one you could find in Wolkswagen Transporters, these things: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_2

Good to see the face of the bloke operating the clutch so badly! I have to say, he fully matches my preconceptions about him watching movies of Tiger 131 moving. I hope, one day the Tiger pays him back the bad treatment by some decent head banging.

He's one of about 4 people alive that's driven a Tiger. I don't think any armchair expert can do better than him.

Now we know why America so smart. Much of our stuff based on German engineering from days (wars) gone by, including pretty much everything we have (and sell) today. So, thank you all to Germany, for your unappreciated, and original, engenuity. So take a bow Von Braun, Krupp, VW, Porsche, Mercedes, Bayer, and etal. We love you guys, really. Our stock market thinks so, too.

Some people don't know we took a lot of German scientists in after the war, in Operation Paperclip. IIRC some V1/V2 rocket engineers even worked at NASA to help put man on the moon.

Great video :) And may I ask you a question? Don't you know if there's any real JagdTiger from WorldWar II or are they all destroyed? Thanks :)

Why was there a radioactive sign on one of the pressure "clocks"? Sorry for the wrong words! 😅

+Alpha Chinoz (Alphachinoz) Apparently it was painted with radium paint so it would glow in the dark.
